We had that same car when I was a kid, and learned to drive in it. I got to have it when my folks bought a new car eventually. One not was that ours WAS "Go Green" (or as my mom called it "Go-Go Green" which is way brighter and eye-catching that your color. It almost golowed in the dart - Couldn't miss it if you tried! Thanks for the great vid and for taking care of that treasure!

I used to own a 1971 Dodge Coronet that looked just like this one, even the same color, with the 318 engine! I let go around 1985 but it has always been one of my favorite cars! Thank you for posting this video!

The basic design lasted until 1978, by which time the car was renamed Monaco (in '77). The Satellite (later Fury) was the same basic car at Plymouth. Many Coronets and Satellites were made into police cars and taxicabs.

Satellites and Fury's were not the same and it was a Dodge Coronet the sister of the Satelite
@knowbodiesfull5768

@@johncritch6812 The Satellite and Fury _were_ the same car. The Plymouth B-body was Satellite from 1971 to 1974, and for 1975, it became the Fury. The full size (C-body) was renamed _Gran Fury_ for '75, which it remained until it was dropped after '77 (the Fury was dropped a year later). The Dodge Coronet was renamed Monaco in '77, and all the big Dodges were called _Royal Monaco._ Like the Gran Fury, the RM was dropped after '77, and the Monaco (the former Coronet) was gone after '78. Why were the Chrysler Corporation C-bodies dropped? Two words : General Motors. GM downsized their big cars, and they ate all of Chrysler's lunch. _(4/25/2023)_

My '73 Coronet was a slightly darker color: the touch-up tube was labeled JF-8, "DARK YELLOW GREEN METALLIC. The Coronet was a handsome design with a true aerodynamic profile and surface development.

That's why they did not use the Coronet Body for the Super Bee and went to the Dodge Charger instead for the Super Bee package because Coronet went to a 4 door only car

I'm glad you saved a good old survivor like that. The rallye cluster gauges are a nice option. Most vintage cars now have chrome all over the engine bay, flowmaster mufflers and big government-cheese wheels on them by the time you find them and it's a ton of time and parts hunting to get them back to stock.

I have a 71 coronet in the same color, but it's just a custom, not a Brougham. Mine's got some dents, not at all in the great shape of yours. It has a white vinyl top, no AC, a 318, drum non-power brakes, AM radio, bench seats, no lower chrome strip, the door panels are simpler on the inside, but it has a manually adjusted passenger side mirror. I love Zenith TVs and Mopar, and it freaked me out to see that you got a '71 coronet. I also love and have 4 late 60's mopar C bodies.

I remember seeing a near identical Coronet in a small town junkyard here in S.W. Nebraska years ago. It was probably crushed within a few days, as the elderly gentlemen had the crusher crew come in. Most such cars likely served their owners very well.

I have NEVER heard the story of the Dodge insignia, but I love trivia like that. You find some cool cars. Rally dash on a 318 Coronet! Strange. The door gaps are ridiculous on the car, which isn't a criticism - just reflects Chrysler assembly at the time. The best engineering, but some embarrassing fit and finish. And yes, I love the sound of the pre-74 starter motors. Interestingly, my brother's 74 cop car had the slow turning starter, whereas my dad's 74 Plymouth Fury had the fast one.

@crispiegee1 Yeah, I read about the Dodge logo on a Chrysler website and got a kick out of it myself. Now that you mentioned the gap, I took a closer look. What you're seeing is the dark green door bumpers combined with my camera being slightly underexposed which creates an illusion that the doors are excessively gapped. The fit and finish on this car is really nice though, I can't knock it. Doors close nice, not a rattle trap either.

aside from a few minor differences this is like the one my dad drove all the way in to the mid 80's, I don't think the front end was like that, though I can't be sure, same goes for the hub caps, the dash had a clock in it, that stopped working, the emblem on the front passengers dash just said coronet and the inside door panels weren't as fancy as the ones you have here, it really brings back some memories, thanks for this.

Thanks for posting. Brings back great memories. My dad had a gold one...not a Brougham (sp?)...just a standard. He taught me to drive in it. I think the hub caps may have been smaller but did have the "frazoid" or whatever. I loved the design...the way it kind of leaned forward a bit...kinda downhill. Folks used to think dad was an unmarked Maryland State Police car.....lol.

Really nice original 1971. I agree, cars should be kept the way they were ordered from the factory. If restoring is needed it always looks best restored to the original specs and not mucked around with. Not a fan of hot rods or low riders, I think they are hideous.

My mother had the 73 Plymouth Satellite 318. Fun to drive. Same stalk and wheel, and goofy looking radio. Days of numb pittman power steering. Standing still you could practically spin the wheel with your finger when parallel parking. I remember it being peppy and easy to drive compared to the huge New Yorker 440 we also had a long time ago.

Wow , my Dad had a 1968' Chrysler Newport 4dr and loved it then traded it in for a 72' Coronet SE I believe, with a smaller 318 for a little better mpg, it was Lt metallic green with med green cloth & vinyl interior and an alligator type looking green vinyl roof !!! A lot of green !!!!! Sadly the mopars of this era rusted out much faster than Ford or GM but It worked well for 4 years but by 1976 american car standards really went down and the awful 1980s cars and tech was very bad !!!!!! Thank God since the 2000s America is making good autos again ! I was in the business for 10+ years and got out of it.

@cudak888 Let's see the driver and passenger of that coronet if they have an accident with a modern cadilac or pickup truck or far, far more likely, an SUV or mini-van. While the new car would probably be in worse shape, the person in the modern car is far more likely to walk away. I LOVE old cars, especially MOPAR, but they are not safe compared to todays cars.
