I’m usually a stickler for “sell outs”, but I have no idea what people are talking about. Jeep gave him the opportunity to review their car. It is still 100% his script and he says what he wants. More importantly, Doug being paid more means an even cooler or more Doug cars.
@promontorium6 жыл бұрын
No it doesn't. And he wasn't paid, he was put up. This is industry standard and doesn't save bad cars from bad ratings. Car reviewers don't inflate car reviews because they got to sleep in a hotel. Movies bring in critics to view films early, do critics go easy on the films? Sure as shit not. Usually if a company knows their product is crap, they don't go the extra mile to bring in critics.
@Meekerextreme6 жыл бұрын
How is he being biased? I doubt a room and food changed his views hell he even told you they put him up and brought him out. I bet Car & Driver doesn't tell you that or Road&Track etc etc I'm not a huge Doug fan but nothing is wrong here.

This is crazy, I'm a cook at the Ritz Carlton, Dove Mountain in Tucson where Doug stayed. Unbelievable how many "sellout" comments there are in this video, presumably from people who don't understand that EVERY REVIEW of the Jeep Wrangler was filmed the same way -- Jeep flew people out to review the car. The difference is, I disclose this fact and they do not. I think in the future I simply won't disclose it.
@ChuckKnowledge6 жыл бұрын
I disagree +Doug DeMuro, you've got to disclose just like you did. Your followers appreciate your honesty and the fact that you liked the car is legit. I think the quirks like bolt storage are worth talking about - and you're the only person I'd expect to cover that kind of thing, although I'm sure the corporate baby-sitters are pointing everything out to all the attendees. This video doesn't change my opinion of you, and I trust that if you hadn't have liked the vehicle you'd have said so. I like that you never play up for the camera or manufacture unnecessary drama. I'm most pleased you get invited to this sort of thing now because I've watched you build yourself up. Don't go changing.

I really think that the Doug score is lacking a 'fun factor' in the weekends category. It is now heavily biased toward ultra fast new sports cars. A fun factor would give cars that are special like the Ferret tank, the Isetta and even the wrangler a higher weekend score, because lets be honest, you would rather take that for a spin in the weekends than a Bolt. It would even give oldtimers a fairer place in the category, I mean: I would much rather drive a Ferrari 348 in the weekends then a BMW M5. Like if you agree so the man himself sees it!

I never go crazy off-road because it is my only mode of transport. If I break it, I don't have a car. Props to the designers on these jeeps. The amount of effort that went into making a vehicle for the consumer that can be customized using factory parts already equipped is outstanding. I think this all new design will ensure that jeep has a solid foot hold in the market for another 30 years. P.S. I was really hoping that the amount of customization that is available from factory would help the " Doug Score ".

