First attended one of Doug's concerts in 1972. His whole band got sick that night. Doug came on stage and gave us the best 2 hour solo performance I have ever seen. The man is not only a great artist he is the real thing. Bless him.

Life time Cajun here and I been depressed for almost 25 years wonderin what the hell happen to my heritage and culture. I spent the last couple hours listening to Doug's youtube videos and he brought me out of depression instantly! One of the most unsung, underated Cajun musicians out there that hardly any Cajuns give any credit to. He don't act like he lost his Cajun roots at all. He aint chasin nothin trying to bring it back. Like a time capsule of the 70's. The dude is HAPPY! Or he snorts a ziploc bag full of cocaine every hour on the hour. Hats off to you Doug. When you comin home? Thanks Wilson. Oh and you too Steve. LOL.

We saw Doug Kershaw at Liberty Hall in Houston, Texas. What an exotic treat, that was before he was discovered by the big time., in the early 1970’s.

As did I. As well as BB, Freddie, Willis Alan Ramsey, Michael Murphy, Amboy Dukes, Springsteen, Savoy Brown, on and on. I lost the posters in a fire. That was such a COOL place. Red beans and rice, and couches!

In high school. Turned on TV at midnight. Tall skinny guy, looked like a green bean with a violent. Broke a string sawing it off. A girl with a camera on front row pointed at Doug. He broke another string. Sat down on the stage. Motioned to her give me the camera. Had time to take her picture. Very impressed with this guy. What a happy heart. Ayyyyooooooo!

I believe this music will never die. Yes today's music is total crap. But it's the crappy so called music that will bring this high quality music back. And it will be new all over again. Like you, I'm so grateful to have lived in the Times I did. Hearing this great man play and learning about the other greats as well, grandpa Jones and string bean and all the others. It will be back.

Yea, I feel the same way, how did this Louisiana music and dance culture escape us older folks. Used to attend many Louisiana & Cajun music feasts in Upstate NY & NYC. Just one event I remember of in NYC was at Connolly’s Pub (Times Square) 121 W 45th Street, NYC. However today with the NYC crime rate & non-prosecution crime policy is not a place for me to visit.

Greezy39, I ain't Cajun but I know exactly what you mean about yer roots. Same thing up here in East Tennessee Appalachians. Seems like everbody's ashamed of their heritage here too. Talk th way we wuz raised an learnt, an then ye hafta explain yerself. I'm proud of what's dyin out. Mr. Kershaw does fan a breath of fresh air. (Not airs put on) if ye know what I mean. He SOUNDS authentic instead of put on. Very few mountain music artists around here, confused fer the most part with nose singin, out pickin yer partner so called bluegrass.
