I actually think this movie could've been substantially better if they made Moore's age by this time a core plot point regarding Bond himself. There's a scene in the movie where Stacey Sutton is going to sleep and instead of just getting in bed with her like he would usually do and like what he does with freaking Grace Jones earlier, he just watches over her kind of like a paternal guardian. Obviously it's a small detail and it gets completely undermined later when the film ends on them showering together but I think they could've actually leaned into the fact Bond was past his prime and had to accept the fact he wasn't as physically capable of doing certain things that came as natural to him before, especially paired with Walken and Jones as villains since they were what injected the film with a lot of that younger energy

I watched this again recently during a 007 binge-watch (all but the most recent two prior to No Time to Die were on Amazon Prime) I’m old enough to have seen The Spy Who Loved Me on the big-screen, and certain Bond films like this are better than most give credit for. Nothing that happens in View is as silly as the car-plane nor as anticlimactic as Scaramanga’s death in Golden Gun. I mean, yeah Sir Roger was 55-56 and it has its share of groan-worthy humor and coincidental plot devices but it was entertaining then, and still is same as Octopussy (despite the clown and gorilla suits etc.)
@brianharper161110 ай бұрын
I agree, This movie gets picked on, but Roger Moore's Bond films were very silly from the start. Better made than A View to a Kill and Moore wasn't as old, but the stuff that happens in them was always very silly. This movie I think embraces the silliness completely. Moonraker is way more outlandish and that movie has Jaws falling in love.
@bigbabysld10 ай бұрын
I was born in '71, Moore was my era Bond and I grew up with these movies coming on ABC on Sunday nights (I actually saw VIEW TO A KILL in the movies), Moore started off strong following Connery with LIVE AND LET DIE (one of my favorites), THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN and THE SPY WHO LOVED ME, shit went downhill quick with MOONRAKER (the silliest Bond movie to date) then just got boring with FOR YOUR EYES ONLY and OCTOPUSSY. Now I thought VIEW TO A KILL was a fun movie...but Moore just looked tired (Vin Diesel tired like in the latest F & F movies) and he was just too damn old (Moore was older than Connery), if I am correct he was older than (the late) Tonya Roberts mother. On the plus Christopher Walker and Grace Jones hammed it up as the villains....I always thought they were great. The Moore era made the Bond movies to comedic though.

Sir Roger Moore (R.I.P.), by all accounts, was the coolest cat to have played James Bond yet. But, all of his 007 flicks nearly could’ve doubled as comedies. A View to a Kill isn’t even the most farfetched one. That “honor” belongs to either “the Spy Who Loved Me” or “Moonraker.” With the exception of “For Your Eyes Only,” Moore’s 7 Bond flicks may not be fine art-but I like them just fine. That gadget that lets 007 see through the window, actually appears to be intended to see through closed curtains. In the frame where it shows him adjusting the glasses, you can see what looks like a window with closed curtains, in the reflection of his glasses. Next frame appears to be viewed as seeing the couple talking behind curtains, but through bond's glasses, they are visible--as if the glasses frame of view was rectangular like a window, and not round like the frame of the glasses. The camera trick they used to film this shot seems to be a mirror positioned in the foreground with curtains as a background, while what we're seeing is the reflection of the couple at the table, physically located behind camera, but meant to appear as through/behind the curtains.