Love the jeep, but why isn't anyone talking about the frame welds cracking? Jeep JL Earlier this month, Fiat Chrysler announced a recall for over 18,000 2018 and 2019 Jeep Wranglers because failing welds were causing a critical suspension mounting bracket to detach from the frame. Now we have the instructions for how Fiat Chrysler plans to fix the bad frames, which the company said could cause some Jeeps to “crash without prior warning.” Between May 7, 2018 and Aug. 21, 2018, Jeep’s Toledo North Assembly Plant used frames with an “off seam [track bar] weld location” to build up to 18,055 new Jeep Wranglers. The result, Jeep says in its NHTSA Safety Recall Report, is that likely around 720 vehicles (4 percent of the recall population) have track bar brackets that could potentially “[separate] from the frame.” This sounds like something you’d never really want to happen to your vehicle for a number of reasons, but Jeep identifies that it could possibly lead to reduced steering response and even a crash. Fiat Chrysler previously told Jalopnik that it planned to inspect all 18,000+ vehicles, but now-thanks to dealer service instructions posted to a Jeep JL owner’s Facebook page-we know how the company will actually fix the roughly 720 cars it expects to find with bad welds. The first step for dealers is to lift the vehicle and check out the build date code on the frame. If that number is greater than or equal to 126 and less than or equal to 156, then the vehicle was built in the May 7, 2018 to Aug. 21, 2018 window, and its owner should be offered a loaner car as the Jeep gets inspected further. Vehicles with frame codes in that range will then have their track bar bracket welds-both the inboard and outboard ones-cleaned. From there, with the steering wheel cranked to the left to help give better access, dealers will paint the vehicle’s three-digit VIN to the outboard frame bracket, and take a picture of both welds like so: Those pictures, along with the frame build date code, the vehicle’s VIN, and the dealership’s information, will be sent to a “Track Bar customer care representative,” who will take a close look at the welds’ positions. If the representative looks at the photos and determined that the welds are in the right spot, then the Jeep is all set, and no repair will take place. But if he or she finds one or both of the welds to be out of place, dealers will arrange to have a “Technical Weld Specialist” come to make the weld repair. But before that can happen, the dealer has to take some stuff apart. To prep the outboard weld to be repaired by the weld specialist, dealers are asked to disconnect the battery before lifting the Jeep, remove the left front wheel, undo the track bar nut and bolt shown above, and then take the track bar off of the poorly-welded bracket on the frame. From there, Fiat Chrysler says its “Technical Weld Specialist will perform the repair on the outboard weld.” There are no further details on how exactly the specialist will conduct the fix, but clearly the job will involve welding that bracket back onto the frame somehow. Fiat Chrysler told me via email simply: “Weld will be made to comply with specs.” Once the weld specialist’s job is done, dealers will bolt the track bar back onto the frame (with a new nut and bolt), throw the wheel back on, lower the Jeep, torque down the track bar nut to spec, and then give the vehicle back to the customer. That is, unless the inboard weld also needs to be fixed. Repairing the inboard weld is significantly more involved than fixing the outboard one. In addition to lifting the Jeep and removing the left front wheel, the air dam has to be taken off, and four steering gear mounting bolts have to be removed (to get the steering gear box away from the bracket weld location) after the track bar has been unbolted from the frame bracket: Each sway bar link’s lower nut and bolt also have to be taken out, likely to get the sway bar out of the way. Then, by grabbing the right front wheel and turning it, the vehicle’s wheels need to be pointed to the rightmost position. This will pull the steering gear away from the frame, and thus away from track bar bracket to give better access to the inboard weld. That’s when the Technical Weld Specialist will perform the inboard weld repair, or possibly replace the entire bracket. With that done, dealers will grab the front right tire, and turn the steering linkages to the leftmost position in order to line the steering gear back up with the mounting holes in the frame. New bolts will then be threaded into the steering gear and torqued down. A new bolt will hold the track bar into the newly-welded (and possibly entirely new) bracket, and new bolts will be used to hook the bottoms of the sway bar links back to the steering knuckles. The wheel will go back on and get torqued to spec, then the vehicle will be lowered, and the sway bar and track bar bolts will be tightened. Once dealers install the air dam, do an alignment, and check the work via a test drive, the Jeep will be all fixed and ready to go back to the customer. Jeep lists how much time dealerships can bill to each procedure in the table below: So if you’ve got a 2018 or 2019 Jeep Wrangler affected by the recall, now you know what type of surgery might be in its future.

