Douglas Murray slams ‘triumphant’ officers for ‘bullying’ an autistic girl

Author Douglas Murray says the police officers who arrested a distraught autistic girl for an alleged homophobic slur did not seem to let human empathy occur in their perspective.
“You could see there at the end, that deeply unpleasant female officer looking like she is triumphant,” Mr Murray told Sky News host Rita Panahi.
“Well done for intimidating and bullying this poor girl who didn’t do anything wrong.”

But it does matter that she is autistic and is part and parcel why their behaviour was so wrong. The Police have a duty of care and a responsibility to de-escalate. The fact that they failed to de-escalate set off a meltdown that led to the self-harm, all of which was predictable and caused by their behaviour during the arrest. So yes, nobody should be arrested for making an observation, but if they do make an arrest and take into custody it has to be for a valid reason. So it is also about the fact they failed in their duty of care towards the girl especially as they are aware of her autistic and as such is owed a greater duty of care. One more point can you imagine the police doing this in a middle-class leafy area of Leeds because I can't. It's long past time we had a discussion about what policing by consent means because I, for one, do not consent.

No they shouldn't. They should indeed be questioned as to why they perceived there to be a hate crime but your suggestion of sacking is nonsense. Sack them all for mistakes, then you'd have nobody policing your streets.
@ComfyCherry

@@mabozar15 there needs to be a zero tolerance policy on abuse of power (I'm generally not a fan of zero tolerance but when it comes to those in power there is too much at risk to allow for any tolerances), there are plenty of decent cops to take their place, while I'm not sure on the power dynamic in this situation (bare minimum the highest authority involved in an abuse of power should be either demoted to lowest rank with increased requirements for promotion or complete removed from service and never allowed back in), from what it looks like the woman should be fined, if not jailed, and barred from further service.
@mabozar15
@mabozar15 11 ай бұрын
@ComfyCherry you have determined that there is an abuse of power rather than considering that there may just have been an error of judgement. I'd suggest novice officers who haven't fully considered their actions and had a lack of experience to apply better decision making. You however, treat this as a henious act similar to assault or robbery and haven't considered much else. The previous call they attended could have had them finding a vulnerable person but I guess you don't consider getting online to support good actions. You do however, think there is a revolving door of people queuing up to get such abuse, from the online experts such as yourself who must clearly believe therefore that the police can just instantly replace people even when their numbers are probably drastically low already. Instead, start again with zero experience. A sensible suggestion should have been that these officers need to have been trained better and reprimanded for their poor judgement. Jailed for arresting someone and doing their job (poorly) is truly farcical.
@ComfyCherry
@ComfyCherry 11 ай бұрын
@@mabozar15 nah this was definitely an abuse of a power, they arrested someone (an autistic kid at that) for saying they looked like their lesbian grandma that's not a mistake that's abuse of power also you definitely have a high opinion of yourself if you're gonna talk like that. also also never once implied they'd get replaced just that there would be existing officers to fill their role not new ones, less but better cops is preferable to alot of shitty ones. also also also idk what the brit cops training is like but garbage will always slip through the cracks, training just minimises it, though from what I've seen of brit cops somewhat lately they could probably do with more yes. finally, this was in response to a specific statement not a general comment, so obviously it's not going to have every detail possible... you have issues

These people have a gang mentality and use gays to excuse their behaviour. They do the same with Jews. It's like pre-emptive scapegoating. I always advise the groups they pick out for this special treatment to have a not in our name counter movement. They're deliberately redirecting the anger created by their actions onto others. This also gives strong evidence toward them being guilty in the first degree. If I were the one prosecuting those police officers in court it would be devastating. People with Asperger's Syndrome can often analyse things very deeply to the point of when its people tearing them apart and digging all the way down to the deepest recesses of what might as well be their soul.

I think we should try to keep in mind that this is the Yorkshire police. There are other police forces. However this is the general direction of travel for most and it's not going to stop me teasing the next police officer I see by asking them if it's true that they're a lesbian and that sort of thing. Shaming people and not letting them make an example out of people is important. I won't stand up for this kind of thing, I wont be intimidated, they can do their worst, I'll still do it. The social contract is broken. I'm very law abiding when the law makes sense and is worthy of respect such as not stealing and things like that. In this case we're no longer a country of law. We're a country of thuggery and over sensitive knobheads. I'm also "autistic" though I think that label is abused a lot now. I have Asperger's Syndrome which for most intents and purposes shouldn't be treated the same as what we used to consider autism a few decades ago which is something very severe relatively speaking. I don't think that this girl should get special treatment purely because she's autistic. Obviously that makes it even worse but it's not acceptable for the cops to treat anyone like this especially when it's the common man who is ultimately paying their wages. The cops are supposed to work for the people as they're the ones paying for them. If they're not, that's slavery. Slavery is most intolerable in Britain.

I served as a police officer for 23 years in Australia and over the last 3 years the behaviour of Police towards reasonable people has appalled me. During COVID here in Australia Police arrested and handcuffed a pregnant young lady for facebook posts. This example is disgraceful. Police are there to serve and protect the community from REAL harm, not hurt feelings. The degeneration of Police management in my opinion has led to this circus. Corridor creeping cowards are promoted over hard arse police and this is the rubbish you get. This behaviour destroys public trust in the police which is extremely dangerous. Real criminals are laughing in this clown world.
