The DCEU ended not with a bang, not even a whimper, but a cough. A loud hacking cough. This franchise had the potential to match even the best of the MCU, but Warner Bros flew way too close to the sun with their behind-the-scenes stories. Good luck to your new DC Universe, James Gunn. I think it’s because DC was arrogant. Cuz DC characters used to probably be infinitely more popular than Marvel characters, but due to the careful crafting of first saga of the MCU, that’s probably not the case anymore. Not everybody is gonna flood to the theater just because it’s Batman or Superman or Wonder Woman. The underperformance of Justice League and Batman v. Superman not even crossing $1 billion support this. These are iconic characters but if they’re in lackluster movies then they’re being set up to fail. ☹️

Their stock price is down this week by 10% and they are 60+% chance of bankruptcy. Listen I hope you and others enjoy Gunns vision but I’m done. I loved MOS, BVS UE and ZSJL and if he ever gets to conclude his story on Netflix I will be there with bells on. But I won’t give WBD or Gunn a penny towards the DC box office. The whole thing with Manta is that they softened him in the first movie with the New 52 backstory. The point of the character has always been one thing and one thing only. He. *HATES*. Arthur Curry. No reason. No justification. No compromise. Every waking moment is spent on how to ruin Arthur's day. When Arthur died, Manta retired. When he came back to life, Manta murdered everyone in a 20 foot radius, got back in his suit and disappeared into the ocean screaming Aquaman's name. The single mindedness is what makes the dude compelling and I'm glad they kind of tried to rectify the poor decision made in the first film and the New 52 to make him some kind of justified and sympathetic.

I didn't like how the goof-ball personality was played up. Jason Momoa was basically playing himself, not Arthur Curry. It was getting annoying. He didn't take anything seriously until death was close. In the first movie, the character of Arthur Curry was balanced. He was a little sarcastic & cracked a joke sometimes but he understood the seriousness of the each situation.

However, with the sequel it was such a bad luck to release it as the final movie in a messy universe and it'll likely be the last time Wan makes a superhero movie and that's a shame since he's a good director in this genre that got stucked with a bad universe

I'm reminded of when SIN CITY 2 came out, another comic book sequel that had most of the last film's talent coming back and everything people loved last time, but the cultural shift was so profound between movies that it's nowhere close to the first movie's success. The only thing I felt this movie did better than the first was making Black Manta a threat. He was hoed so hard in the first movie, so I was glad that he was able to show his skill set. Other than that, this movie was so-so. Also, when the trailer came out and I saw Aquaman had a baby, my immediate reaction was, "Uh oh. They're not gonna do it, will they?" If you know, you know.

I think Orm should have been given back the throne after coming close to sacrificing himself for Atlantis. Saw it yesterday. I’m really on the fence about it. I definitely enjoyed the first Aquaman movie a lot better (sorry Martin!). I think the first film had a better story, better script, and both Nicole Kidman and Amber Heard had a lot more to do in it. This one was pretty much all over the map story wise, with some glaringly bad CGI, and was much more of a buddy comedy with Aquaman and his brother. I definitely detected cuts in the film too, like we’re not seeing the complete film. I’m also disappointed that Willem Defoe is not in the new movie at all, as I really enjoyed his role as Aquaman’s mentor in the first film, but he’s not in the new film. I missed him. And you can say whatever you want about Amber Heard, but trimming her part of Mera in this movie to the point where she was pretty much kept in the background, I think was wrong. Mera is now Aquaman’s wife and the mother of his child, and there were scenes where Aquaman is hanging out at home with the baby, he’s hanging out with his Dad….where’s Mera? And when she does finally appear in scenes, she has one or two lines at the most. Clear evidence of cuts, cuts, cuts. At least I wasn’t bored. It’s a very lively movie. But I just didn’t find this new Aquaman movie to be all that engaging. I’ll gladly re-watch the first Aquaman movie, I like it a lot. This new Aquaman movie kinda falls right down the middle for me, and I’m not sure I’ll ever watch it again.