Hey man, would you mind telling me the pros and cons so far? did you get a hardtop? And how’s the cabin noise? Thanks.
@apolonioman54795 жыл бұрын
FewRie yeah fam, I got the color matching hard top. Yeah, there’s a shit load of noise on the road. Nothing compared to the JK though (Had a lot of more noise). The ride is smoother than the previous model. I test drove the JK many times. The JL felt right. However, my model didn’t come with the headliner which helps eliminate noise. I’m thinking about buying that online sometime later for it. It’s the little things that make your ride better. The pros, it’s really fun. I got mine all white and I turn a lot of heads. I get tons of compliments also. Makes me feel like I made the right choice. It’s also roomier than I expected. I pack a lot of gear and there’s enough room for everything. As for the cons, well, besides the noise it’s not that bad of a ride. It’s a good thing you’re looking into that because it’s a huge turn off for a lot of people. Test drive one! And do it more than once. At first it felt off driving at highway speeds because it’s not aerodynamic in the least. Another con is that it’s like a lego! And legos are expensive once you start building. I’ve already added many modifications to my wrangler it’s genuinely badass mate. I got a 2.5” lift to comfortably fit 35s and the ride is nearly like stock still. I’m very happy and I feel like there’s nothing I can’t do in this thing. Fee free to ask anything else. Hopefully this helps. Best of luck!

Thanks bro! The 35s add gotta be my favorite mod to this car, it just gives it much more personality. I hope you enjoy every bit of owning the Wrangler, and always remember, have fun but not too much fun, because safety is always the number one priority! 👍

I work for Jeep and this thing is bad ass. Ill be honest its too Dodge Nitro for me but give it a couple years then buy it. The issue is Fiat has too much influence on design and increase in price may cripple its appeal to most consumers. Also if something is not broke don’t fix it. (Example) Power window controls..... Otherwise we take building these in Toledo very seriously. Feedback on videos like this go a long way in future designs.

Don't be a jackass. I'm not talking about stocks and bonds. in·vest·ment an act of devoting time, effort, or energy to a particular undertaking with the expectation of a worthwhile result. "the time spent in attending a one-day seminar is an investment in our professional futures" synonyms: contribution, surrender, loss, forfeiture, sacrifice When you can get a prepaid phone for $20 that serves the purpose of a phone just fine, $1200 is quite an investment. I see so many dumb asses that buy the newest iPhone, don't put a case on it, crack the screen the first time they drop it, then have have to pay 200-300 to have the screen replaced. All because they were more concerned with having the newest premium looking device than keeping their money safe.
@RingoYote6 жыл бұрын
NO ONE CARES no its not, Investment implies there will be a return over time and it can make money, Cars are investments because some hold their resell value, Phones lose their value every year, example, a 2 year old IPhone can be purchased for 50 bucks
@Shadowborg6 жыл бұрын
Jesus Christ you fuckers are taking shit too literally. Every time some one says investment it doesn't literally mean a monetary investment you expect to make a return on. You invest extra money in having a premium phone, a shitty investment yes but it's an investment nonetheless .You invest extra money in a Lexus over a Toyota because you want a nicer car. You invest extra money in a Gibson over an Epiphone because you want a better guitar. You invest time and money into a pet because you want a companion. You invest time and money into a relationship because you want a life partner. Any of these things can have a good or bad outcome. Expensive phones result in a monetary loss, but you get the "payoff" of having the "best" smart phone experience. Any resource you have (time, money, energy), and then spend expecting a worthwhile outcome is an investment. Hell, you invest energy getting out of bed, in hopes that today will be a good day. Even if I'm a dumb ass and used the wrong word, the point is still the same. He has a naked ass 1200 dollar phone and makes fun of people that want to protect their, to use synonyms from that definition i posted earlier, contribution, surrender, loss, forfeiture, and sacrifice of spending that extra damn money.

This looks like a Patriot with some flared fenders. The blind spot thing confirms it.

"I actually think this is the first Jeep that would really appeal to most non-Jeep people." The Jeep Wagoneer was too, to some extent.

Scorr Paulson th "Jeep thing" is off roading. The wrangler has always been the best bang for your buck off-road vehicle with the largest aftermarket. Anyone who got a Wrangler and doesn't hit the trails regularly bought the wrong vehicle. It's a off-road vehicle that can be driven on road, and even daily driven if you don't care about all the creature comforts.

