I sincerely hope that you are right about Canadians. My experience and observations here in Canada tell me a different story. Canada has gone through a profound cultural and political shift over the last 55 years. The entire country has been moved politically to the left to the point that if the Conservative Party of Canada wants to be elected, it has to cater to the "swing voters" and hence follow the leftist playbook. Most Canadian Institutions have been captured in one form or another by the " woke" identitarian ideology. Most Canadians do not recognize it as an ideology because for at least 3 generations it has been sold to them as what it means to be a good Canadian. It is now at the heart of the Canadian identity.

It was Catholicism that kept islamism out because it is the antithesis to it. The secularisation of our society has created a spiritual vacuum and allowed islamism in. I’m sure Douglas Murray and Christopher Hitchens would have disagreed on many things, but it would their debates would have been incredible. Hitchens’ greatest failing was his support of the Iraq war, despite his loathing for Bush and Blair. But he was absolutely right about Islamo-facism. Decades ahead of his time. After the events of October 7, I have no doubt Hitchens would have railed against Hamas in the most devastating way. Don't make the critical error of thinking this guy in zebra socks is anywhere close to being in the same league as Murray. Their opinions are NOT of equal value, which is not a criticism of zebra socks man. Murray is not only highly academically educated, he's also the rare modern journalist who puts his physical self into the circumstances upon which reports & comments. He EXPERIENCES it, doesn't just observe and judge from the outside.... and his criticisms of Western "rights" (i.e. that we're ENTITLED to life, freedom, respect, comfort, money, etc etc) are a dead on bullseye. These English voices need to form a political party to combat the issues the UK is facing. Reform, Labour and Conservatives - a bunch of mugs. The country needs a change in direction and a drastic one. The people are yearning for a new party.
