This is a very good 1987 game show and Jamie Farr was great hosting it!!

Game show host may be the part Jamie Farr was born to play. He's witty and amusing, he can stretch a show out if he needs to, and he seems to genuinely be rooting for the players to win.

This was the pilot that was mentioned when Farr was a player on Scrabble’s first game show hosts week in late 1987

With so many uploads now, I hope we get the Winfall pilot soon. That clip we have looked fascinating, as if Peggle were a game show.

At first I thought this must be a Bob Stewart production, but I see Dick Clark was the executive producer. It still makes sense. Bob's biggest hit by far, hosted by Dick, settled on the two games a day, with an end game after each, so you don't have straddling. He used it again on "Double Talk". Dick must have learned the same lesson.

Funny thing: I'd never heard of this show. I didn't know (or remember) that Jamie Farr had ever hosted a game show. But I kept looking at the set, the fashions, the lights, and listening to the music trying to guess when the show was made. About halfway through, I thought "It's got to be late '80s or may 1990. I'll guess 1987." Then I checked the credits. I guess I watch a lot of other game shows! 😁

Wow! Never expected it to be produced by Dick Clarke. I thought the format screamed Bob Stewart. No matter. It was an enjoyable format.

TBH it's strange that Jamie Farr was a part of Scrabble game show host week and they present him as the host of this, but Double Up was never picked up. And also that audience game with lottery tickets (strange system with numbers corresponded to numbers of the bonus round timer)

I'm excited to see this pilot for quite sometime. Jamie Farr was awesome on M*A*S*H and on MadTV skit once. Hard to believe he is 90 now. He is the same age as my dad when he passed. I loved M*A*S*H. Too bad he didn't get a blazer for hosting game shows but he certainly gave it all he had. There will never ever be another Jamie Farr like him.

The only show he did that actually made it to air was when he sub-hosted "Wordplay" for Tom Kennedy for three episodes. He also did one other pilot called "Oddball" for Mark Goodson.

It's nice to see any version of this mythical show. Do you happen to have the celebrity pilot with Dick Clark playing the game?

Thank you for posting, Wink and co.! I’ve been curious of this one too. I thought this was a more challenging and interesting format of the “initial” and “fill in the blank” concept for game shows. Like “Finish Line” but without the poems and rhyming. The Pressure Point questions were exceptionally smart. I enjoyed it.

I remember you posting the sizzle reel which said the show would have teams of a contestant and a celebrity, I guess they were mulling between both ideas and decided to go with the celebrity format had it gone to air.

That first blank, "animal," was much harder than any of the other five blanks in the first round. Disadvantage automatically for the challengers. And then, "dance" and "dancing" are not the same word, are they? Why was Rick given credit? Otherwise, the premise is nice and easy to follow. Anyone can play along at home.

i would like to know why did the producer of Scrabble pick Jamie Farr to compete in a game show host tournament, even though this show didn't get greenlit?
@wisp200724 күн бұрын
I think that brief stint of him filling in for Tom Kennedy on Wordplay the year before may have had something to do with it

This was the civilian pilot - as there was a celebrity format also done. Wouldn't matter - this show didn't sell. And this show could've really used Dick Clark hosting instead of producing - then maybe it would've sold, as syndicators likely didn't like Jamie Farr's work.
@MDCSWildcats8625 күн бұрын
Didn't Jamie Farr fill in for Tom Kennedy late in WORD PLAY's run?
@wschmrdr27 күн бұрын
Seeing the whole thing, this actually isn't a bad show; mostly had the unfortunate luck of coming when game shows were on the decline in the US. The bonus round could have used without the host reading the question and the contestants do that on their own; glad they allowed the shortcut of just giving the words on that second one. Wait, this was a Dick Clark show for FOX? I would have thought it was Reg Grundy given how hard it was pushed during the Scrabble celebrity shows....
