Honestly the imaginary friend scenario makes a lot more sense. If he really made up Cool Cat to cope with bullying and never learned to grow past that childish mindset, then it would explain why he's so out of touch with what kids think is "cool", or any audiences for that matter.

Fun Fact: Despite this being marketed at a kid's film, the creator Derek Savage submitted this to a stoner film festival. Also, there are apparently two sequels with even worse camera and acting quality, and a new film location cause Derek was given a restraining order by the actress who voiced Mama Cat and was essentially forced to move to another state, after he broke into her house multiple times and stalked her and the VA for Cool Cat.

Xmas has come early! Thank you guys for doing this. It's funny. There are so many parallels between this and Sia's "Music". Both Daddy Derek and Sia approached the movie with the idea of representing the more vulnerable of society: Derek sought to represent children who were bullied, Sia to represent the autistic community; but when they got into, they both got too involved in their vanity and built their storylines around inaccurate, outdated, and sometimes outright deceitful information; both created characters who seemed based upon caricaturized versions of certain characters rather than actual people; both did things to make their cast uncomfortable: Sia kept pushing Maddie Ziegler to do scenes where she felt she was outright mocking autistic people, and Derek Savage; oh boy, where do I start? For one thing, he didn't even bother to write lines for Connor Dean, and there was the sexual harassment against the woman who played Mama Cat, and his unfounded jealousy against Jason Johnson, which made him chase him out of her house. Most of all, there's the way they reacted to the overwhelming negative feedback against their movies. Sia went on that whole "Grrr, fuckity fuck" rampage on twitter, and with Derek Savage, well we all know how that played out. But between the two vanity projects, I would say "Cool Cat" is the less of two evils. For as confounded and as inconsistent as the plot may be, there are moments in it which are really lively and hilarious, some which are really lighthearted. And it has a music video which is actually enjoyable. And for all his deludedness, I don't feel Derek Savage really exudes the same levels of narcissistic toxicity that Sia does. He is ignorant, and certainly doesn't understand bullying as well as he thinks he does. But on the whole, I feel "Cool Cat" is forgivable compared to "Music" in that the sloppiness and inaccurate plot makes for more laughs than tears, as "Music" certainly does. What do you say?

A fun fact is that the Creator/Writer/Director actually has no hard feelings about those that tear the movie apart, so long as they don't get nasty about it. I look at this and wonder if it'd be better if this was animated. Like actually hire some talented people even if its lower budget. Maybe the artstyle can be like those old 70s animations with the scratchy outlines. Like set the world in a world of normal talking animals and make Cool Cat like a mistly silent bobcat in a leather jacket or something.
