Doug’s take on this for a *general* consumer is perfect. Get it if there’s a good deal. By the time the lease is up, Honda will have their own electric car model out. If you’re really picky, cross shop with the other cars like the Mach E. For those who read into more details, there are some well known and lesser known advantages of the Honda/Acura over its competitors, and even against its siblings in GM. 1. Apple CarPlay and Android auto. As Doug already mentioned, GM will not have that as an option for any of their vehicles. 2. Resale value. The Prologue will be worth more at the end of a lease versus the Blazers or Equinox equivalent, just because it says Honda. 3. Materials and quality. Doug mentioned that it is about the same as Chevy, but Honda actually adds a lot more testing and validation for its components. Despite the cars being assembled in a GM factory, there are specific engineers from Honda assigned to each model. Additionally, Honda only uses proven materials like genuine leather. Synthetic leather is exclusively used by Tesla, and most GM models. Of course, the prologue still has stiff competition from other brands and I don’t think these points are enough to sway everyone or anyone cross shopping.

Because it is electric the power is always on tap and you don't have to wait for the transmission to kick down and the engine to rev, it just goes. I like that it looks like a normal vehicle. Not overstyled or weird looking with creases and fake vents everywhere. There's not another EV that I really like the styling TBH. The new 3 looks good on the outside but no way do I want a vehicle that has almost all functions through the touch screen. Nor do I want buttons for the turn signals. It's hard enough getting used to the wipers being on the left along with the cruise settings. I like the buttons on the back of the steering wheel for forward and back for songs and volume but am still getting used to that. On top of that a $300 a month lease with no money down is super cheap.

We didn't want a car that looked like a spaceship and it's plenty quick for the average person's needs. It took about a day to get used to the GM-style controls which was no big deal. Lastly, the grippy surfaced area right below the climate controls is great for phones, a pair of glasses or anything else you might be taking with you. It may not look luxurious but it's super useful.

Just listened to the most recent podcast and Doug calls out people commenting on his Instagram saying “the rx350 isn’t good because the x5 is faster to 60”. How is that different from this? Some people (arguably most) don’t care about 0-60 times. 6-8 seconds is more than adequate. Doug - be more consistent and stop berating cars you personally don’t like only to turn around and say people who do that to you “don’t understand real consumers”

Doug you should do a poll on which type of automatic shifter is best, with a large audience it would be interesting to see which type people prefer. A-rotary dial, B-column mechanical, C-column digital, D-push buttons, E- center console mechanical.
@volvo094 ай бұрын
I've always liked "B" column shifts in automatics, especially for sedans and trucks. Frees up space for more useful purposes than touching it 2 times during the average trip. Not a fan of pushbuttons because I've learned most of those still use a motorized module on the transmission to move a shaft, rather than you doing it by shifting from park. Just one more thing that can leave you stranded.

On a side note, if Honda were to make another EV, I would like them to revive the 1st gen Insight styling with 200-250 miles of range at minimum. The newer Insight looked too much like the Civic, so I would like to see the cool, aerodynamic styling that made the 1st gen look futuristic. A 2 seat, fastback design would suffice for me.
@KNRS9274 ай бұрын
They could bring that back as a Tesla Roadster competitor, put in a Hummer EV size battery and power, and call it an Acura. If pricing and styling are right, that’d be a cool Halo car.

they have another EV, the E:NP1, same range, for less than half price, in Asia it costs about 18-22k. And also, the tiny Honda-e in Europe and Asia, but battery pack and range suck.

Why are brands slowly getting rid of rear badges for the name spelt out instead? Surely this is more expensive than a single badge? It's a trend I've been noticing for last couple of years as more manufacturers begin do it, and now Honda have joined in. I thought the goal of badges was to get famous enough that people recognise your brand without spelling it out. Maybe this is no longer the case?
@Lorentz_Driver4 ай бұрын
It's a case of "uniqueness" and a subversion of brand recognition. Their logo is recognizable at this point, so spelling out their brand subverts usual design language and instills a sense of premium-ness.
@JradsEdits4 ай бұрын
Very good point. I can probably name a dozen cars doing this now and I have no idea why it’s a new trend.
@Flared4 ай бұрын
@@Lorentz_Driver I guess that makes sense, but there are examples where the cars were not premium at all. Older Toyota pickups all used to have "TOYOTA" spelled out on their tailgates. Never saw that as a premium vehicle. It also stops being unique when they all start doing it. Then it will come full circle and the badges will return lol.
@DanVibesTV4 ай бұрын
my guess is that it has to do with the Chinese market that every brand wants to get into. and in that market, people might not actually know how to spell various brands. so they need to be "educated". and then they can search for them online, and hopefully buy one.
