He keeps saying "30 some years into my career" and I kept thinking he must have been a very young child actor... I just googled him. He's 64! I'm nearly 50 and I would have guessed him to be a fair bit younger than me. Amazing. Aside from my amazement at how young he looks, his performances all were amazing.

Thank you to Dominic and Connor for this wonderful D-Con Chamber episode with the insanely talented Doug Jones! I've been fortunate to have met Doug in person at multiple conventions, and he's such a kind, genuine human being -- the nicest guy ever! I always enjoy hearing him talk about his incredible life and career. Saru is one of my favorite roles that he's played, and also one of my favorite characters in all of Star Trek.😀👍🏻👏🏻🙏🏻🖖🏻💝

The segment about the voice over really resonated with me this time. I met David Prowse whom was the original Darth Vader. And I asked him, why did you take that role? He had the opportunity to play Chewbacca. He said "I wanted a part where I could perform a verbal character as well as the physical part of it". I told him how unfortunate of a choice that was, as it was obvious it was James Earl Jones that everyone is going to think was under that helmet. (I was a kid when I said that) Reflecting back, I feel bad that I said that to him. Because it is obvious the voice over for all that it is, is sort of an insult to an actor that auditions for a part and or gets to choose a part based on the full range of being able to BE that character, and then stripped of the vocal aspect of it. At no fault of theirs. A studio that wants a voice that can be recognized world wide because of popularity of the person in question. It robs the actor playing the part of the fame they deserve. So David Hyde Pierce is phenomenal in his own right and everyone that thought he played that part was duped. From the physicality side of it. And when looking for his name in the credits and never seeing it, served to confuse everyone. Anyhow, Doug is a legend! And deserves all the kudos that come his way and more.

And respect to James Earl Jones for not wanting credit for the voice work.

I haven't watched the video yet but want to jump in here and preempt it by saying that just a few actors carried Discovery for me, and at the top of that list was Doug Jones. Brilliant character building. Just watch Saru, from the unique way he walks, runs (early episodes), and even clicks his tongue, it's amazing. I can't be sure but I doubt anyone scripted or directed that, it's all too subtle but made a huge difference in the uniqueness of the character. I wish Saru would still be captain and had his own series.

Want to ask him: If a fan crowd funded $75,000 would he choose a star ⭐ on the Hollywood Walk of Fame or for the money to go to hiring a screenwriter to develop a Hallmark script (for instance) just for him? Please like this comment to get it attention so the D-Con guys see it and maybe they'll ask him. ❤

Adore everything Doug Jones has been in. I watched Discovery for him & Michelle Yeoh. re: Silver Surfer & MCU, Marvel only recently reaquired the rights to The Fantastic Four & the X-Men (they sold the IP to a lot of things in the 90's long before the MCU), which is why they are only now looking at doing a FF & X-Men movies. Prior to that Sony had the rights. Re: Abe Sapien, Doug did the voices on Hellboy 2 & the animated Hellboy movies. LOLs, Bauston Camilleri AKA Action-Saru. The running on a carpet behind a truck trick was used in Underworld. What We Do In The Shadows, he is so much fun! I am so like Doug describing his anxiety as relating it to Saru. Doug Jones is so lovely!

Awesome show. Doug has the most FANTASTIC voice for podcasts. Hey Doug, in between movies, could you host your own show? Dont care one whit what you talk about or who you talk to...just talk or read or sing or tell dad jokes. And, of course, use those expressive hands. No, really, I'm not joking. 15 minutes to 1/2 hour Doug storytime or something. You can do so many voices...narration in podcast form could be in your future. Wish I knew how to set that up.

I spoke to Doug on Twitter in DM when Discovery started. They were getting so much hate. He was so lovely. It's a shame because the actors aren't the writers. It was the awful writers and woke activist showrunners who ruined Discovery. The actors just do as they're told

Paused the video to make this comment. In TOS Gene Roddenberry made a point of including an African American woman, a Russian and an Asian man in the cast, as characters and valued crew in positions of responsibility. This was in the 60s, barely 20 years after WWII, during the civil rights movement. There was also a story with characters who were half black and half-white. Star Trek has always been woke. That has always been the point. LLAP 🖖
@MemoirsofaGamer19829 күн бұрын
@susanscott8653 No! There's a MASSIVE difference! Being progressive and doing what Gene did helped society. Being woke is a toxic ideology. Woke is regressive. It's anti white, anti straight, anti family ideology. That thank f**k is on its way out. Woke has been rejected globally. Its an ideology that protects predators and gives people with severaly mental issues too much power. It's caused more division that any ideology on earth, as it has hit almost every country. Im a gay guy. Woke has made me feel unsafe cos woke had make people like me a target again
