Blame these US companies who’ve been allowed to outsource so many jobs to countries where they can pay a fraction of what they’d pay a domestic worker. I used to turn my nose up at people who would sigh in relief when they got me on the line and say “Thank God. An American,” thinking they were just racist aholes. But after leaving my CSR job and finding myself interacting w/more and more thickly accented voices whenever calling a company for assistance, I understand and no longer judge.

Nah those people are still ignorant and you should still kind of low-key judge them, I get where they're coming from but to say it in a way like that makes them sound like dicks.

As someone who works in customer service, do not assume that an accent means outsourced labor. The amount of energy some of my coworkers have to waste convincing the person on the other line that they are speaking to someone in the U.S.... 😩

A major problem I've experienced with call centers is that, you're talking with people who see your situation as privileged. They're on the phone, providing service under duress, and you're casually calling to rent a car so you can "leisurely" go about your business. You can forget about getting empathy. There's no incentive for them to care about you or your plight; especially if they're doing their jobs. If their company is reporting that a car is available, their job is to book it for you. They don't give a rat's behind if the company is full of crap or not. They're working under duress.

I’m sorry but yeah it’s especially annoying when dealing with Verizon. I spent probably what amounts to 10-15 hours over the span of weeks trying to get a $100 gift card they owed me. They wouldn’t email me a code. It had to be mailed and every customer service rep was horrible. People probably nice but outsourcing customer service to a foreign country is torture.

It’s not a race issue it’s a language competency issue which is essentially a skills issue. It’s not the person on the phone’s fault, it’s the company for going cheap on labor. If someone hired me to do I.T. for Germans it wouldn’t mean I’m dumb or lazy it’d just reflect my poor German 🤷🏼♂️
@Jeimuzu172 жыл бұрын
Korey is not wrong , my own personal experiences have all came out the same with the same type of people and hes right again its not their fault its the fault of these companies that want the cheap labor in other countries. I don't think they would but it's the truth it's ridiculous that these companies outsource to other countries and people who are more then likely reading from a book and aren't properly trained to deal with certain if they are upset or something. I noticed they are starting to outsource chat support as well to other countries,I don't blame it on them but more on these companies who just want to be cheap and don't want to properly do this right.

The thing w/many black CSRs is they don’t suffer fools. If you come at them sideways from the beginning of the call, taking out your frustrations w/the company on them, expect to receive NO help or the bare minimum. I worked among many of my sisters in a call center for nearly a decade and saw this time and again. But Martin is right. I’ve noticed when I present as a sympathetic figure who’s been through the ringer and needs “saving,” it’s the black (female) reps who throw on their capes to save the day.
