Very recently, they updated the game via a patch. Most of the fixes were problems I hadn't addressed in the video, such as the fact that the scoring system combos used to not work properly, and various crashes. But they also fixed the big issue I had with the infinite scoring from Ol' Reliable during side-quests. So, I guess take that part of the video as a bit of a time capsule of what the game was like for 2+ months before they fixed it. They also added even more side-quests with this patch! That might be cool, if they were fun to play at all. Which... they're not.

The platforming minigames would have worked better as a side feature of the game. Hopefully 505 Games learn from their mistake here and work harder to take after the way that 5th Cell was known for making Drawn to Life Games, what I say is if you're taking over a game series from a dead company but you don't know how to then either learn how to write a interesting and emotional plot with good gameplay or don't revive the game series at all.

It...It honestly hurts seeing this happen to the series. Back when I was a kid, the DS games were breath-taking to me, and I couldn't even read the dialogue text at that age. I honestly feel some nostalgic tears come out of me when I listen to the soundtrack of The Next Chapter. But having this game appear out of nowhere, after so many years of silence, only for it to be what it is? I'm heartbroken. Truly, truly heartbroken.

Atleast this game retcons the whole "These games were only a dream" explanation into "These games were visions from an alternate dimension." But that brings up another issue, it retconned a retcon. In the re-release of Drawn to Life 2, the ending was changed from a car accident to a girl's brother falling from a tree. Now they want to say that 2nd ending never happened?

Seeing that DTL was coming back was one of the highlights of quarantine in 2020. Drawn To Life was the first video game I ever played, and I made so many fond memories through both games. The story, music, characters, concept, everything about them had so much charm and wit and I considered Drawn To Life my favorite video game at one point. And then… Two Realms happened. This is the worst video game I have ever played in my entire life. Yeah that hurts to say but I don’t want to lie, there was absolutely nothing about this game that I enjoyed aside from a small moment at the end of the game, don’t wanna spoil anything though. The gameplay was absolutely frustrating to have to deal with, what made it worse was that you weren’t even encouraged to explore the two worlds. Everywhere you go, there’s that giant blue arrow telling you exactly where to go. That should have been a red flag for me. The story went literally nowhere, too. All that happened was several people got upset, the hero showed up, and the people were fine again. Even when the story tried to tie back into the first two games for the ONLY TIME IN THE GAME, that’s all that happened. Sheriff got mad, you played levels, and that’s it. It went nowhere. I could not tell you one thing that Aldark did or why he was important, he had no presence at all. And I was seriously hoping that they would do something interesting with the Book of Imagination, like how “making everything better” isn’t always the answer. But they didn’t even do that. I’m just… extremely disappointed in Two Realms. It soured my view of Drawn To Life as a whole and as much as I would love another DTL game, I don’t know if I have any faith that it will be a good, decent game anymore.

@Solesteam3 жыл бұрын
They should scrap this as uncannon and remake game, and the entire shallow empty story, maybe even bring back Wilfre as Alldarks henceperson, perhaps bring some lore about the darkness and how it ties to the adorable little shadowy menace fellow... Perhaps Wilfre made a deal with Alldark in order to get his hands on the book of creation all those years ago but the cost was being his henchman for eternity thus making him come back whenever Alldark calls for him. In conclusion it's far to different and story-less than the original games setup. I like my drawn to life games hallow not hollow.
@joshcoy67482 жыл бұрын
I agree that this game didn't seem worth it, one idea I think could have made it a bit better is if they actually made the shadows enemies that were stronger than normal enemies and made it essential to defeat all of the shadows, also it would have been a bit more interesting if the people possessed actually showed a subtle sign of darkness, also I agree there should have been a more grand design in the antagonist's plans, like controlling more people in order to become powerful enough to spread their influence in greater numbers, but thats just my thoughts.
@joshcoy67482 жыл бұрын
And a follow up to your idea, what if it was the other way around, what if alldark was wilfre's acolyte all along, spreading darkness in order to bring wilfre back and make them strong enough to no longer be bound to mike, free from the possibility of being forgotten again.

Make areas marked by a unique background where you can’t place stuff. Theme it as the darkness from DTL1. It’s that easy. This reminds me a lot of what happened with Shenmue 3. A third instalment to a beloved franchise, each with their own devoted fan base, and over a decade since the last one. Some nice graphics and references here and there, but underwhelming in their gameplay with a shallow story to boot. And then the developer admits it wasn’t intended as a full game, but instead as a pitch for a potential fourth instalment, which most likely will never come out. I think the only point of difference is that Shenmue 3 had millions thrown at it and this had a significantly smaller budget, but I’m shocked at how much they line up. Is this actually really common in the gaming industry?

No refunds. Icing on the barely recognizable cake. Safe to say that Kickstarter fiasco single-handedly destroyed funding major video games entirely. And the Shenmue franchise itself.

I have a question about the whole "cheating" aspect: Isn't the whole point of a puzzle platformer where you can place elements of the level where you want to encourage players to find their own solutions to problems? Games like Scribblenauts and Mario Odyssey use this to great effect, and they are much better games because of it. It makes the game more replayable and opens up opportunities for more varied and in-depth gameplay, as well as content even the developers couldn't anticipate. I think the problem is that Two Realms doesn't do this as well as it should. Many of the solutions seem rather shallow and it shows they didn't really put much thought into the level design and gimmicks.
@DoujinShinji3 жыл бұрын
Typically, sure. But I argue when people find it far easier and faster to come up with a solution that negates entire portions of levels, or entire mechanics, way before they would’ve figured out the intended way to go through a level, that’s not good level design. Just because you can break level design in a puzzle platformer doesn’t make them good puzzles.

"I'm holding this series hostage. If you don't buy our bad game that we put absolutely no thought or effort into, then this series will die forever and clearly means that no one is interested in it anymore. Now pay up!" Why do companies always do this? It's not even just for video games, this goes for all other mediums. Do they think they're clever? Do they purposefully want something to die and not actually get money off of something like they're supposed to? It just blows my mind every time this happens, and the worst part is that it is happening to so many things. And the few times it does work like with Monkey Ball it just isn't worth it in the end. No wonder why indie games now more than ever try to stay independent and keep getting bigger that way compared to most AAA games. I wish all corporations monopolizing on properties of older games only to ruin them and never bring them back afterwards would die in a fire. Rare and anything bought by EA are other more prominent examples of this trend. And because all of the money they send to buy them only to lose value afterwards from all of this, it still. Keeps. Happening, even to this day... They need to stop selling themselves out man. Video games can be more than just products, they can also be art, but in the end they all get thrown out in the trash with nobody else being able to use those IP's anyways. I'm so sad. :(

This is breaking my heart...Drawn To Life was my favorite childhood game, i put in HOURSSSS into both games Honestly never really saw Christian undertones until this video. So i hate that lmao But they were brilliant games, and im sad that they wasted a sequal on THIS...wish it was actually a good story and gameplay :(

Didn't expect to find a video on this game, considering how little fanfare it had with an already niche series. Such a disappointment

Now, bear with me here. I'm not a Video Game Deaigner - Though I hope to publish comics & novellas to earn money for classes in computer programming - but I could do *Gacha Club style Comics* that tell the story better!!!

I was thinking about buying this game because I loved the next chapter for the ds. But this looks bad. The old DTL games are way better.

Man, this series was great… but THIS game is my most disappointing game.