Im a big fan of your video but you throw the G class under the bus for have things that stick out of the body or door hinges or hinges on the hood and the army style interior grab handles and you didn’t criticize the jeep for having the same things? For having plastic parts? For maintaining the same structural design ever since it was created? That seemed really unprofessional and this seemed more like an ad for jeep than a review.
@nathongriffin23746 жыл бұрын
King Codex Mercedes G wagons are luxury vehicles and for paying 3x the amount of money then a Jeep I would expect nothing but the best. While for Jeep it’s a more of rugged vehicle and Jeeps need these things such as outside hinges to keep its iconic features such as taking off the doors. Something you wouldn’t do in your G wagon. As for structural design it always been in the Jeeps heritage to maintain it. It’s been like that for almost a century.
@galardo19956 жыл бұрын
The g wagon was an army car just like the jeep and they both go for the same tough and bulky look. and also when you pay 3 times as much money you dont get plastic and you actually get a car that lasts more than 6 months. The jeeps transmission will fail after 4 months and the engine will break down in less than that. yes, keep the structural design the same, so why would he complain about it in the G wagon and not in the jeep. His views were bias and subjective. and as for the door hinges on the g wagon they are actually functional. the idea is to keep the look of the g wagon the same as it was before so the nonsense problems that he mentioned in previous video should have been said about the jeep but no.
@saadqureshi71276 жыл бұрын
King Codex same price? Lol or Not. The g wagons Go for 150-200k vs a New fully loaded wrangler at 50k. And for that price range you do expect the best quality. We all know jeep is full of plastic.

In the Wrangler, do you get the distracting reflections on the side windows like as he (Doug) complained in his review of that biturbo V12 G-wagon?

1 or 2 for accelerating from 0 to 60 in 6 seconds. Wow Doug must be driving rockets.

ngamer007 Don't know if I believe that. The 2017 Civic Type R barely breaks 6 seconds flat.

it occurred to me I have, in my "Drag timer" app, 0-60 KPH time... I got 7.4 seconds, though I think that was on a slight incline, so maybe 6.5s on a completely flat surface? And that is only 0-37 MPH

Love how the front windshield still folds down and rests on those “hood handles”. Folded since 1941 to be shipped overseas. Great to fold down on the beach. You didn’t cover the drain holes in the passenger and driver foot wells. 😅

your scoring system seems to be all over the place. they dont change the styling at all and you give it a 5 near average. then you give the acceleration a 2 because its "only" 6 seconds 0-60? thats a fairly average 0-60 time, i dont know why you scored it a 2. thats like well below average/horrible. i usually just skip your scoring system for this reason. depending on if you've drove a hellcat or a lambo beforehand you tend to rate normal cars much lower.
@97I30T6 жыл бұрын
John Sullivan 6 seconds to 60 mph is actually a bit quicker than average. I would say the average car on sale in America today does 0-60 in 7-8 seconds which makes his scoring for acceleration seem even more flawed.

6 seconds in a wrangler? To me that's actually astonishing because the older ones with the 3.8 did it in like 9

John Sullivan his 0 to 60 scoring doesnt change based on the type of car, he has set times for scores.

I have a 2012 JK, stick-shift, two-door, and I absolutely love it. The ergonomics are terrible, and so is the gas mileage, but as a Jeeper I feel like, as he said, Wrangler owners have to make sacrifices. I went to the LA Auto Show in December and was very unimpressed with the 2018 JL. Same engine ("retuned," but still) as mine, and 90% looks the same, inside and out. Well this video makes me want a 2018 so badly. I think now I see how many little improvements have made it overall a better car, perhaps more than the sum of it's parts. I'm at a point where it's time to decide if I want to invest 4-10K into my JK and keep it for life or have a car payment again (Ugh!!!) and go in on a brand new JL. Thoughts? EDIT: This asshole gave it a six out of ten on features and a "cool factor" of five???! He does know you can take the doors off and go up and down mountains, right?

Waiting for the diesel engine hopefully 2019 I would never compare It to a 2wd car and even less a sport(million dollar coupe) 6 second 0-60 doesn't deserve a 1 or 2.
