Sword of the Stranger is that dank shit your boy smokes to forget his ex-girlfriend but he just ends up crying in the corner of the living room while you watch "Whose line is it anyway?" and it's really fucking annoying because Drew Carey is explaining the next skit and you can't hear anything and it's just, dude come on like your room is right there just shut your door and cry it out then come back so we can chill, you always do this.
What would you like to see reviewed next? Besides Kill la Kill. Kill la Kill is coming. I have some things to say about it.

6:25 The point of the non-romance subplot--because the princess barely knows this dude exists--is character depth. It has bearing on the course of events of the finale. A well written story provides motives for significant characters. It's amazing how its the little details like that which make this movie so great. :)

It isn't popular simply b/c it isn't really known about. Bandai was closing itself down overseas around that time w/o much fanfare & didn't drop much advertisement for what little it had left to sell. I found it by chance at Best Buy's Anime section & was drawn into it by the cover.. but that was a cold sell on my part b/c I never even heard about it before! Heck this was the 09's & that store still had a Full aisle of Anime then! Borders Books had sometimes a full Wall of Manga! Sadly; Bandai dropped the ball (Lucky Star w/ problems & humor specific to Japan?) along w/ others *cough* ADV in releasing Japanese specific shows to try to cater to Westerners~ It Failed Big... Now best buys got 2 shelves & growing smaller every day & Borders is gone. + Toonami was nothing but shows that people overseas could easily jump into and that did Fantastically.. those mistakes gave me a feeling like watching a seven year long train wreck that has never recovered. Look to any convention & notice how the past is always up front every time.. everywhere. + Here's to waiting for the Final Bandai release at the end of this year w/ GUNDAM UNICORN 7! *huzzah*

What the fuck is it with people worrying about the dog dying??? Its a dark and gritty action movie, its not going to be sunshine and rainbows for any sort of creature, innocent animal, child or human alike. I'm going to probably bet u the dog doesn't die but ffs I don't ever see people asking if the kid or even a cat dies yet there tons of people asking if the dog bites the dust! I freaking love dogs and admire their loyalty towards humans in general (I even think they are better than most humans I seen) but this is getting insane. The comments section is probably filled with tons of spoilers right now. No wonder Call of Duty Ghosts sold the least out of the franchise.

Think the princess part was just to show us that even the bad guys are human, young lad with aspiration doing what he thinks is right. Dreaming of a future with the woman he loves. Her waiting for him to come back with glory, claimed in foreign lands, to demand and earn her hand. It's just to show us soldiers are not assholes, just dreamy young men doing what they think is right.

there is more detail tho. In the last fight, you see the protagonist take his sword and casually walk to the nearest fire, he was warming his blade which made it more durable in cold weather. You can see that the blonde dude's sword broke first during the fight.
@SageVallant
@SageVallant 9 жыл бұрын
Blip Blop Both swords are actually broken by the end, you can see both happen. Nanashi was probably more worried about his HAND being warm and dry; you can see that Luo Lang is also trying to keep his sword-hand warm shortly before their fight. Gotta keep a good grip or you're going to lose. The entire fight is so beautifully, thoroughly choreographed. You can see when the wounds happen. And like Demo said, they wind up wielding the other's sword by the end of the fight. You can see Luo Lang pick up Nanashi's sword if you don't blink.The wear and tear on the swords.

+Blip Blop Also, you have to wonder about the blonde guy's past. He has clearly seen multiple cultures but probably grew up in a military setting. What caused him to grow into such psychopathic tendencies? Was he sent on this mission only because of his skill with a blade, or also because having a gold-haired, blue-eyed soldier was disgraceful to his general on the mainland? I have a lot of questions, as you can see.

review shinsekai yori(from the new world) that has everything(I gather) that you like: a captivating and intriguing world, deep and flushed out characters, ominous build up, hell it even has yuri and yaoi(though the yaoi being rather unbounded turned many people off, hell it almost turned me off)... all in all it was a great show(my favorite 2012/2013) that went largely unrecognized.... it deserves more recognition...

I just recently watched this one. I thought it was pretty good, but there was to many side stories and subplots that weren't fully fleshed out. However, the main story was pretty damn great.

This review is pretty much the first and last time I'd ever hears about Sword Of The Stranger. It stayed in my mind until the film finally got a release run in the UK this year and I was able to get a hold of it. It most certainly lives up to Demo's review; a straightforward action story with a lot of heart and a hella lot of action.

