I think it's bogus to say that Nicolas Cage didn't "transform himself". He has mentioned in interviews that the version of himself in this movie is actually very diffeent from who he is in real life. He is not neurotic, or crazy, or annoying. The actual Cage (mentioned by him)) is actually very chill, reserved and sometimes shy. The cage in the film is more a representaiton of his cinematic self.

When your an actor trying to get into character is that your being another person. Cage being in his own cinematic character was hilarious but being his real self, the audience wouldn’t be interested

This movie reminds me of “Being John Malkovich” (being in the head of a notable character actor) with the meta-reference of how celebrity and reality intersect. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Being_John_Malkovich It’s even more intriguing with this movie is how much the media perception of Nicolas Cage (the spending, the extreme acting, slumming it in subpar projects, etc.) overshadows his talent. I also see some resemblance with the movie and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confessions_of_a_Dangerous_Mind_(film) It it’s even more meta that the actor Pedro Pascal is a huge Nicholas Cage fan and playing a character (Javi) that is a huge Nicholas Cage fan. I’m really intrigued about this movie and I hope it gets Nicholas Cage some positive attention (his performance in “Pig” was highly praised).
@IAteFire2 жыл бұрын
It’s also very similar to Adaptation. - another filming starring two Nicolas Cages and written by Charlie Kaufman (same as Being John Malkovich) - in which the movie increasingly becomes a parody of itself

The middle of the movie is worth the price of admission. The LSD trip is one of the funniest segments of a movie this year, so far. Unfortunately, the beginning is slow, and the end is every 2000's buddy action-comedy script that you've ever seen. I agree with Martin, I wish they had kept the focus on the meta friendship between Cage and a superfan millionaire.

There is a scene with a dutch angle shot like Gone in Sixty Seconds The scene where Him and Pedro walking towards each other is shot like Face-Off The car chase scene is shot like the car chase scene on The Rock There so many easter egg camera shots from other films like that throughout the movie. I think the films structure is deliberate and makes it more funny.
