Part 2 of 3 of the PC Performance Boosting tutorial. Learn the secrets to get rid of unnecessary files, and stack it all together for faster read/write times - the equivalent of removing old paper from a filing cabinet and pushing it all up together.

Hey! The videos are great. I just have a question, if you turn off the total paging file size, do you need to restart it and then defragment. Or is restarting it only if you want it to stay like that for a long period time? Also, computers work much slower with dust inside. I took my two computers outside, and took the panels off and blew it out with a blower used for gardening. It sped it up, I don't think it damaged the components whatsoever, so you should include that tip when listing tips.

@FixThePC when defragmenting the pagefile, you can go to defraggler, go to settings, boot time defrag, and then select run once and restart.

Do a quick defrag then a normal one and then do one of the methods in the description again. Should go a bit faster if youre not finished yet^^

After repeating the process as you advise, it again turned the page file into fragmented files doubling the fragmented section and addin a new orange set for the pfile.After many many defrags those defragmented files will not leave. The page file is fine, but now i have 12% fragmentation (over 6gb) of my new windows 7 install onto RAID 0.

I remember using CCleaner on my mum's old Acer Aspire 3000 laptop. I removed over 5GB with Ccleaner. Didn't really make the laptop go any faster due to only having 256mb of RAM though...

@FixThePC 1. Im aware. After following your procedure i have 6gb of fragmented files that i cant get rid of. After defragging, turning of the page file, defragging and turning it back on, the original page file left its size in defragged files (red) and placed a new orange set for the switched back on page file. After repeating the process as you advise, it again turned the page file into fragmented files doubling the fragmented section and addin a new orange set for the pfile.

I thought so. It's a crappy $500 gateway computer and I've sent it in once before to fix the hard drive. It lags pretty bad now. Do you have any recommendations which I can build or purchase reasonable priced gaming computer? I hate lagging when I'm gaming.

Hey Buddy, excellent, very good Video, My computer has never been this clean. Question, I have one light Red sector, I can't figure out how to get rid of it ?????? What a difference this has nmade, How do you know all these intricate step's eg. page set ? I already had ccleaner but I wasn't using all the functions, Great Job, Thank You for your expertise !! ah i see. well i find Norton pretty much ok, but again im not much of a pc geek (wish i was) so i cant tell how resource intensive it really is. What does it use mostly? RAM? CPU? Ill consider those other anti-viruses when my subscription expires.

Im not sure i understand the page file part...do you only do the remove and put back of the page file if all the brown squares arnt in a line? All of mine are in the same line next to each other so do i have to do it?...Thanks sorry im not very good with computers as you can tell haha

ok maybe i will set it.but like you said, with 6GB of RAM, you said i dont really need it.need i do it? by the way, about Services and Startup services on msconfig, i have stopped few which im sure i do not need. Thing is there are LOTS which i have no idea what they do, so i just dont know if to remove them or not :( on idle my laptop uses 1.45GB of RAm more or less. i use Norton as antivirus. is this why so much is used in idle? despite that,it seems to run pretty good. (laptop is new, 1 week)

excuse me for possibly being a derp but when im using defraggler im checking it every now and then to see how much it's cleaned and it seems that as the amount of fragmented files lowers the amount of free space on my C: drive lowers too, just curious as to whether i should be worried or not

by the way, i have another problem which cropped up today. as you know, in windows Aero, when you hover the mouse over the name of an open application at the bottom, a mini window would appear at the bottom showing the page. and when you are not in Aero mode, only the name of the program open would appear instead of the mini window. however, now, none of those 2 work, so when i hover my mouse over the program open, nothing appears, both in Aero and in non-Aero mode. solutions?

So by storing files in this page file you are allowing toe RAM to be used for other programmes? My total paging file size for all drives is 5995MB. Is that ok? And my paging file size for all drives is automatically managed. Is that ok?

@FixThePC 3. All i have installed is windows, some drivers, TuneUp Utilities and Battlefield 3. I have used TuneUp to defrag for years and its set to auto every 3 days so i never have a fragmented system drive. Since following your guide i now have 6gb of fragmeted files i cant get rid of. TuneUp also will not loose them for me.

sorry but i didn't really understand your instructions. please give full detailed instructions. from "click this first" to what power mode i should be on at the start and which i should end up on at the end. i havr tried reset the Power Saver plan, to no avail!

After dergagging the page file as you recommend,it leaves the sections of the old page file in red (fragmented) and adds a new oange set when the page file is switched back on. After many defrags the fragmented files do not reduce. This is on a farily new install onto a raid 0 aay. Whats that all about as now i cant loose 5gb of fragmented files that werent there before the page file defrag pocedure of yours i followed.

FixThe Pc, i have an annoying problem which i hope you can solve!!! :( :( until today, when my laptop would be connected via the mains for power, my laptop would automatically switch to High Performance and Windows 7 Aero theme would be enabled. And when i would only the battery, it would automatically switch to Power Saver mode, and would switch to Windows 7 Basic (no Aero). But this morning, my laptop decided not to disable Windows Aero when switching to Power Saver. Any solutions?....

For SSD user. Do not use defrag if you are using SSD, if you do it will shorten the drive's life
