Love your channel, I'm actually a prize winner won a dti gauge. I was the one when you pulled two pieces of paper from the bucket and threw one back. 😊

2:30 It's at times like this that I am pleased that I converted my mini mill to CNC, complete with A axis. I can hexiferate rod* or cut gears while making dinner. (I posted this before I got to 8:15 - at my age I need to do things while I remember. I have got to the annoying stage of getting upstairs, forgetting why I have got there, going down and remembering before I get there, turniong back and . . . . I am looking forward to the days when I don't remember when I get down; then I wet myself - ah! the downside). It's at times like using the CNC mini mill to drill simple holes that I wish it weren't CNC - which is why I am adding MPGs where the crank handles used to be so I get the intuitive feel of the way it used to be. Within the next two years I might have got there, if I don't get into a custom box sooner. * When I did two years of metalwork at school in the early/mid '60s we were told thal rod was round, and bar was rectangular, yet these days I do not hear this difference used. Am I misremembering?

I have to admit you gave me a good laugh when you said you wouldn't put your fingers there, especially with the camera running. I think we have all been there.

Perhaps you could do a short video on how you used the calliper to calculate how much to remove from the sides. It is a useful function of zeroing the reading.

You measure the target size, zero the caliper and then measure the larger piece. That will give you the difference. Note, this is the total diameter to be removed. To find the radius to remove, simply divide by two, in this case the radius value is the amount John removed. I hope this helps.

@@robertoswalt319 I know - it's just that it would be a useful instructional video for a newbie.

15:30 "I'm very tempted to put my fingers in there ... [but not] while the camera is running" I assume that is so that we are not offended by any resulting mild curses ;-)

Hi John, thanks for another good video. This might be a silly question but, why is bronze used with steel - and not brass ?

I was thinking these were going to have a solder center for steam relief on boil-over, what are those ones called?
@doubleboost
@doubleboost 3 күн бұрын
That is a fusible plug filled with lead not solder . It is fitted above the fire box in to the boiler . If the water level drops and uncovers the plug the lead melts and puts out the fire .

@doubleboost thanks John, I watched that video, so remembered how interesting it was. Think they were for the Sentinal Steam Wagon.
