Mario Lemieux played almost his whole career suffering injuries and illness that would have ended most of us, and he still managed to be one of the greatest ever.

Toronto's Bobby Baun most famously broke his leg in the deciding game of the 1964 Stanley Cup Final against the Detroit Red Wings. He returned to the game in time to score the OT winner for the Leafs, clinching the Stanley Cup. Further note about Paul Kariya: it's not just Game 6 that he has no memory of. He has no memory of game 6, the three days between games 6 & 7, Game 7, and the three days after. Even today, long after he's retired, he still suffers from concussion headaches. Sportsnet did a feature on him a couple years ago. Link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iGLPZGSKdpWAgqM

Patrice Bergeron had to miss part of a Stanley Cup Final game to be rushed to the hospital but was back by the end of the game. It was one of the games in Chicago, I think maybe game 5. It was related to the punctured lung. Guy is a warrior.

Hockey players are the toughest athletes anywhere. What these players go through is amazing. Especially in the playoffs , no player wants to sit out any games so they'll play through incredible pain. Patrice Bergeron played in the finals with 2 broken ribs , a collapsed lung , and something else, I can't remember what. They used to get stitched up on the bench , with no freezing. Eddie Shore once had his ear almost completely torn off , it was just hanging there. He had them stitch it back on with no freezing. Terry O'Reilly dislocated two shoulders , had them popped back in place and strapped ,and played the rest of the game. Duncan Keith getting a puck in the mouth and losing 7 teeth , not falling down but finished his shift and the game. There are countless stories like these. Not to mention the multitude of broken noses , lost teeth , pucks to the face , these guys are tough.

Boxers and MMA fighters go through this pain all thier life
@JohnA8913 жыл бұрын
@@okay1775 No, they really don't. The MOST fights ANY MMA fighter has ever had in a year is...... five, and only 5 MMA fighters have even done that. On average they fight 2 or 3 times a year. So even the most active fighter gets an average of more than 2 months off between fights, normal fighters get 6 months off. NHL players get an average of 1 or 2 DAYS off between events (every other night through the playoffs, and an average of 3 games per week in the regular 82 game season). No MMA fighter has EVER gotten into the ring with a broken jaw, nose, rib, knee, hand or foot BEFORE the fight started, they may have finished that way, but they sure as hell didn't start that way. Hockey players do it every night.
@okay17753 жыл бұрын
@@JohnA891 Pretty much everything you said were lies lol. Mma fighters fight twice or thrice a year but they spar every week. There's no fighter that doesn't spar and studies have showed that sparring causes more concussions than fights. And fighting with a broken jaw, broken ribs, knee and ribs is a weekly occurance. It's so common. Infact these happen mid fight. Colby Covington broke his jaw against Kamaru Usman and fought 5 minutes with a broken jaw. That's one of the 1000 examples. Michael Bisping fought with a broken rib in his fight against GSP(who also btw is partially blind. He lost his eye after a headkick). Broken foot is also a common injury that fighters fight with.

I heard some announcers during a hockey game, mentioning that player with ankle injuries, will do almost anything to avoid having to take off their skates, because, as soon as they're off, the foot swells up, and they can't get it back on, so they can't get back in the game.

In the case of Jonathan Quick's herniated disk, apparently he wasn't really in that much pain while playing. Awkwardly, he couldn't sit. Putting on his gear was extremely painful and there are stories of him getting into heated discussions with flight attendants on team charter flights because he couldn't sit in aircraft seats prefering to lay on the floor during takeoff and landing. Probably not review worthy but here's a vid you might be interested on injuries and scars in hockey. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ranJoYOwgrlogpI

Just more crazy examples of how incredibly tough hockey players are! ~ I knew about Karlsson because I'm a huge fan of his, and I was actually able to watch that playoff series (which was tough b/c the Pens are my team, lol). ~ I've had disc issues for years and sometimes can't move without crying or having no sensation in my right leg - it's insane that Quick was able to do all that he had to as a goalie! ~Bonino the beast! I think John Wick must've also been a hockey player.... He is a man of focus, commitment and sheer will!" lol

This here --> kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5nQm6yGlqdqbas is a short 4 minute interview from CBC News in 2019 with Mike Vernon talking about his early days with the Flames and winning Calgary's only Stanley Cup. Not really for a reaction, just thought you'd be interested since Calgary is your team. Mike was the goalie who fought Patrick Roy in the Avalanche vs Red Wings game infamously known as The Brawl In Hockeytown in 1997 and he also had his number retired by the Flames.

A big miss on his part was bobby baun, I'm no leafs fan but this man played on a broken leg and scored the game winning goal, Then there is paul coffee who wore skates sizes smaller than his feet and would get his feet broken, then there is my Favorite Stevie Yzerman who carried his team to a stanley cup with basically no knees! If you go back and watch the 2002 redwings cup highlights you'll see him wincing in pain and barely able to get up, he scored big goals and inspired his team to level up and give their all, the other teams knew he was playing injured and hit him hard every chance they got, he still got up and played and get revenge by putting up points
