He lucked out on the role of a lifetime. He has some of the best job security in the entire industry because there will ALWAYS be Scooby-Doo media for him to voice. Even Matthew admits it, he said himself he probably would've quit acting entirely if not for this movie.

It's a good cast especially Matthew Lillard as Shaggy, he totally nailed the role especially the voice. Vilma as well sounded like the cartoon. If James Gunn's version was released, we could've had something like "the Brady Bunch" movies or "the Addams Family" movies from the 90's. That mean spirited parody style would've been great for Scooby-Doo, considering WB is working with James Gunn again, they should give his version another shot.

Fun fact: After the 2002 and 2004 movies both Linda Cardellini and Mathew Lillard would go on to appear in another scooby project, the 2010 animated series Scooby Doo: Mystery incorporated which also featured the original Shaggy Casey Kasem as the voice of Shaggy's father which I guess could be viewed as a passing of the torch. The Scrappy hate train is old and tired at this point. Back in the day on Saturday mornings if Scrappy was that BAD there were plenty other options, especially since Hanna Barbera made the same type of "teen mystery solver cartoons with a goofy mascot" for a long time. No one was *"forced"* to endure Scrappy Doo.
@Santoryu90
@Santoryu90 2 жыл бұрын
The problem that it was and still is the most popular and well known. Yeah it’s tired the funny thing is Scrappy actually saved the franchise back then. It kinda sucks because nowadays there’s no attempt to really do anything with the character other than point out how much of a mistake he was and despite my love for this movie I think it’s where that sentiment kinda started. They were arguably worst than characters than Scrappy, anyone remember Scooby-Dumb?

They were forced to endure Scrappy-Doo specifically if they wanted to watch new Scooby-Doo. That was the problem. The character was WAY overexposed, to the point he had his own episodes with Scooby-Dum and some lame Shaggy wannabe with a cowboy hat and glasses, iirc. I actually didn’t mind reruns with Scrappy as a kid, but as an adult, I can totally see why people hated him back in the day.

@@BareBandSubscriptionI grew up back then, Scrappy was popular. The show did get back on track when Daphne reappeared and they eventually had episodes that included Velma and Fred, proving they didnt disappear altogether. And I say again, there were *plenty* other options. And as Martin mentioned in the video, Scrappy begat Scrappy-like characters in most of the cartoons of the time so even not watching Scooby Doo, they'd be screwed. Scooby Doo was popular but it wasnt nearly what it is today. Scrappy was brought on because the Scooby series had run its course. Also, the character you described was Scooby's brother Yabba Doo, not his cousin Scooby Dum.

I'm in the minority that didn't find Scrappy Doo that annoying, in fact I find the online Scrappy Doo hate more annoying than the character himself. Also, making him the twist villain was really stupid.

So that company that made a Scooby maquette that was taken away from them and handed to a vfx house… That company was the Jim Henson Studios. Just think about how different (better) this movie would have looked with a Jim Henson animatronic Scoob.

Next the legendary Casey Kasem, Matthew Lillard is a perfect Shaggy. It's no wonder he beat out Scott Innes and Billy West when it was time to replace Kasem. And no disrespect to Kate Miccui but I'd really love for Linda Cardellini to be the future voice of Velma in new cartoons

It's not a high bar in the first place, but I think the 2nd is one of those rare sequels better than the 1st. It also feels way more like classic Scooby Doo. Also if you like Velma, she's way better in the 2nd movie!

@@A-Dubs398 That’s actually why I didn’t like it. Played it too safe and felt more like a chore to sit through. This one at least stood out because of how zany and different it was. Probably why the 2nd one didn’t do well and the 3rd film got canceled

I didn't mind this at all. Probably the most awkward adaptation of an classic cartoon show. Doing what we expect from the cartoon and somethings we didn't. There was 5 movies in all with the first 2 films combined gross of $450 mil plus worldwide. The other 3 were prequel stories: 2 for Cartoon Network and 1 straight to video. The Scooby-Doo franchise as an whole is the longest running of Hanna-Barbara's tv legacy. Joe Ruby & Ken Spears, the creators of Scooby-Doo and Mystery Inc. both passed away last year.

Yeah I grew up with this, yeah not everything held up 20 years after its release, there are cringe parts. And yet, I consider this and the sequel (which I felt was better than the first, mostly because that felt like the cartoon) to be major, MAJOR guilty pleasures. And yeah, my crush on Linda Cardellini also came from this. Fun fact: The Jim Henson Creature Shop built a puppet of him for the movie before they replaced it with CGI. Which if they decided to go with that but mix it with the CG Scooby, it would've been similar to another movie the Creature Shop helped work on called Jack Frost, where they made a puppet snowman but has moments with a CGI snowman. Also, look up the concept art for this movie, Scooby would've looked a WHOLE LOT WORSE than the final movie, where they stuck a bit TOO close to his cartoon counterpart

If anyone wants a Scooby Doo episode parody done right check out Johnny Bravo meets Scooby Doo on KZbin. It spoofs an episode brilliantly and tiptoes the line into PG-13 humor. I laughed out loud throughout. They did their own hallway spoof in which two Johnny’s run out lol. Written by Seth McFarlane!

I kinda agree with you about Scrappy Doo because he's like a new trend character to make it a cash grab for us Scooby fans when were little. Unfortunately, it brings our hatred over 90% of what he's been doing and nobody gives a damn about that character anymore. Oh, well. It has moments with Scrappy but still he doesn't belong to the HB Universe.
