Without a doubt (lol), it is the best play I have ever seen on Broadway.

My take on there being ''something there'' is that maybe the priest WAS gay but was NOT molesting the boy. The secret they had was discussing what it meant to be gay in that time and place. He was advising and cautioning the boy. Maybe.

It's so interesting to me how the interviewers continue to ask questions regarding 'facts' about the play. Of course they are very smart people, but they seem to be missing Shanley's parable: tolerate, embrace, uncertainty. Now, as people conducting an interview, of course, they have to ask questions they believe their audience will be interested in. But the lesson of the play seems missed except by John, Brian, and Cherry.

I found the play version had more doubt in it. When I saw the movie first, I had little doubt. The addition of the children in the film changed the tone of the screenplay. I did think of the possibility that Father Flynn was homosexual. But as long as he was celibate, that shouldn't have been a problem. The bid elephant in the room was why did Flynn agree to leave if he was innocent.
