All other sitcoms do not hold a candle to the Golden Girls. Absolutely witty, charming, and hilarious. Four memorable characters. All the girls are funny in their own way, I cannot tell which one is my favorite! They were all amazing. It's a shame Betty White is the only one still alive of them, but at least we still have one. Doing it live is a huge accomplishment in itself... but especially for Estelle. Her dementia was affecting her even during the Golden Girls. She used to write her lines in some of the props and tables on set, and it would cause her a lot of anxiety. So for her to do this live with such an important audience... good for her! I wonder if that’s why they chose this scene because she didn’t have as many lines.

It's pretty ballsy for a sitcom cast to do this act in front of a "real", non-studio audience (one including the freaking top members of the Royal Family) where there's no cuts, no laugh track, no cues for laughs/claps/etc. But The Golden Girls and these 4 ladies could pull it off. This just goes to show the genius of the writing and acting on this show. Today, if you took a "sitcom" on the air and did this, it'd be a total flop.
@MsEliteForever8 жыл бұрын
Also it was different. Four older women. Just like the show Roseann show cased a overweight wife and husband trying to make ends meet. Both shows were great because it didn't have just young people, and great writers.

Allen M. Quinn Have you ever been to a sitcoms taping?! There is no "laugh track" and there most certainly is no "cue" for laughing or clapping. I've been to about 10 sitcoms taping and the laughter is all real. It really is like a theater performance except for the rare outtake, which is understandable given that they prepare a 20 minute show including precise blocking in 4 days. These women are amazing, but in fairness, the stars of any sitcom (that is taped before an audience) would be capable of performing a live skit in character in front of an audience

Easily one of my top 5 sitcoms of all time - and I'm a comedy snob. It holds up even 30+ years later because it was so unafraid to tackle any subject - Aids, abortion, abuse - hell, even the premise itself, women over 30 have sex????? ***GASP*** Brilliant show and great actors all.

How amazing to see these ladies perform live. They had amazing skills to perform on camera and on stage, but have consistency in their characters.

Well that was a trip back in time! The Neighbours cast, Russ Abbott and Bella Emberg, Paul Daniels and Debbie McGee . . . . . And of course the Golden Girls, at the peak of the show's fame, what a class act they were.

Singing for them: thank you for being a friend traveled down the road and back again, when your heart is true, you're a pal and a confident, if you threw a party invited everyone you knew, you would see the biggest gift it would be for me, and the card attached word say "thank you for being a friend"

I am so surprised that this particular “skit” was chosen to be preformed in front of the “Queen Mother!”I soooo loved the skit but even though the Queen Mother adored this series & wanted them there( she knows & loves their type of humor),in public the monarchy usually tries to maintain a certain air of “prim & proper.” There is seldom even a remote hint of anything risqué or any impropriety whatsoever surrounding the royal family. This skit show what a great sense of humor the Queen Mother & Monarchy has, asking the Golden Gurls to preform! This is a great performance by “THE GOLDEN GIRLS!” What a breath of fresh air their delicious sense of humor brought to everyone. Such an honor for these four extraordinary women to be asked to preform here! Loved this! A true “JOY” to watch both The Golden Girls & the Queen Mother!💕

sometimes it's wiser to use tested scenes than try something new on a live and world-wide televised audience. Remember Larry Grayson's last 'performance'?

This is incredible. I've been looking for this clip for years. I even got in touch with one of the show's producers, and he said he had no idea if any footage of this performance was even in existance. Thank you so much for posting this!!!

I never knew how popular this Series was in England? They seem to understand the dialogue very well. You know how the Britts feel about American Vernacular. I know that many American Shows do well in England, but if your a fan of the Britt-Coms you can only watch them on PBS. I have a good friend, her Fiancé is from England, he told me his Parents never missed the Carol Burnett Show, they loved it. But The Golden Girls must have been a favorite of the late Queen Mother in order for them to be invited to this event? God rest their hearts, they were an exceptional Cast.

It was a big hit in the UK shown on Channel 4 usually at 9pm on Friday nights iirc, so much so after it ended ITV bought the rights to make its own version The Brighton Belles. Sadly the series never took off and was cancelled after one season,
