I love my crossline laser level and it can be used in lot of ways on different kinds of jobs. If you only have the laser level (and maybe a plastic mount that came with it) you are somewhat limited what you can do with it. 3 accessories that you can buy later that are super helpful or critical in some cases are 1) telescoping pole to hook your laser level to so you can raise/lower it to whatever height you want. Its mostly for use when you need to put the horizontal laser line on a certain height point. 2) Receiver - This detects your laser line if you cant see it or helps you line up your laser line on target points when your trying to set your laser lines where they need to be. You can plant the receiver at a certain target point and move your laser line to that point and the receiver will beep and that lets you know your laser line is on the target point. Keeps you from having to walk back/forth checking to see if your laser is on the target point. Or the other version is your laser line is where it needs to be but your outside trying to transfer elevations on posts and you cant see it so you sweep the receiver up/down the post until it detects the laser line and you mark it with a pencil. Way more accurate than a string level and much faster to transfer elevations because the laser line shines in a 360 degree and can mark several posts without having to reposition it. Dot lasers levels can only do one post at at a time but a crossline laser is a continuous laser line that marks everything 360 degrees around the laser level. 3) high precision manual rotation stage - This is a device/tool thats used in the optics industry but you can hook a laser level up to one via screw (make sure you buy one that has screw hole that matches the screw hole size on your laser level and make sure the model can support the weight of your laser level). The laser level sits on top of the rotation stage and there are knobs on the back side that you turn and it will rotate the stage in very fine increments. One of the biggest problems people have when they get a laser level is lining the vertical lines on anything more than 12 ft away is extremely difficult. This tool takes care of that problem. I can line up my vertical lines on target points that are 40 feet away very easily. Huepar makes a mount that gives you fine spin and XYZ motion but the gears are complete crap and strip. Mine only lasted about a year and then i saw the rotation stages and bought one. They have good quality metal gears inside instead of plastic ones that backlash as you turn them. If you have all 3 of those accessories that will pretty much take care of any positioning/line up problems if you have a crossline laser level.

I really like lasers it really makes things simple, I know it's not a traditional level but a plumb bob on a windy day is a real pain, when the laser is super easy.

They would definitely come in handy when installing & hanging cabinets & or pictures.
