GMT bezel on a 3 hander actually makes tons of sense. Track two timezones. How many people honestly need more than that? Probably as many people that dive with dive watches.

As per Jody recommendation I purchased a Seiko 5 for a daily wear beater from Jomashop. It had a 6 hour power reserve straight out the box that didn't improve. Called them,they gave a shipping # ,sent it back and less than three weeks later got it back. Time grahed,flat I'm sure,minus three plus ten. Been flawless since. They definitely stood behind their warranty.

I bought both my Orients from Jomashop, a defender 2 automatic and a pilot style automatic, both reliable. Never tested it for accuracy. With 40 plus watches it gets a lot of rotation.

Mathey Tissot seems ok for the price, it may not be SW200 but still a Swiss Made ETA2824 clone. Do agree the 24hr bezel insert is puzzling but just choose the model with a correct bezel insert will solve the problem.

I got a Mathey Tissot Datejust homage, from Jomashop by the way, and it was completely horrible. I really tried to connect with it, but didn't, so it was quickly sold.

7:15 Slight nit-pick here, but IIRC, decoration isn't necessarily linked to the grade on Sellita movements. Grade first and foremost describes the level of accuracy a movement can be expected to deliver - how many positions it was regulated in and/or upgrades to materials used for certain components (like the alloy used for the balance wheel). They do offer separate options for decoration (like blued screws, Geneva stripes, etc). Plus customers can get individual levels of finishing for their movements (like a branded rotor, etc). For example: Steinhart do at least elaboré grade, but not all of their SW200/330 movements will have extensive decoration. Their GMT SW330s for example will look rather plain in their models with a solid case-back - but will sport quite a bit of decoration in some that have a see-through back. They're still both elaboré grade equivalent - which is base-level in the case of the 330, because, IIRC, it has only three grades instead of four with elaboré being the lowest. It doesn't help that some watch-brands might call an increased level of finishing by a name that might sound like it refers to the grade of the movement ("Top finishing" or something like that). All that said: I think it's rather revealing (and not too surprising) that a watch like that Matthey Tissot would come with such exaggerated decoration on the movement - and of course with a transparent case-back. Just like with the overly elaborated box/packaging, this seems to be meant to distract from the fact that underneath the veneer, the watch is a bit of a turd.

Not trying to defend the Matthey-Tissot but you can track a second time zone with a 24-hour bezel. Just set the bezel so the hour hand points to the hour in the second time zone. (Most GMTs can track three time zones - as long as they have a rotating 24-hour bezel, that is.) Works as long as the difference between time zones is one hour. Doesn't if you have half an hour difference like in Australia...

He also caught one with an apparent shitty rotating bezel whereas mine does turn very smoothly. Polishing is very top, my only complaint of that watch is truly the crown, that is like one epic fail.

I think you're overly harsh on the Mathey-Tissot Jodi. Nicely decorated Swiss movement for $299 seems a good deal to me. Plus so long as the GMT bezel rotates, as this one does, you can use the GMT function by setting to the hour hand. If you really don't want this 'turkey' feel free to send me an offer for it😀

Fun fact: Robert De Niro receives a golden Mathey-Tissot from Jimmy Hoffa in "Irishman" film. If anyone didn't know it yet, the company doesn't have anything to do with Tissot, it was established about 33 years later (as you can see on the watch in the video; Tissot was established in 1853). Also Tissot has its headquarters in Geneve, Mathey-Tissot in Canton of Neuchâtel. And M-T doesn't really specialize in mechanical watches; as far as I know they make mostly quartz watches these days. I'm not a big fan of dress watches, but this Orient looks nice, and mostly it seems like a really good value for money.

Yeah, the Mathey-Tissot looks like tat, especially in that bright green with the mismatched fauxtina and shiny tinfoil looking bezel insert 😬 and the Orient early 2000s oversized. If they could shrink it to sub 40mm and knock a couple of mm off the thickness, it would make for a very nice affordable dress watch.

I have the Sun and Moon white dial. It was one of my very first watches. Orient has dropped the name Sun and Moon, it's no longer on the dial or on their website. Why? I don't get it. Yeah, it's a bit of a hockey puck, but actually wearing better than the numbers would suggest. It doesn't look ridiculously ungainly on my 6.5" wrist as some other watches that size do. No, it's not exactly graceful and elegant, but it is fun.

I own a Sun and Moon v4 and I can honestly say that the watch head thickness completely defeats the rest of the watch...I did wear it for certain occasions, but a true dress watch cannot be that thick.

It's a little bit of a paradox, isn't it? By both design and complications, it's unquestionably meant to be a dress watch. But its dimensions just don't lend itself to being worn underneath a dress shirt (it'd barely fit under a sport coat.)

Mathey Tissot is some sort of mushroom brand,for sure it isnt made in Switzerland.Also Landeron isnt made there for sure too,just look where its headquarters lay-between a McDonalds and a Jumbo grocery store,lol.The owner also wasnt reliable much when asked on FB about the origin of the movement couple years ago.Anyway,Im surprised that Marvin from Hemel decided to cooperate with M.Tissot couple months ago,its like downgrading his brand😜

Talking about the Orient, if the diameter is smaller, the ratio to the thickness is going to be more square than rectangular, I think the constraint is the thickness due to complication and decoration.

It’s for reading the time in another time zone, rotate the top marker to current hour and read current time in another zone by knowing if it’s +5 hours, etc. one of my favorite Sinn’s has the same. Good for tracking time for next medication 😂

7 1/2 inch wrist and I’ve owned this one for more than a year now. I lean towards smaller watches now, but I find this one very manageable, considering all those complications.. keep in mind the very high-end expensive luxury watches from Protec/JLC/ALS ect. Wow, the Mathey Tissot must be one of the worst buys possible, horrible bezel action, not the advertised movement, the font on the dial and the bezel looks bad and inconsistent (I don't think such a handwritten type font can ever look good on a diver or tool-y watch) and maybe the worst for me is the color combination, faux patina combined with grass green. The green looks so cheap. I don't know if there is anyone liking these colors, maybe someone who has plastic flamingos on their lawn. The orient on the other hand is nice, the only things I don't like are the screws on the dial (I don't like any screws on the front, not on the dial and not on the bezel), the 21 mm lug width and maybe the fact that the window of the see through caseback is so small respectively the movement itself is so small compared to the 42 mm. I wonder if it was adesign decision rather than the complications needing that much space, 40 mm would really have been nicer. Btw. how is the strap on the Orient, I don't think you mentioned if it is comfortable or not?
