None of the existing single handers have that destructive backhand Thiem unloads! In this match he subdues Djoker with the bazooka routinely and Djoker has one of the best double hander in the business!

Probably because he's not one of Djokovic's biggest rivals. If Nadal or Federer beat him then you'll see some toxicity. When Alcaraz beats him they get quite toxic, since he's now Djokovic's main rival, even though he's a nice guy also.

It did but expecialy because he is using his whole power in those backhands he got injured, and he will have more problems in future with that hand, he just have some sort of unusual style and using his whole energy in one shot, too powerful, but it will cost him earlier than you think

2022 tennis season is gonna be potentially one of if not the most interesting tennis seasons ever, the big three tied up at 20 slams, Roger and Nadal back, Djokovic playing after a near calendar slam season, thiem back, the "next gen" getting a slam and looking to grab more and shift momentum towards them and away from the big three, etc. It's gonna be interesting to watch fs

Never seen Nadal play with such consistent power off both wings, and especially on a hard court. Probably only Wawrinka on his best day comes close to replicating such power

What I liked about thiem was he had equal amount of power in his backhand like a strong forehand with too much artistry, I mean after federer, i saw a player of that quality who tinkers with art. Tennis is sometimes brutal, hope to see him back again in that level. Diffetence between alcaraz and him is, he is eye pleasant to watch

Problem with Thiem was (and probably still is) that he plays a bit unconsistently. Against the big 3 he always seems special motivated and on top of his game, but against players ranked around 50-100 or below, he quickly loses focus and then also the matches. And 2021 wasn't his year for sure. Wasn't his best Australian Open and after that his confidence was gone. The injury was just the icing on the cake for that plagued year from his view point

@@romel.banerjee9 I kind of think Zverev, Medvedev and Thiem are in a way shadows of BIG 3. Zverev is a talent that play highly aggressive tennis and makes the match about him like Roger. Thiem plays a lot of spin and great claycourter like Rafa. Medvedev plays efficient, not really good looking or showy BUT effective, tennis with brains to back it up like Nole.

He had the US Open wrapped up and ready for him and he completely fell apart. He should have won the Calendar Slam but instead he was reduced to tears. Don't call him the goat of he chokes! And while I'm on here, relish your French Open victory. That trophy will be held, once again and for the 14th time, by Nadal! There will be a reckoning.

Amazing display by Thiem here... Its very very difficult to take the match from Novak if he is up 4-1 in the tie-break... But Dominic has some brutal hitting skills.... Novak looked a bit slow here though.. Perhaps was not feeling his best. But may be it was Dominic's skills which made him look slow... The game needs this guy... An amazing talent to watch.

Novak with the biomechanical effectiveness of his movement, against Thiem who seemed to be putting too much weight on his hands. Today novak is still physically strong and mostly injury free, while thiem has a serious injury that has ruined his career.

At 3:45 Novak elects to take a low ball and topspin it heavily to ensure it goes in .. thus slowing down the ball and making it high to Dominic to whale away at it -- VS -- slicing it deep and keeping low to force him to hit up .. Which is something we seem commonly now .. the result is predictable.

AFAIK he has recovered from his hand-injury and is currently preparing for the upcoming season. Last thing I heard was that he went to Spain for training session, though this was during the Vienna tournament. He will participate in the Dubai invitationals AFAIK to prepare for the Australian Open, same as Rafa does. Lets hope that he doesn't have a similar year to 2021 again and can return to his level he had the year before
