Yeah, pretty much agree, althou i was thinking more on seeing these guys in a show like this one, not categorizing Patrice or anything like that. And i belive Ubisoft gave him the tools to make a game with 100+ devs, and this is a unique opportunity these days even if you have to make shitty concessions, at the end it was just time for him to move on as the franchise grew larger than him. I identified with him a lot, as i too have hot blood and am very passionate over projects i worked on and got screwed, just like him.

+nevar23 I am as well. Might just be that it was the first one I experienced and the whole thing was actually very fresh and cool at that point (although even then I found it repetitive). The subsequent games felt like expansion packs and that was never enough for me, even if I'd say they are probably better video games as a result of their little additions. But they lacked any impact, until Black Flag anyway, where I spent hours sailing, shit yeah. Also, I quite enjoyed how far back it was set. I wish they'd go back to that period, if not even further. Reading up on it the Assassins have been around since around 500BC -- now _that'd_ be fucking rad, pre-Christ AC.

This was the first game since Prince of Persia to really appeal to me in a way that few games have since. It seems that every game Patrice works on has me in its thrall and makes me wish there was just so much more of it. I’ll be honest, his Ancestors game makes me quite anxious because of how thoroughly ambitious it looks, but I know the second that game goes into my disc tray or whatever, it’ll be the only thing I play for YEARS.

Patrice Désilets is the equivalent of what George Lucas means to Star Wars. There's plenty of rumors about how Patrice Désilets wanted to conclude his franchise with Desmond Miles but Ubisoft wasn't fond of his ideas so they fired him after Brotherhood. Now of course if any of the rumors are true about how AC was supposed to end, most of them still sounds way better and more consistent than what we got... It's really unfortunate for Patrice, it's legit the classic story with one man having a cool idea/product where he works which propels the company into to an amount of absurd wealth to then be tossed aside by some suits and tie without receiving not even 1% of the immense monetary benefit of his invention. Patrice should've left Ubisoft with his own idea and start his own studio with his friends and who knows how it would've turned out (I'm pretty sure it would've been way better). Especially today when you see all these TV shows based on video game like TW or the upcoming Warhammer 40k TV show series on Amazon that Henry Cavill will star and produce. Forget the AC 2016 movie they did, just imagine with competant writers and people who actually understand the AC universe.

I thought AC1 was a better designed game than 2. The first one was laser focused on the running and assassinating. 2 was more like everything and the kitchen sink with surprisingly little of that.
@maximeteppe76278 жыл бұрын
I believe they heard the criticism of the first game being repetitive and corrected that... but went overboard. The addition of large hammers and armor doesn't fare well with the whole stealth assasin thing. But the lack of focus is really the scourge of AAA gaming: every game needs to have a progression system, an open world, vehicles, side missions etc... Only recently, with games like Doom 2016 are we seeing a shift back to more focused and gameplay driven games.
@gurglinghermits30437 жыл бұрын
i never met anyone that shares my opinion on the first AC being better focused. really gives the feeling of planning and executing. although 2 is enjoyable on account of being more video gamey, and ergo campy, but loses a lot of the first game's sense of direction.
@2Fiddle4U6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, well, maybe relatively better designed, but the first one admittedly was a series of unique concepts that went unrealized. It was more focused than 2, though. Whereas the first was this atmospheric open-world urban stealth platformer in the vein of Prince of Persia, the second was a swashbuckling GTA-sandbox action-adventure in the vein of the Shadow, or Zorro, or Errol Flynn. The first had a world in which you carried out a job, in the second, the world was a playground for "fun"
@danielspencer59085 жыл бұрын
@@2Fiddle4U What are you talking about, the premise of the second one is that you are playing as a novice, not an assassin, it's more character and story driven, while AC1 focuses more on Desmond's story while Altair is flat as a pancake in terms of character building.

I really need to go back and finish this game (and Prince of Persia). I never got very far in either, partially because I am terrible at precision jumps, and partially because (in the case of ACII) I went in with zero knowledge of the first game, and I was very confused with what was going on in Desmond's side of the story. I do know, based on my friends who have played the series, that some people either really like Desmond, or they completely ignore him in favor of the assassin. I know some people specifically only played the Ezio story, because they liked him in particular, and when his arc ended, they lost interest. I can't say I blame them-- in any series where the main character is replaced with someone else, I have my favorites as well.

@hugevibez8 жыл бұрын
+lulubeloo 2 is really good and it's sequels build onto that. 3 is absolute crap, though it does finish desmond's story if you finished the other games. 4 is really good again because pirates. Unity is "ugh, why do they bother?", and Syndicate is a bit samey but it has a nice cast of characters. To be frank, not really that great of a series, but the first one is bland and ACII is a lot more interesting. That said, Damascus of AC1 is the best AC-city IMO, with Venice a close second.
