Of course, he shouldn't have made it, and more to the point shouldn't have been forced to make it, but it's so obviously insincere and sycophantic, what value is there to it in anyone's eyes but those who want to force people to say things that they don't really feel or believe. This is the standard of public debate now, people being forced to make bland and hollow statements written by a PR firm just to keep their job, what have the great British traditions of debate and dialectic come to.

Murray's first response regarding the bashing of the crickteer's youthful indiscretion: "It was a 'retributive' gesture." Don't you just love Murray's speaking vocabulary? Of course, in the culture wars, the neo-Marxists would argue that a learned vocabulary is evidence of "white privilege," aided and abetted by "systemic racism." If Murray worked for the Coca-Cola Company, he would be enjoined to be "less white" and enrolled in "re-education classes" like a peasant caught reading The U.S. Declaration of Independence in China. As for Boris defending British tradition -- of course, he should. The failure of Western leaders to affirm and enforce our cultural standards of behavior and learning is what got us into this jolly quagmire in the first place. We simply need to elect officials with the "cajones" to do it.

The Magdalen MCR is the 'Middle Common Room'. This man must have been to Cambridge or something.

Douglas Murray always spot on.

He sounded like a 6 year old kid reading a script out for his school play. It wasn't sincere, so it holds no value. Just another pointless action to try and salve the conscience of a celebrity and their masters and avoid loss of revenue from social cancellation... Nothing more than pointless virtue signaling 👏

Who without sin cast the first stone. We all have something in our past we regret we did or said. No one is pure of heart. I felt for him

I am almost tempted to encourage Mr Murray to become an MP but I wouldn't want to see his integrity, common sense, moral fibre, balanced views and opinions becoming soiled.

Anne Marie Waters has more to say about today's politics than Douglas Murray. When is The Spectator going to interview her?

Douglas Murray is analytically brilliant.

@@FiveLiver Do you really think saving the West is going to be a one man show?
@FiveLiver3 жыл бұрын
@@cloudybeforerain7134 Oh right that absolves him making an effort, he's an editor as well as a writer. Why isn't he doing something more than being interviewed himself? He was on GB News talking about the Bately and Spen by-election, and the 'blasphemy' case there, and STILL didn't even mention Anne Marie Waters or For Britain. The mind boggles at his selectivity!

Poor lad already started off at a disadvantage, having a name almost identical to a civil servant regarded as a traitor by many. I don't normally bother with cricket much, but I was so disgusted with the way he was humiliated on public TV that I've been thinking about the meanness of it ever since. Then to find out that he had been about to represent his country for the first time but was dropped despite the humiliation; and that the tweets had been made years ago when he had been a teenager, you have to wonder how many on the board get a very unhealthy kick out of inflicting pain on others for lapses they have actually spent time and effort uncovering. Perhaps the spotlight should move onto them next.

@Pinned by The Spectator Just wondering why my comment appears to be the only one that was replied to with this invitation - and feeling ever so slightly suspicious that it might not really be from The Spectator?
