Ain't it! These old cars are beautiful. I have found that many things that came from about 1930-1980 are just timeless. They are perfect anytime. I love old music, blues, jazz, funk, soul and classic rock, I love old guns especially S&W and Colt revolvers and old school wild west guns like single action revolvers, Derringers, Tommy Gun, Coach Guns, lever action rifles and so on, old TV shows and movies and of course these old cars are just so much cooler than anything that's come out in my lifetime. I was born in 81. It is my opinion that everything and everyone cool already happened back then, and ever since people have been trying to copy, steal, recreate and emulate all of it and with very very little success. Occasionally something cool comes along. I do actually like the new Challengers and even the Chargers, but I'd much rather have one from late 60's on the Charger and early 70's on the Challenger. Any day of the week.

I'm sure 7 years ago the owners swapped out the camshaft and retuned the engine.... It sounded like a dog off the line or from roughly idle to 3,000 RPMS. The exhaust note denotes the brutal strength and youth of engine. It sounded very young still and as we know, the old cylinder head designs, small valves and astounding compression gives us that beastly exhaust note we love so damn much.

You guys have to remember that Dodge back then detuned their 440's and also their standards on craftsmanship were really low! A 440 engine is 7.2 litres yet the heads of the engine flow a very small CFM! The ports on the 440 almost resemble want you would find on a small block V8! The engine is basically starving for more air flow and every thing that comes with it! Remember its a 7.2 litre engine thats getting CFM in the low 200's when it needs Cfm in the high 200-300's CFM to make the power it should make! And thanks to company's like Edelbrock and Trick Flow a 440 engine with a stock rotating assembly with a cam swap and a few iteam's to balance it all can make power from 530 hp-630 hp with stock bottom end and a upgrade top end kit! All this without the need of a super charger or turbo charger, Naturally Aspirated engine that will last a long time!

Sure enuff" and then there is the power to weigh ratio, I've out ran some beautiful old cammed up muscle cars with a nearly stock fuel injected 302 Mustang in the late 80s (on the street ) but then again I practiced ALOT on getting it out of the hole, in the guys I'm referring to would have 4 11 or 4:56 gears on street tires trying to do 3000 hole shots, I still would have traded them cars :) except for my old slow 428cj headed 390 with C6 &370's I cant even type this without smiling like I'm at a strip club, boy i miss my baby, one day 🤞

Had one back in high school in 1983 with the 4 speed 383 magnum. Sold it for $2000 dollars. Back then you could buy just about any used muscle car for $2000 or less. Most were in primer or needed some work but they were every where. Had a 65 coronet 500 also. sold it for around $1000 in 1985. Only if I would have known then what I know now. $$$$$$$$$$ But we all can say that because we all had our share of nice cars at one time or another and wished we had them back.

