Nobody wants to look at unattractive characters in a fantasy entertainment game I’m not paying to look at mediocre things I can see anywhere

Yup, I actually learned this from Stan Lee (RIP). He said he draws attractive characters because nobody wants to aspire to be, and see themselves, in unattractive/unhealthy/unworthy characters. I completely agree, not paying to look at nonsense.
@kallemetsahalme5701 Жыл бұрын
ah but there you are wrong. yes, stan, me and many others like to look at certain healthy, more muscular type to aspire to. but its obvious theres this certain group that aspires to be fat and "unattractive" just like homer simpsons aspired to work at home. what everyone needs to understand is that we need to draw cubicles around things and everyone can enjoy what they want. if some want to be empowered by a fatty rolling around and smashing the opponents then they are free to do so. mel has some points but the general gist of this video is no different from that girl going "i dont play games because they appeal to male fantasies". this dove campaign appeals to those people and flinging shit from side to side is not going to solve anything. reality is one game cant make all the participants happy. that why one game needs to be proud about having fit superheroes while another one has fat homemaids going on a rampage. putting them in the same game and saying now everyone is happy is shite

Not only is promoting obesity unhealthy, but even on just a logical level, action video game characters live very active lifestyles, so they won't be fat regardless. All the platforming and parkour Lara Croft does would mean there's no way she could possibly be fat all the time, unless she just consumes an absolute assload of food, more than a human stomach can physically fit. Same for whether someone's a medieval fantasy adventurer, or a modern combat soldier, or some space mercenary.

I happen to like playing characters that are sexy, fit and voluptuous because it’s a form of escapism. I’ve been called sexist for thinking this way. That “beauty is subjective.” Yes, that’s true, but so WHAT if I wanna play a hot character? It’s a f*cking video game. It’s MY fantasy-escape time. I don’t need constant reminders that “fat women exist, too!” Yes. I know. I have mirrors in my house. (Ain’t no shame) but I don’t need the media to change things around to make me feel included. It’s stupid and feels condescending. Like, “here you go, you poor unattractive girls/women of color/sexual-orientation other than, straight-here’s a character that ticks every box JUST for you! Aren’t you proud of us? Do you feel better now?” _(baby noises, jangling keys)_ 🤤 🔑 Edit: and I’m currently working out and eating healthy again. Not because I think I’ll look like Lara Croft, but because I’m doing it for ME to be healthier. I’m down 16lbs, and got about 60 more to go. Do it for YOU and your health. "Let's make virtual beauty, real." If you'd eat healthy and hit the gym, you'd resemble the virtual characters. Like I said in response to Dove's tweet, if women (and men) would spend 4-5 hours a day running, doing parkour, and training in boxing / MMA, then they'd look like the super heroes who run, jump around, and fight super villains all day. The X-Men spend time in....the gym. And the Danger Room. They train, they work out, they exercise, regularly. Spider-Man burns a ridiculous amount of calories basically being a nonstop gymnast swinging around the city for hours at a time. If you feel bad you don't look like those characters, you can make an effort to look more like those characters. The dudes and women in the WWE don't look the way they do by chance or by luck. They have to work hard to look the way they do (not counting the ones who use a little extra help). The athletes at the olympics don't have those bodies by luck or just genetics. They work hard and they're active. The characters in video games and movies are characters who work hard and are active. A woman standing 5'6" weighting 260 lbs is going to be out of breath before the fight starts.

They also _chronically_ misunderstand video game mechanics. Broadly speaking, the smaller, lighter characters are there for stealth and lightning strikes. They're faster, more nimble and can usually deliver ranged attacks, but their blows are less powerful and give less damage to opponents. The bigger, slower characters like this chick are the tanks, hefting heavier weapons with shorter range but with more devastating power behind their blows. That's the basic trade-off you make when you choose a character, power for movement. This clueless ad has this tank chick doing back-flipping gymnastics _and_ one-shotting what looks like a level boss from a hundred yards away with a power sword. Make her a wizard as well and the game practically plays its damned self. This is not a game I'm in a hurry to play.. It looks like a walk.

It's not just in video games but also in comic and tv/movies where cute/attractive/beautiful women are made ugly, case in point (very good example) Rose Tico, she's a cute girl, but the star wars movie gived her a bad haircut and put a brown potato sack over her. And the reason why "male feminist" supports this is because by lowering the beauty standard, they feel and think they have a shot at dating a girl that would be otherwise out of their league, they're basically lowering the bar/standards down to their level of ugly. These people have self-image issues, instead of working on themselves, they're trying to change reality and standards to their own levels

The thing behind all this, is because some people get jealous of others that have the motivation and drive to get it all in check. Instead of doing the same for themselves, its much easier to just piss on others who take care of themselves, than doing what's necessary to better themselves. If someone has a medical reason or some other reason to be in a certain physical condition, like you said, that's fine, Im not knocking that. Its the people who are too lazy and just prefer to knock others and try to warp things, instead of getting up and getting the job done that are the problem.