Saw it today with my friend. It's definitely a rental. I really expected to hate it alot more, but I agree with you guys. There were some legit good moments in the movie and even a few moments (like one or two) that made me laugh. Though, there were moments that could have been cut out the movie, and strangely I'm not talking about the Amber Heard parts. In fact, I would have liked to see more of Mera, but understandably Amber's personal situation didn't help much.

Hope everyone had a very merry Christmas and happy holidays! 🎅🎄✌️ I finally saw the movie with my sister and her boyfriend, worth the wait This sequel is just as fun as the first movie Jason Mamoa and Patrick Wilson's chemistry is really good bantering as half brothers, they have actual friction between them that could be resolved James Wan knows how to deliver the action and effects Amber Heard as Mera thankfully wasn't cut out entirely considering her personal life despite it being written awkwardly I did like Yayah-Abdul Mateen II as Black Manta more this time around, he has more to his motivation for wanting to get revenge on Aquaman with this Black Trident The score once again by Rupert Gregson Williams is really good keeping a lot of the familiar cues There's plenty of themes about brotherhood, being a parent as well as a king, having no ambition for a job, not letting our differences be so extreme that they divide us, learning to have different worlds communities and culture come together to fix the worlds problems, we can’t leave our children in a world without hope, how can others see how much we are hurting if we don’t communicate? There’s still plenty of funny lines, I like how Jason Mamoa still makes this superhero be badass and not be too much of a joke, and it's never boring Although Nicole Kidman barely has anything to do this time around, Willem Dafoe is lazily written out, if you have a problem with a lot of the exposition then it won’t work for you, and the first film still left a more fun impression most would agree It's a shame this is the last DCEU movie since things will be changing big time at Warner Bros. because of James Gunn so I'm wondering how future DC superhero projects will differ now This isn’t the worst thing involving the DCEU and it is flawed but it is doing it’s job entertaining involving the king of Atlantis

Honestly what needs to happen is Marvel and/or DC need to start making actual super hero films with R rating. Not necessarily just to pack it with unneeded gore nudity or whatever makes it an R rated film, but you can take things to a pretty dark place as far as the story line. That would interest me again. Like Joker…which was freakin fantastic

Saw the movie and the most memorable thing you'll remember from this movie is world of Aquaman, its world building, the creatures, the effects, Black Manta's suit, fight scenes, and..that's about it. I feel like they increased the goofiness of the movie to its detriment. Characters that were goofy in the 1st film are way too comedic, (Ex:King Orm, I'm sorry I had to disagree. King Orm had a reason to be serious, here its too much)Characters that weren't are comedic now, and its just too much. Aquaman 1 felt better balance.

This movie had nothing that made me want to see it again and I believe I laughed once at Momoa and Wilson... The second movie definitely should have been Manta vs Aquaman but the Black Trident and the story of the two brother kings should have been the third movie were he and Orm finish things... I think the movie could have been much better but they didn't care they just want the DCEU to go away!

This movie went through numerous reshoots. It would not surprised me if James Wan will speak out about the stressful production and the film not being what he originally intended. I am not looking forward to James Gunn DCU.

Tl:dr Pros good action effects costumes and props Cons: no danger, awkward jokes No sacrifice I was disappointed at the end fight it was not very climactic I wanted to see more struggle between Aquaman and his brother or at least the undead King everything else is cool I just came out in the theater it looked cool it wasn't hilarious at the comedy beats but they weren't cringey and ridiculous it didn't seem out of character for Aquaman and I was pleased with how he seemed settled into his new life I can't really decide if Pacific Islander references to the actors Heritage were canned or not each time I saw one. No I really felt no danger no sense of threat or even urgency because it felt like some buddy cop comedy, and everything was resolved at the end satisfyingly with no real price to be paid his father didn't die and his brother got off without having to go back to prison die himself to protect his son or anything like that which I thought was going to happen with the black tried being thrown at his wife and kid someone was going to take the bullet and dive in front of it and being that far under the sea it would be too late to revive them or something like that.... that did not happen. I was also expecting there to be some maturity and he would come to terms and let Orrin become king again and he would retire to his life on land released from the burdens of being on the throne but could still be the protector because they kept nagging at it bringing it up near the end when him and his brother we're still exploring and sharing their motivations....
