Very helpful information, as I'm about to purchase. Did they eventually in add the markers you mentioned were absent, or that you wished they'd included?
@djp_video4 жыл бұрын
Oxford Blue No, they haven’t added that feature.

Do they sell any sort of case or back case/stand to make these a bit more portable for field shoots?
@djp_video7 ай бұрын
There are racks with wheels. But I've never seen anything in a backpack format. A usable setup could get really heavy really quickly. This flypack is somewhere in the neighborhood of 50-60 lbs, and it still needs other equipment to make it work.

Thank you for the demonstration, Is there really no colors in the scopes, like especially the RGB parade? Thats a pitty.
@djp_video Жыл бұрын
Yep. No color. Just B&W.

Since it's been more than a year, and the Video Assist 4K is out, would you recommend that over there Duo 4K?
@djp_video6 жыл бұрын
The Video Assist is a much, much better monitor than the SmartView/SmartScope. In terms of scope capabilities, though the SmartScope Duo is still more useful. And it mounts in a rack, which is difficult to do with the VA4K.
@christopherdoyle80816 жыл бұрын
Since rack-mounting is important, especially in your case. Have you considered the Atomos Shogun Studio? I have read that the resolution is higher and it supports 6G-SDI as well as 12G-SDI.
@djp_video6 жыл бұрын
I did look at it before I bought the solutions I ended up with. Having a recorder in the monitors just isn't necessary for my workflow. And since I work out of a video production trailer now, having to rack mount my monitors would actually be a problem. But from what I hear the Shogun Studio is a good product.

If you were an avid hobbyist just starting out, working on passion projects, with the hope of going pro in a couple years, would you recommend the smart scopes, the video monitor mentioned above (that you could use on your camera as well), or a sub $2000 pseudo 10 bit (8+2) monitor for color correction and other video monitoring, like the Dell UP series or the LG Ultra Fine series? This is assuming you already have a primary monitor to work on, and a budget of less than $2k

hello thanks for sharing this stuff, would you like to know if you can monitor the preview instead of pgm?
@djp_video5 жыл бұрын
If your switcher has an SDI Preview output, you certainly could.
@lipe_lemes5 жыл бұрын
@@djp_video The system atém no longer exit preview, just Multiview .You quite like this scopes, histogram etc. tool, but why I know how the camera is behaving I need to put it "in the air" so for live productions is a mistake.
@djp_video5 жыл бұрын
Most ATEM models have at least one Aux output which can be set to Output the Preview.

No. It doesn't have that feature.

Hello Doug, Great video! I am building a new system around BMD Products mainly for IMAG and Training. To help keep delay down, I'm gen-locking the system. Do you have any videos/recommendations on the set-up of the BMD Sync Generator? Thank You! Matt
@djp_video5 жыл бұрын
Essentially all you need to do is set the video format on the generator, then connect its outputs to the Ref/Sync/Genlock input on your cameras and switcher. If you don't have enough outputs on the generator to cover all of your gear, you can use an old-school analog video distribution amplifier to split the sync signal.

Hi, Doug. I do smalltime projects mostly on DSLR, Cannon 60D and 77D in particular. Can I use Blackmagic Design SmartView Duo on my field work? Can I use it as an on-set monitor for shooting 5 minutes drama series? Thanks in advance.
@djp_video7 жыл бұрын
The SmartView monitors don't have HDMI inputs so you'd need HDMI-to-SDI converters for each camera, but other than that they'd work.

Hi DD, Hey can you please make a video about how to deal with delays? I mean, the whole lipsync issue for both recording-only event, and also when outputting live to a monitor in, let's say a conference hall. Thanks So much! Irshaad Mauritius
@djp_video8 жыл бұрын
I'll put some thought into that one. Bottom line, though, is that you make sure to select device with the minimum amount of delay, and shoot at the highest frame rate you can.

but can use monitor and scope with window 10?
@djp_video8 жыл бұрын
The Smartscope's software does run on Windows 10.
@microdoulo22508 жыл бұрын
how can use the smartscope with canon c100?
@djp_video8 жыл бұрын
Since the Canon C100 doesn't have an SDI output, you'd need an HDMI-to-SDI adapter. Once the signal is converted to SDI it plugs right into the back of the monitor.

5 years later and no change, still selling the same thing lol

Yep. I've bugged them about that too. Making a new version based on the Video Assist products seems so easy.