What year Shelby GT 500 ? What mods ? Now,below I am not saying your car is slow,I know the GT 500's haul !! But with a built 440 you should be door to door,you have a mid 70's 440 with a cam I guess..(you can make a mid 70's 440 run,I have a loaded 71 Charger RT 4200 pounds that runs 11.60's with 9.0 compression and the right parts..its not cammed,sounds stock,though they sound lumpy compared to todays cars,but I built many 73,74,75,76,77,78 440's and 400's and none ran slower than 12.75@112 mph) As a built 66-71 440 ,with heads done,larger cam,better car,good exhaust runs 11's or consisitant low 12's as stock 440's with 3.23's run high 12's bone stock out the showroom ,once you can make them hook up..I own and the original owner of one and have time slips from 1969..Even my C-Body was 1 length behind my Charger 12,87-13.01 with 295 rear tires ,14.4 with stock 215 14" tires that don't hook even at 70 !!..both quicker than my 13.08 1/4 SRT-8 Challenger,12.89 quickest with that one ..I may be old,but I can drive..and have my memory and timeslips to prove..Plus what elevation are you,I am sea level..higher up you go slower..Carb cars are effected by heat/elevation more so. What year 440,specs,compression..I am the original owner of a 1968 440 Charger RT 440 and it runs mid-high 12's stock..with good tires (skiny tire smoking through the 1/4 original stock skiny p 215 bias ply 14" tires it runs 13.50's on average..testers got 13.01-13.9 back in the day (lot of magazines that are not even posted on line today) Some testers got low 12's from a stock 440 by adding a slick that doesn't have the traction of a modern radial.. Asking about the 440 specs because over they years collecting/trading Mopar's people rebuild the engines and lowering the compression thus slowing them down,even adding high compression with a large mis matched cam slows them down.Yes,you can and I did build low compression 440's that run,but to find a builder who can is hard..They all say they can but cant.. .And adding 3' exhaust to anything less than 500 plus hp you reduce back pressure,reducing low end performance.. Plus do a compression test,Mopars run fine on 6 -7 cyl,most wont notice (as many people sell them because they don't have cash to rebuild them) and new owners think its an exhaust leak..But you lose 1/2 of your performance.. I owned many rebuilt low compression 440's,they do it so it runs on unleaded gas..(that were originally 10.25:1 when new),and they could not outrun a 318,even some big cammed 440's that couldn't outrun a 318 that runs mid-high-low 115 and low 16 sec 1/4's (318 2bbl had 2 different carbs even same model year 1 dog,1 moved good)
@01trsmar9 жыл бұрын
***** Your buddies 440 was running on 6 cyl.... Yes,true..did it sound like he had a exhaust leak ? If so it wasn't and his motor was on 6 cyl .on 6 cyl a 440 ran 14's all day long... A 440 will run 12's as even tested new back in 69 ! Remember they had skiny bias ply tires.. This 440 probably has low compression because a 77 440 with low compression with a cam and better carb will push a b body in the 13's... I have a 68 300 with a 440 tnt it runs low 13's,my 68 charger RT runs mid 12's with traction bars and wider tires,back when it was new I ran 14's some days like they tested them as they spun through 1st gear,and wouldn't hook up past 60-120 feet depending how you touched the gas pedal..I could get 13.10's with the skiny 14" tires and not flooring it past 60 feet...I added wider tires in 78 or so and would run 12.80's all the time,then every decade better tires and now its low 12's,stock 440 never rebuilt,re jetted the carb and dynomax mufflers,traction bars.. I bought both my 68's new,yes I am a old guy but still run my business and drive fast ,I feel like I am 23 and still burning rubber and your buddies 440 was shot,or he didn't hook up..I drove many 5.0 Stangs they ran 13.99-15 seconds most were 14's.. Unless your buddy ran against built 5.0's as they ran 12's back then..your buddies Charger should be 4 seconds 0-60 and high 12's in the 1/4....with street tires and a good driver....
@01trsmar9 жыл бұрын
***** Your old man didn't have a new 69 coronet RT with a 383 as they didn't come with a 383... Super bee's didnt have 440 4bbl only 440 6 packs in 69-72..Yes 72 very rare...very ,very rare..I call your B.S..Plus traction bars don't really help that much,its like having a 100 pound girl sitting in the back seat,doesnt cut down that much on traction loss...1 of a second..lol. 383 2 bbl run 14's as tested new in a 71 Challenger and 71 was a weaker 383 ,it ran 14.6 with 2.76 gears,single exhaust as all 383 2bbl were.. My brother had a Newport daily driver back in 68-77 with a 383 2bbl it was 14.8-15 all the time..as you could basically floor a 383 2 barrel car and it didn't spin a 383 4bbl ect would fry the tires thus slowing times down.. 383 4bbl run high 13's low 14's they were not the high performance Magnum/Super Commando 383's had different cam/heads and were not a 5 hp difference as usual they lied for insurance reasons.. 