I remember watching this in theaters and the most tragic part (as the guys pointed out here) is that the first 1/4 of this is actually pretty good. The idea of Bond getting caught and later MI6 suspecting that he might have been brainwashed, and hence could now be a sleeper agent for NK was very intriguing and fresh. It turns into a completely different (and bad) movie right after he escapes from the boat and goes to HK. Any potential falls by the wayside and we end up in Roger Moore territory for the rest of the film. I think every Bond ending their tenure with 1-2 shit movies is almost as traditional to the franchise as the gun barrel intro.

I actually enjoyed it. Dosnt take it self too seriously, its fun, beautiful women, and a great scene involving Ryu Hayabusa . Close to a Ninja Gaiden film we got. @@thecunninlynguist

It has one of the first "fps" shooting sequences in a movie. It's a memorable part of an otherwise terrible movie.

25:38 Think this was a nod to another Bond film water entrance in this fashion. 26:36 Yeah, that.

This movie is pretty bad but I’ve always thought that I’d rather have a terrible bond movie that I can at least laugh at its silliness then on me that’s just boring like Spectre

The orchestra version of the theme in this movies is actually awesome, they should’ve just used that

For some reason (other than Halle Berry) I always liked this film. It has a great opening action sequence followed by one of the best Bond opening credits. Bond being totured through the credits was awesome. Most of the rest of the film is pretty over the top but still full of great stuntwork, exotic locales, and intense action. The sword fight Brosnan has (in which he obviously does most of the fight without a stuntman) is one of the best I've seen in a long time. Credit to the stunt choreographer who did a great job in making these guys look like they were trying to really kill each other.

In my mind, I've firmly had a complete rewrite of DAD - post 🇰🇵 capture sequence. Even then there's a number of elements in the beginning of the film pre credits that have been modified to make it better. Everyone says that Brosnan deserved a 5th outing to make up for the shortfall, but they really had the missed opportunity with D.A.D. to make it a real kick arse outing that would even give Craig a harder run for his money. Pierce still had the acting chops and intensity to pull off a decent tough arse, old school Bond of the right script and creative opportunity was presented to him at the time.

I have a soft spot for this film even though I think it's one of weaker Bond films, but I actually enjoyed this more than World is not Enough. I think this was a victim of a somewhat cynical time, where it got the double whammy The Bourne Identity and the third Austin Powers films coming out earlier that year, so that showed stark contrast and all of this was Post 9/11, so I think a lot of people kinda bounce off from it , at least the critics, but iirc it did decent box office.

I was all in for wanting to see this just because it was the 20th film and being released during the 40th anniversary of the franchise. Yes it was the height of 'over the top' for the franchise. Also nods and easter eggs to those 4 decades of 007. But of course, 'over the top' isn't always a good thing and even some were calling this kinda bad. Even Madonna doing the theme song and making a cameo, cool to some and seen as cringe/unnecessary. I was cool with the plot, action, one liners, etc. It was all over the place as most Bond films tend to be anyway. The filmmakers wanting to change direction of 007 seemed understood and I guess things like that are a priority to save an I.P. This as Brosnan's 4th and final as Bond wasn't a total lost. There was a video game called Everything Or Nothing. First on Game Boy Advance. But then on Gamecube, PS2 and Xbox with a voice cast including Brosnan as Bond for the very last time.