Review Higurashi no Naku Koro ne (japanese with english subs... the dub is some of the worst you will ever see) -- Arguably one of the best anime of all time, that you have never done a review of. or Kokoro Connect -- plot sounds like it will be brain dead pandering, actually a good anime with some depth.

All good but "realistic" is definitely not what I'd use to describe this movie's fight scenes.
@SageVallant
@SageVallant 10 жыл бұрын
It is not hard to be "realistic" in comparison to the average anime fight. They did not wield swords larger than their bodies, they did not shout the names of their attacks, and they did not yell for 2 minutes to build up power for their attacks. It is sad that this is all you have to by anime standards to have "realistic" combat, but it is what it is. :)

Honestly this has been among my favourite animated movies of all time since I saw many years ago. It's amazing in every single way, there's nothing short in it. It's definitely my favourite animated film along with Princess Mononoke. (Also - Yes. Bones is the best studio, imo. Especially their fights / action scenes, indeed.)

so i'm really late to this party but demo I believe you missed the point of the japanese prince and daimyo characters, or at least I believe so. The fact that the love subplot and their (spoilers) Eventual deaths are shoehorned in or as my friend describes it "just.... happen" is I believe 100% intentional and is a criticism of the honor and chivalry of Japanese samurai that is heavily glorified in Japanese society and anime. Remember the daimyo talking about how he'd use his daughter to gain rank and power, and it was totally not a joke and his wife just sorta smiles and is like yeah that's good honey? It was a very awkward scene like, like in a "Wow this is a ridiculous way to view your daughter, but I can't even laugh because it's historically accurate and this character/scene is not meant to be a joke at all" type of way. Or how arrogant the daimyo was when intially fighting the blonde foreign dude? You almost root for blondie even knowing he's the bad guy. Remember how the prince just asks for the princesses' hand in marriage with zero consent on her part? Sorta shits on the whole romantic subplot thing and makes it kind of awkward doesn't it? It almost feels like they introduced it in a Disney-esque prince wants the princess way then they pull you out and are like no but really this is how it was actually like, you shouldn't like these people, they are from an outdated time. This group of people that we as Japanese(and honestly the rest of pop culture) glorify, these daimyo and samurai and princes, they are totally manipulative, racist and xenophobic, they do not respect women and their customs are simply outdated and unappealing. The daimyo is absolutely a good samurai, he fights honorably and with courage, yet what does this count for? He dies in a very abrupt manner and basically disappears. It is reminiscent of Paradise Lost; OK yeah he's very brave, has great leadership skills, and is the underdog... so what? Satan has all the qualities of a good hero, but he's still fucking Satan. Same with this daimyo. IMO this film is more than just awesome fight sequences and good characters although those are pretty good things that it has going for it. It really takes leaps and bounds in directions most animes would definitely not if you take a second look at it.

He is undoubtedly not Chinese in biology. There is no much more background story about him told in the movie. But he speaks Chinese (although his Dubbing has strong Japanese accent, It was too bad to understand for me at first) and works as a Chinese military officer in the Chinese Team. He uses Chinese blade and Chinese sword skills. However he is not loyal to the Chinese Emperor, he works for the team only in order to practice his skills and find the strongest warrior to fight with. So I assume that he must studied in China before and fight a lot of Chinese warrior and became a champion swordman in China. Then he was hired by the Emperor's team to practice this action in Japan.

Personally Demo-san, I'd like to see you give a thorough review of From The New World (Shin Sekai Yori). Very unique series and my big standout from 2012 - early 2013 too. Other things I'd like to see your take on are the Kara no Kyoukai films, Fate/Zero or maybe one of the more obscure yet interesting mecha series out there like Gad Guard...but I digress, great review here. :D

I would have been a little confused seeing a pony in my livingroom watching the news from Tv. I would think, I've finally lost my mind, to be honest. I wouldn't have any ideas how horses can walk into my house, I think I would be wery worried about it, if it broke some of the furniture, or how on earth I could get it out of the building? After that, where should I keep it while someone comes and take it?

IMO, no... It started off with promise... a hope that something deep and powerful was coming... but it remained nothing more than an annoying kids' comedy all the way until the end. I appreciate the honesty. If anything is subjective, it is comedy. I won't lie in saying that low brow comedy does appeal to me on many levels. It may be put on my backlog for a while, but I never expected it to be more than a amusing comedy.
