Outside of Beast Wars, Transformers was something I was into when I was very little. In college, I was randomly buying action movies and anime one day. I randomly took a chance on revisiting this and bought it. I absolutely loved it all over again. My boys would constantly borrow it, etc.

I took my nephews to the new movie, which was pretty entertaining, and they absolutely loved it. I told them how Unicron was from the the 86 movie and showed them it via KZbin and they were hooked. Their jaws dropped when Unicorn transformed. It was a pretty cool moment.

I love this film. The 1986 Transformers film is the best film out of them all. It's the definitive transformers film with it's interesting an intriguing story an characters. Unicron is an incredible villian. Optimis prime an Megatron are incredible im this film. The soundtrack is awesome 🙂

There was a lot of deleted scenes from this movie that involved a lot of death and more seamless scene transitions and what not. A guy called artiststan is trying to animate some of those scenes to reinsert them in the film. Guys doing great work.

I was born in 2001 and my brother was born in 1999 and we both loved this movie as kids! My mum said this movie was like marijuana for us because when we watched it we were completely mellowed out. This movie was the reason me and my brother went to see the first Michael Bay transformers movie, but we ended up HATING it! One time, our sitter asked to borrow our DVD of the film for her boyfriend to watch, we let them borrow it and apparently they liked it. If memory serves, the boyfriend even watched it with his friends. Also, I like the soundtrack! I rewatched it recently and still think it holds up.

After seeing that TV commercial I wonder why he even put effort into this movie. It's appreciated but it's clear he was at a very dissatisfied point in his life. Also I would like to point out that while a name like Welles definitely had gone over the head of kids like myself back then I seriously doubt he was only known by grandma's and grandpa's. Citizen Kane has managed to still be referenced for a decade after this movie came out in pop culture. Older parents should still recognize that name with ease back then.

Lol… Welles actually gave a terrible performance according to everyone there. He sounded like total crap, he died soon after this performance, and they were worried they would have to scrap all his line’s because of quality. After some added effect and filters they created that booming voice you hear in the film and salvaged it

@@Fernando_616 iirc , I don't think the performance itself was terrible, just that his voice was barely louder than a whisper at the time. Poor guy had a hard time at the end of his life. His performance in that wine commercial was also due to the medications he was taking ,not because he was drunk. It's such a sad end for a man who was declared 'The Master' at a young age.

If you were to strip me of all entertainment media and allowed me to pick just one to keep, it would easily be this movie. The whole movie was to push new toys. The creators admit they didn't expect the reaction to Prime's death. Again, it's time to advance the product line. The music and language was because they understood the kids were getting older. Also, there are different versions depending on format. I had VHS as a kid and I didn't remember them saying "Shit!". Saw it at original Alamo Drafthouse on Colorado and was shocked by the cursing. They editing the tape obviously. The 20th anniversary edition was unedited.

Unfortunately, I had the tragedy of being those kids when this movie came out in a way. When I was a kid in the early 2000s, my Dad had a bin of DVDs I use to go in that bin and rewatch my favorite movies. Eventually I found this Transformers DVD case, it was thick and had a silver coloring, it basically contained most of S1. I rewatched that over and over again, it was just a fun 80s cartoon. And then...I found the movie and that was the worst mistake of my life. I thought it was just going to be the 80s cartoon but in movie form, when I saw the infamous shuttle scene, I was traumatized lol.

Everyone knows Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime but he also voiced Ironhide (his second-in-command) in the G1 series and the movie. Funny enough, his Ironhide voice is the same as Monterey Jack from Rescue Rangers, except one's southern and the other is Australian.

This is definitely one of my favorite cult classic movies and was the first action cartoon I ever watched. Don't get me wrong; it's not perfect. They definitely could've given more context, the cast was already too big even without the new characters, Hasbro soullessly killed off so many fan favorites just because their toys were being discontinued, and the tone drastically jumps between goofy Saturday morning cartoon and "WTF! THEY JUST GOT MELTED ALIVE!" on a coin flip. That said, I still love this movie. The animation is gorgeous, the music (while cheesy and 80s) is total hype IMO and makes the film feel like more of a period piece, the action is great, and I thought everyone did great with what they were given (I swear they were torturing the guy who voices Spike for him to give that delivery 46:12). I also find it funny how despite Orson Wells not giving the tiniest piece of a shit about playing Unicron, Unicron would still probably be his most iconic role for my & younger generations. Plus the scene with Optimus kicking ass while "you got the touch" is playing truly is cinema.

I saw this movie during the summer of '86 for my 7th birthday. Not since has a movie, both excited and traumatized me at the same time. Prime flatlining still hurts my soul. Lol. But, I'm glad that I did see it back then since it was the bridge between seasons 2 and 3 of the show. Kids who didn't see the movie were totally lost when the new season began. Since then, I've probably seen it about 50/11 times between the different DVD and Blu-Ray releases and anniversary showings in the theater and I own the soundtrack. Agreed, it is still the best Transformers film.

That ultra magus scene was meant to be worst, original they torture him and pulled him apart limb by limb, that why the junktons were able to bring him back by putting all his parts together. But at last minute it was deem little too extreme and it edit down him get shot. They also foreshadow Hot Rod getting the leadership in death scene, it was Hot Rod who catches the matrix after it falls from Optimus hand and gives to ultra magus, the Matrix get really bright like a star when Hot Rod touched it.

The other great thing about this movie is the soundtrack. Vince dicola synth tracks matches with the overall theme of the movie. Damn! Martin was 21 when this came out?! I was 5, crying in the theaters when Optimus died. The reason why they killed off so many of the gen 1 transformers is because they figured they could sell all new toys to kids. The backlash was so severe, the idea to kill Duke in GI Joe was walked back and he was only "in a coma".

The only one that registered to me was Optimus and at the time I was like ... he's a robot! Just fix him! Which is exactly what they do with Ultra Magnus and I just kept thinking to myself ... NOW GO BACK AND FIX THE OTHER AUTOBOTS!!! End of movie ... wait? how can the movie be over? They didn't fix the autobots that went down at the beginning! You guys need to fix them! >.< My kid mind broke.

I really think, as people become adults, they overestimate the sensitivities of children in kid's media. I liked the TF cartoon growing up and when I saw the movie, I just thought it was hype af and it didn't really hit me that the autobots were dying. I just thought it was cool that the movie was going there and respected the maturity of it.

Great review! I really enjoy the G1 cartoon, but this movie introduced a lot of things I hated about the season that followed (Quintessons, for example). So, I don’t hold the movie to a high regard like other fans, but it still has its moments.

Well I was a kid in the 80's I had mostly all the transformers, I got at less 4 transformers on Christmas. Soon has school was out, at 3:30, I had to get home very quickly, the after school line up he-man thunder cats and transformers or G.I Joe. Only thing messed me up is when the autobots was getting killed

The music is dated.........There isnt a main stream song in it. but, the heavy metal for its day just fit......... heavy metal music , heavy metal beings/transformers. I think the first 3 movies with Linkin Park doing the main song for each was perfect... Rise of the beasts was missing that ... dont get me wrong, 90's hip hop was good at parts but just missed that one heavy metal song to have just made the movie pop.

They killed Ironhide, Ratchet, Wheel Jack, and other original Autobots just like that at the very beginning. I'm surprised they didn't kill Bumblebee or Jazz.
