Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade is a movie that doesn't like to fuck around. Jin-Roh comes home at 4:00 in the morning after a long night of binge drinking yet can still speak coherently enough to calm your nerves and soothe your soul, letting you know that everything's going to be alright. Maybe. Jin-Roh's in it to win it, and it wants you to know that there's no other girl out there to match your audacity.
But the real question is, what does it win exactly? Your acceptance as a viewer? Pleasure, or delight in knowing that it's whet your whimsy? Maybe it's but a farce to disarm you, to make us all vulnerable before a venomous strike. Maybe.
Maybe you should like the Facebook: / demolitiondthatsme
Maybe you should read a book: www.amazon.com/...
Maybe you should watch Kill la Kill, although I doubt it: • Kill la Kill - DEMO's ...
Maybe you should check yourself before you wreck your ovaries: • Honoka asserts her dom...
Maybe you should check out the rest of my reviews and dissections: • Reviews and Dissections
Maybe you should watch Gunbuster: • Should you watch: Gunb...
Maybe I should cool it with the links.

It's been a couple years since I've watched any of demo's videos and coming back it's so nice remembering how enjoyable these videos are. Listening to him talk about stuff he enjoys just doesn't get old. When he really loves a show/movie you can really tell and it's infectious. I watched Jin-Roh because of this review and it's been in my top 10 movies ever since. So thank you Demo for shaping my taste in anime over the last near decade and I know youtube sucks but I still miss these videos. Now if only I could remember to drop in to twitch streams more than once a year...

Becuase usually the main character(s) are facing people that are just as smart or have some unnatural power they have to overcome. That being said I wouldn't say that was the strong point of the series, rather the characters themselves progressing and overcoming the challenges that made it entertaining.

This movie is actually the third in the series. It's better than the first two by miles (the first two are live action movies that suffer from low production quality), but a lot about the universe that is not addressed by this movie is addressed in those movies. That's why Jin-Roh begins with the prologue telling the viewer that it is the final chapter; it was literally the last movie made about Oshii's little Kerberos universe. The first two films, while released legally in the US, are a pain in the ass to get a hold of unfortunately. Interesting fact: Oshii agreed to do 'Ghost in the Shell' if Production IG allowed him to do Jin-Roh. Without this movie we never would have had 'Ghost in the Shell' either.

@@B3RyL the Kerberos Saga movies have two audio dramas, two mangas, a spin off (Tachiguishi-Retsuden, which has its roots all the way in Urusei Yatsura) where the only connection is that they take place in the same setting, a weird animated adaptation of that spin off, and a manga crossover of Kerberos Saga with Tachiguishi. I also personally disagree about the other two films. The Red Spectacles and Stray Dog are pretty solid in their own way, even if Jin Roh is the best one out of the three.

Really sorry to be a party pooper, but Yoko Kanno didn't compose the score. Hajime Mizoguchi was the composer. In the end credits, during the Jin-Roh theme reprise, he plays the cello, which adds an entirely different layer when compared to the opening credits version. Thanks for reviewing this movie, it's one of my all time favourites and I'm glad it's getting some well deserved love.

When Jin-Roh first came out I was disappointed that it wasn't dudes in sweet armor fighting all the time, but I revisited it just this last year after I bought it at a Half-price book store and I found it to be very nice. Very nice and warm. There is this little moment that sticks out to me when some soldiers are talking about getting a fourth player for their Mahjong game. They stop and kind of look at Fuse, but then turn away.

There are two types of people who watch anime reviews. Those who just found a review, and those who are subscribed. Those who just found a review ere probably thinking about watching something and decided to look up a review to see if it is any good. The people who are subscribed are the people who just want to hear the reviewers opinion on the show. That's why when a show creates strong feelings, people ask for it to be reviewed so often; They want to hear the reviewers side of the story, and how he felt about it. So what you get are people asking for reviews of things that they like (because everyone likes to hear people agree with them), and people who just want to know if the movie they were about to watch is any good.

The anime hipster (with more... lets say refined tastes... LOL) is real. Everyone has their own tastes in anime. I think anyone that likes KHR is retarded and NGE is the most overrated piece of shit I've ever forced myself to watch (tv series version, can't bring myself to watch the movies). That being said, I think you're like me and are just tired of finding an anime that gets blown out of proportion by the Justin Bieber fanboys of the anime world. SAO is okay... However to some people, it's the most innovative, god-sent, piece of artwork that ever graced their eyeballs. AoT falls into this category as well as NGNL now. However, I personally enjoyed NGNL and would recommend it to a friend if asked about it. I understand it's not perfect or original but there's not many animes that are... I like the art style and comedy in it as well as calculating main characters (even if they go over the top with it at times) and that's good enough for me.

***** What are you trying to achieve? You are judging him for thinking NGNL is "a cancer" and implying that he should not say that because "everyone has their own tastes in anime" while at the same time saying that KHR is "retarded" and NGE is a "piece of shit". Etihic does not work when you apply them to everyone but your self. (Also you use "hipster" as an insult on him while acting as if that "being overrated" is reason enough alone to call something shit... mote and beam, dude, mote and beam) Maybe just "okey" isn't good enough for him to suck a show's dick? Maybe he want's something more interesting than that?

Always sad to see how low the ratings are for this movie. The plot is relatively simple once you figure out the inter-departmental plots and such. And yes, the slow pace deters people with short attention spans. But everything else is fantastic. I just usually credit this films lack of fame due to people being stupid.

@@Gadget-Walkmen The thing that happens when you cannot properly cope with a traumatic event and (usually not willingly) automatically detach yourself from emotions when experiencing something that reminds you of it. You can think of it as going into a semi-autopilot mode where you don't process some or most of what's happening so that it doesn't overwhelm you emotionally, focusing your attention only on the pure mechanical act-in this case, killing. This actually happens to many people even with the much smaller-scale trauma, such as the loss of a beloved pet or corporal punishment endured as a kid, and may trigger momentarily when in a dangerous situation. I went gone through some pretty rough time in my early teens which threw me out of contact with my emotions for years.

I actually really prefer these reviews to your Should You Watches. Should you - Should You Watch's. Hearing you go in depth about movies you really like with humour interspersed is something you do very, very well, and just like in your Sword of the Stranger review, hearing you break down the minutiae of the artistic backgrounds and the motifs of the anime you're reviewing is brilliantly engaging. So, thank you very much for this. You got 100,000 subs for a reason, after all.

I'm really glad you liked this movie so much! It's so difficult finding people who are fans of this director. I'm sure you must get so many requests for reviews to do, but have you ever seen Sky Crawlers? It's one of my all time favorite movies, yet I've seen so many reviews panning it because "how could anybody take a movie about dogfighting teenagers and make it boring?" What I'm saying is, it definitely falls victim to the same problem you mentioned Jin-Roh had, which was "people not getting it." It's the same director and all, and you liked Jin-Roh for a lot of the same reasons Sky Crawlers is good, so I think you'll enjoy it a lot. You have funny, good reviews, also.

Glad you got around to reviewing Jin-Roh, one of my favorites. Gotta say, though, the Jin-Roh 'suits,' the Helghast characters in Killzone, and the infamous Zaku II of Mobile Suit Gundam fame, I don't feel like they're copying off one another, it's just this visual theme for "feel threatened by this military group, because they look a bit Nazi-ish." There should be a word for that kind of design, I'll have to revisit this movie soon, it's been too long. Great stuff, as always.
