The only attractive protag and characters in games are now only in japanese games especially Capcom, look at Leon in RE4 remake and Claire, look at Vergil in DMC5, Venom Snake and Quiet in MGSV, look at the characters in the new Street fighters, they are feminine, attractive and handsome for the men. I tried to play Rise of Tomb Raider, and Lara was flat, uninteresting, boring writing and story, gameplay was decent i guess, but i never finished that game despite of getting it free on epicgames. the only memorable american made games i can think of with handsome/attractive characters are Red Dead 2, Arthur morgan, Dutch are so handsome. American companies love to bend their knees to woke wishes that the end result really just deter their actual target audience the gamers from actually enjoying, remember and appreciate potential franchises and Ips they have.

​@@battlezordfalconi love intentionally misleading statistics for poling data 🙂, obviously instagram and other social media is having a larger effect on girls than videogames, considering undoubtedly that both men and women use social media more than they play videogames, skewed by the fact that more men play videogames in the first place ( data shows a 40/60 spilt but then you have to consider what those studies classify as videogames, and they show disproportionately that women skew towards games like match 3/ mobile games) Its no secret that women just don't play games as much as men, and definately not the games with majorly obscene designs for female characters, i wouldn't be surprised if games had some effect, but reality is far more harmful than fictional games and seeing real women online being praised by thousands if not millions for their looks is a far different scenario than playing a videogame with attractive or unrealistic characters, the social aspect is diminished heavily for one and to reiterate, they aren't real, and as a human you are able to rationalise that easily whereas real people online are real people, you can't rationalise it as fiction leaving you susceptible to body image issues if you idolise these individuals and buy into the beauty craze of it all.

The first time I noticed uggofication in games was Mass Effect: Andromeda. The male model looks like the person the character was modelled off of. The female looked like the whole ugly tree hit her. You can thank Anita Sarkeesian for this phenomenon.

My sister was playing Diablo 4 with us and she really wanted to play Druid and when she selected the character she was so let down by the look of Blizzards female Druid character, she completely changed her mind on that class all together and forced to choose another class just because of the look. The feel in general seemed to point that way when you see other characters. But after seeing the controversy (first saw it from HeelvsBabyFace from my recommended), the information about this "self insert" thing, and the general state of ESG plaguing western mainstream AAA gaming, recent cases of female leads need to be "uglified" so they aren't "objectified," I can't rule out the possibility of the controversy being warranted.

I have yet to encounter a girlfriend or woman in general that deliberately chooses unattractive characters in games. And I've been gaming since the 90's. In some games, if armour looks ugly, but has better stats, I'm not wearing it, cause then my character looks ugly :D But, to be honest, if the game is good, I probably won't care if the character is good looking or not, but it would definitely enhance the experience. Also, sometimes I just love ugly characters. Witcher 3 NPCs are not pretty most of the time, but because of it they look unique and like people I could meet in my village. So I guess, having characters representing how really people look adds to the game, but it so much nicer when my character looks good.

Don't take it for granted. New games are literally pushing limits in the body slider. For instance if you make the chest bigger, so are the shoulders in order to cut sensuality. Most new AAA games are pushing this type of boundaries on purpose. Don't give them an inch.

If I have to look at a character for a whole game, I want that character to be attractive! My Skyrim character is normally a female that I try to make as pretty as Bethesda games let me (she is currently wearing the seducers armor, which is basically lingerie lol). It's very hard to find something like that in western-made games because modern western games make nothing but ugly female characters and the Asian characters they make are hideous. Complete opposite of Japanese, Chinese or Korean game makers, because they make very attractive-looking characters with both Asian and Western looks. Melonie, the guy you first see in the trailer is an accurate representation of the voice actor that's playing that character. His name is Richard Ayoade. He's been in the series IT Crowd. Just thought you'd like to know that.

I have a brother and sister pair of characters that I've used for 30 years. They kind of represent the yin/yang of my own personality, and their names are anadromes of each other. Their backstory is always that they were separated in youth and lived very different lives. His background, if applicable, is whichever story has him growing up in the struggles of life.. on the mean streets, orphanage, nomad, etc. Her background is a life of comparable luxury, raised by a wealthy/noble family or equivalent, much more refined than her brother. Nyrram is a sword and board type, or a straightforward soldier/spec ops/etc in more modern settings. He is always a handsome man with red hair and green eyes, and a scar across his left eye, if applicable. Brave and impulsive and sometimes not very bright, he's the charge in and get shit done type. He often completely ignores the finer mechanics of a game world, making his job much more challenging than it otherwise might be. Oh, if I set this enemy on fire first it makes the fight much easier? How about I just hit them with my sword till they stop being a problem, though? His sister Marryn is tactical, capable, and intelligent, and usually a mage/summoner/sniper/etc, and generally uses the mechanics of whatever game world to fullest effect. She is always a blonde with blue eyes, and as lovely as I can make her. In Skyrim, as an example, she's the one with the bow and the magic, dealing sneak attack after sneak attack, while Nyrram is dual-wielding in-your-face action.

I'm a straight male, but I almost always play as an attractive female, if given a choice. If I'm going to be running around with a character for 20+ hours, I don't want them to be ugly. I play games to escape the real world; not to see myself. I don't mind the supporting characters being average or ugly, but the main characters, male or female, are preferred as appealing.

What i found ironic as a British man with this trailer is the "female" character is about to start a fight when someone calls them a wanker. "Wanker" is typically an insult reserved for men not women because only men can wank, women "frig"

Yea, Im definitely not buying Fable if that's what the main character is going to end up looking like. It's not even cause of some protest, though Im down for that too. I just don't want to play as that ugly ass character. The protest, or vote with your wallet thing, is just in addition to. And, I hope many people follow suit. They shit on us when we gave feedback for Saints Row and Battlefield, and look how that turned out. We got the power. More people just need to check their hype to play something for their principles.

Look, I used to play a lot of MMORPGs... almost always I played "small" race characters (gnomes, halflings, dwarves, etc). Multiple reasons, one being that a shorter character seems to move faster. But then I played "Tera", which had A) the most attractive models, male and female, of any MMO I'd played to that point and B) doesn't have miniature classes. for a long while I played male characters because... male. But then I realized that the primary point of view was from behind the character (normally I play 1st person)... and if I'm going to have to look at my character the whole game... I'm looking at a beautiful female. And replaced all my characters with female models. And I don't care what people think. I was playing for _my_ enjoyment. That's what I enjoyed.

That "ugly" dude at the beginning is an actual person. His name is Richard Ayoade. He's an actor. My favorite role of his is a Moss in the I.T. Crowd. Hilarious show. Highly recommend it.