383 Magnum /Super Commando high perf ran low 13's 440 magnum/TNT/SuperCommando run 12's low-high 440 6 barrel run high 11's low 12's 426 HEMI run 11's..10's with just a cam/carb change ***We ran stock 426 HEMI Cuda's with 3.54 rear axle,727 automatics and ran 11.70's all day at 126 mph back in 1970...Family members owned a Chrysler dealership and my Cousin ran the Drag track ,we would go there from 1957 until the 80's when they sold the track to the new owner..so no free runs when the track was closed... My wifes back when new 318 no lean burn Volare Road Runner in 76 ran 15.5 in the 1/4 ! 318's had different 2 barrel carbs,1 lean burn smogger,then the smogger and then the 2 barrel that had power that's why some people say 318's go pretty good and some say they are slow..then she had a 77 360 2bbl Volare Road Runner it ran 15 flat !! low compression engine with a 2bbl 2.71 or so gearing..could have run 14's but only took it down once. I know old cars and Mopars run fine when on low compression..14's for a dead 440 running on 6-7 cyl 40 psi in 1 cyl 55 in another my 69 Charger RT I bought in 86 that's how it ran..alls tock,even original plugs that were fouled. Big Blocks never burn oil on start up,or idle if they burn oil you lost power.. Your buddy must of had a bad carb ,bad rebuild job if he couldn't outrun a 5.0 back in the 80's..I drove one for 3 weeks in 89 was a cobra GT 5.0 5spd and I shift like I stole it,it wasn't mine just a demo,so I know how they run.. His 440 was probably a 72-78 440....a 73-74 440 run high 13's to 15 flat and when they tested them they said they burn rubber like mad when floored easily a high 13 car as a 72 400 4bbl Road Runner run 13.8-14.2 with 3.23's,low compression smog motor. Remember some bigger carbs on a stock motor slow it down even bigger cams don't do anything when its not all matched..traction bars don't give you pure traction..People rebuilt older high compression motors to run on lower octane gas so they run the compression down thus lower power ect..Even higher compression bigger carbs will slow your car down..I ran a stock 70 383 Road Runner against a built 69 GTX 440 big ground punding cam and dueal 4's ...I blew him away !! He was 14's with traction bars,slicks..I had bias ply tires and a stock everythin and 3.23 non sure grip 1 wheel peel... Remember old recorded times are all way off because of no traction on old cars..bad tracks and parking lot tests or even DIRT ROAD performance tests ! MY 6.1 Challenger SRT cant beat my Stock 68 Charger RT,even from a 30-80 mph test ! I ran 12.76 in my 6.1 SRT with street slicks !! And 12.32 in my 68 with my M.T street slicks.. Problem is your buddy didn't buy his 71 new,and you didn't drive a 66-71 new..You don't know the history of the car...5 digit odometer after 99,999 it goes back to 0..So...add a big cam to a 440/383 if it doesn't work with your heads you are slower than stock..Hard to explain on here,wish I could take you for a ride in my stock cars...1st would be my original 1968 300 2door with a 440 tnt I bought for my wife new..it slams you in your seat,tires smoking/spinning and quicker than a 6.1 HEMI,but slower than a new Scat Pack my son has just bought...I would even take you in my 66 383 Monaco,you would be impressed as that would eat stock 5.0's in the day,was my daily ride in the 80's...and I still have it but the motor is rebuilt and its a little quicker now by half a second in the 1/4 (never took it down but it killed 5.0 Mustangs 87-93 lx coupes quickest ones with the original never touched 383 4bbl)
@jakewilliams13229 жыл бұрын
01trsmar They did come with 383's i know because my father and I actually restored one, NUMBERS MATCHING. it was the original motor and all. if you do a little bit MORE research you would know that they in fact same stock with 6.3L 383's and they even had one motor that was a little bit more beefed than the plain ol 383, it was called the super commando. ALL of the first generation (U.S. 1968 - 1971) all had 3 motor choices, they where 383, 426, and 440. even the Mexico/ Brazil B Body models came with 383's. Im not sure where your getting your facts from but i think you need to re check them lol. also to correct you on your Carb statements, your car ran whatever carb you put on it wether it be 2, 4, 3 2's, or 2 4's. it ran YOUR setup, and chrysler made cars for people back then to whatever you wanted. we have seen people restore them that had the original paperwork from chrysler that was a custom order, flat nothing. it was just a motor, suspension, drivetrain, and body. that was IT oh and the obvious paint. just because you have never seen something for your own eyes doesnt mean it isnt out there man. a car will run what you make it man, and im sure chrysler also made super bees with a 4bbl carb because like i said they came as they where ordered lol. im not saying what you havent seen isnt true, but what i know from years and years of research and getting MY hands in it and seeing for myself i can tell you that some of your mopar history is wrong, and you should get a refreshment.

Yolo Jake No 68 or 69 Coronet R/T or Charger R/T came with the 383 engine. The 440 was standard in those cars, with the Hemi being otional. The 383 Magnum was standard in the Super Bee for 68 and 69, with the Hemi being optional in 68, and the 440 6 pack and Hemi optional in 69. If the car in this video is a real Super Bee, it should have the Charger instrument panel. This car has does not.
