Doves are so under-rated, it's criminal... How can bands slip under the radar like these boys. Yeah, okay, a lot of publicity can ruin a band in the long run, the egos start clashing, the arguments over royalties and publishing start when the money starts rolling in, but I would've loved to have seen this band get a tad more success, they deserved it... Decent band, decent blokes.

They certainly deserve more recognition, but at the end of the day they got two number 1 albums, that's a fucking amazing achievement. I'm kinda glad they never went astronomical.

So many of their songs mean so much to me. Ups, downs and everywhere in betweens. Been lucky enough to see you from leisure centres to forests. Thank you boys, I so hope to see you again. If it’s not meant to be, I’ll keep listening and always be grateful.

What really amazes me is that their album called The Last Broadcast is among the 1001 albums you must hear before you die. I had not even heard about Doves or any of their songs until I read this. But the band just proves why they are mentioned in that book! That album rocks!

The Doves, hailing from Wilmslow, England, are considered one of the most influential bands in British alternative rock. Known for their melodic depth, atmospheric soundscapes, and hauntingly beautiful lyrics, they have carved a unique space in modern music. Formed by childhood friends Jimi Goodwin and twin brothers Jez and Andy Williams, Doves began their journey in the late 1990s, evolving from an earlier electronic project called Sub Sub. After a studio fire wiped out all their equipment and recordings, they transformed this setback into a fresh start, shifting their sound towards an emotional blend of rock and atmospheric elements that would define their style. One of the standout aspects of The Doves' moves is the emotional resonance they bring to each track. Their debut album, Lost Souls (2000), received widespread critical acclaim for its layered production, featuring hits like "Catch t" e Sun" and "S" a Son"." With s "aring melodies, rich guitar textures, and profound lyrical themes, Lost Souls was a testament to the band's band's vision and ability to capture melancholy and hope in equal measure. Their follow-up album, The Last Broadcast (2002), solidified their place as a leading force in British rock with anthemic tracks like "There G" es the Fear" and "P" undin"," both o" which showcased the band aband to balance raw power with intricate, almost orchestral arrangements. The Last Broadcast is often hailed as one of the greatest albums of the 2000s and brought Doves to new levels of international recognition. Jimi Goodwin, the band's bassist, is celebrated for his evocative lyrics and commanding vocal presence. His distinctive voice, paired with the Williams brothers' artificial prowess, creates a clearly recognizable yet deeply complex sound. Goodwin'Goodwin'sective lyrics, often exploring themes of memory, resilience, and the passage of time, have given listeners a personal connection to the music. Tracks like "Kingdom" of Rust" explor" the struggles and beauty of northern England, creating a sense of place that resonates with fans who feel an emotional tie to their music. The Doves' mDoves' style is often described as cinematic, blending shoegaze, post-punk, and even hints of electronic music into something unique. Their songs can shift from ethereal and dreamlike to intense and anthemic while maintaining a signature sound that feels timeless and innovative. This versatility allows their music to appeal to a wide range of listeners, from rock enthusiasts to indie and alternative music fans. Their impact on British rock music is undeniable, with countless bands citing The Doves as a significant influence. Although they took a hiatus in the 2010s, their reunion in 2019 and the release of The Universal Want (2020) was met with enthusiasm, showing that their fan base remains as devoted as ever. With their unique blend of melancholy, hope, and musical craftsmanship, The Doves have earned a legacy as one of Britain.

@Snyltetast I'm glad they're not as big as coldplay or U2. Sometimes when bands become too popular, they start to commercialize their sound, to pander to the new audience, who doesn't really understand the music. It happened with phonics and gorrilaz (first albums for both bands were best). I'm a big doves fan, but have lost them a bit with the last album. Again, I consider their first album to be their best (second was brilliant aswell). Becoming too popular could kill the inspiration.

Holy backing track Batman! I like the band but there's a lot of extra vocals/guitar coming through. Sometimes I wish they'd ditch the samples and stuff for a few songs, sort of defeats the object of being a live show if half of it is from a tape

@TheBornAnnoyed What I said isn't 'wrong', it's my opinion. I haven't yet given my opinion on coldplay or U2. All I said is that I hope doves don't become as big as them. Coincidentally I liked U2's earlier music, but think that they've been churning out crap since the mid-ninties, either to make money, or because they feel that they have to be producing something. I also think that coldplay became a bit too self indulgent after the second album.

@TheBornAnnoyed I understand that bands need to make money from their music. The point I was making about commercialism is that when the main inspiration for making music is money, the music lacks true inspiration and becomes lifeless. In my opinion, it's not REAL music. But that's just my opinion.

As a manc i love this. I reckon everyone should love this. I went school with the guitarists nephew. Shitty claim to fame. I also went school with danny welbeck + college with kasper schemiachel. Scored past schemiachel at break. Near post goal, nothing fancy. But when i saw portugal drew with denmark + ronaldo didnt score, in my eyes that means im the better player. Welbeck, schemiachel were just normal guys at school college. Nobody knew theyd make it or win owt. Just all jumpers for goalpoasts stuff but as i say i played with the nephew of doves guitarist, scored past schemichael (which clearly makes me a ballon d’or candidate in my eyes) and welbeck well, meh. Sorry danny son. Your bro wayne can suck CT’s teets xx
