I wonder if we'll ever have a generation of talent like we did with those in the 70s 80s and 90s sitcoms. Larry David is getting up there and I don't watch enough of current tv to know who's up and coming. If comedy is like today's pop music, it seems mediocrity is rewarded instead of being told to practice more or maybe better yet, find another endeavor. The everybody's a winner concept sounded good in theory and it had good intentions, but everybody doesn't deserve a prize. Sorry but that's how I believe.

Rue and Bea broke character laughing so hard during the great herring war story. In an interview Rue said she and Bea looked at each other and finally they couldn't contain themselves and just broke out in laughter. @Panwere365 жыл бұрын
Actually, Betty White (like the late Tim Conway of The Carol Burnett Show fame) came up with the stories on the fly most of the time. "The Great Herring War" is legendary, because it was the very first time and Bea and Rue were legit trying to mess her up mid story. A lot of respect happened in the mere minutes of filming that scene.
@nancyayers63554 жыл бұрын
Rue McClanahan was being interviewed and they asked her why she thought the show was so successful and she replied, "We had impeccable writers!" And so they did! Personally, I think it's the second most successful comedy sit-com ever, the first being, of course, "I Love Lucy!" I have a feeling that no TV sit-com will ever come along which can beat those two!!
@kathkwilts3 жыл бұрын
This was all ad libbed by Betty White herself...
@MeowthRocket4 жыл бұрын
That first story actually has behind-the-scenes history on it. The take they used was from the dress rehearsal. When they tried to film it again for the actual episode, they found that the genuine laughter from Betty, Bea, and Rue made it sink in that, despite their differences, they were good roommates for each other and decided to keep the original, guffaws and all. So Bea and Rue's hysterical shrieks of laughter.... that was all them.
