Actually for marathoners I highly recommend breaking ur long run up to doing 15 miles in the morning and then 6 to 8 in the afternoon. You get less beat up and actually run the last part of the run faster because you aren’t beat down.

Agree with this approach 100%. Challenge for me and other AGs is that this reduces recovery time in between sessions since we gotta pay the bills during normal hours.

@@benbos1925 i would say first session started off around LT1 and was up towards LT2. Second session would have been around LT2 and then a little above for the last set. Last rep was a bit of a mess around really.

Though it does sound logical with no long runs for triathlons, and hopefully it works I’m super curious - the Norwegians coach found that the marathon in full distance triathlon was the most unpredictable to estimate from training and his hypothesis was that it was because of (simplified) not covering marathon distances in training - source Olav Aleksander Bu on Rich Roll podcast
@joeskipper9110 ай бұрын
I’ve played around with longer runs in the past (over 2 hours) found it didn’t benefit my running and took it more out of the other sports. The thing with triathlon training is the marathon is totally different than training for a marathon without the other sports. The problem is many people copy everyone else and are worried to think outside the box. I first experimented with long runs under 90 minutes before taking this approach and my running in an ironman improved, This is an evolution of that.
@jacobsaunders8110 ай бұрын
You can also do double threshold training and hit a couple longer sessions in the weeks leading up to a race. So maybe a 30-35km run 2-3 times before April instead of people doing it every single week.
@tobias358110 ай бұрын
@@joeskipper91 it makes sense as you laid it out, will be a method to copy if successful
@joeskipper9110 ай бұрын
@@jacobsaunders81 I think in the last 6 years I’ve only run over 30km in training maybe 2-3 times so definitely won’t be adding in any of that duration.

Where is the lactate meters??
@joeskipper9110 ай бұрын
I don’t think I need one, I’ve used them in the past and they didn’t really add anything. I’ve been doing it for 20 years now and have a great idea of where my threshold is from using perceived effort, heart rate and pace.
@benbos192510 ай бұрын
What % og max hr would you say TH is for you. If I am doing it right :-) For me its about 90% 152bpm ( max is 168bpm rest 40bpm ) age 46yo

Theres good evidence based on training at target race paces makes you more efficient. I think to assume a double threshold day will yield better results isn’t to far fetched. I’ve always coached myself and to be fair think I’ve done a pretty good job.

@joeskipper9110 ай бұрын
I don’t think so. The mental aspect of the marathon is a strength of mine. If you look at my previous results you will see that. I think these double threshold days will yield better results and runs off the bike.
