I’m from Germany and I would so much love to drive through the US, especially the West Coast, but also the deserts, from Vegas, to Arizona, through Texas and through the swamps down to the Keys. However, for you, it’s like a 9 to 5 thing I guess. So funny, how perspectives change depending on the side you are on. Sometimes, when I’m doing over 150 mph on our Autobahn, I think about my friends from foreign countries that always freaked out when they experienced this. Glad that Mercedes didn't make any radical changes of its exterior styling (especially when it comes to aerodynamics). It looks recognizable and kept the design language of what the G-wagon looked like since it was introduced in the early 80s. More manufacturers should do this design approach if they don't want to completely change the look of a vehicle just because of the aerodynamics. One other example of this is the Ford F-150 Lightning still looks like an F-150, but the Silverado EV looks more like an Avalanche than the ICE version of the Silverado.

The G rumble is due to regulations - in some countries EVs have to produce a sound (of a manufacturer's choice) at low speeds so that pedestrians can hear them coming. Above more or less 15mph the tires are usually louder than the engine, so that sound is turned off. This one sounds like a industrial AC unit or diesel generator though, weird choice if you ask me.

The battery will probably outlast the absurdly overbuilt V8s in the normal G-class, especially given how the average g-class driver treats their cars.
@tomh947027 күн бұрын
@@VelkePivo Here’s the deal…the average American motorist’s biggest concern about EV adoption is currently the cost to replace the battery. Why? Because, whenever an EV battery fails, it gets news attention…the news says, “It’s gonna cost $7K or $20K” on a 2 year old EV with 17K miles. Hmmmm…EV batteries are warranted for 8 years, 100K miles…MINIMUM. So, was this a used/abused car? Or, a car modified in such a way that battery life was impacted? If a gas vehicle blows an engine at 17K miles, nobody hears about it. It’s not news, unless it’s an EV. Bottom line: Conditioned batteries (in just about every EV after the original Nissan Leaf) can last 20 years, 800K miles under ideal conditions. Will they all last that long? No, definitely not. But most will last over 10 years or 120+K miles, even under somewhat abusive conditions, like frequent fast charging to 100%. If you educate yourself & use common sense in your charging practices, an EV battery/motor will outlast 99.99% of ICE cars.

@@tomh9470 I don't know how it is in the US, but in Germany, the _average_ age of the cars on the road is about 12 years. Gas powered cars have proven to last about 20 years if serviced properly and not abused. In addition, everyone experienced degrading Li-Ion batteries in Laptops, Smartphones, MP3 players etc after only a few years. That's why people are concerned about battery lifetime.
