I believe the Brandenburg group isn't SS but rather the Brandenburgers (Sonderverband z.b.V. 800) of the Abwehr. They were a special forces unit comprised of many different language speakers and foreign members. Their true ability was really never used in the war but they are a very neat unit and that's a very neat item.

21:30 I hate to correct you, Mr. Wittmann, but Kiel is a harbor on the Baltic Sea, so it's on the "Ostsee" , not on the "Nordsee" (North Sea) 14:56 To what is in the hat: The "Deutscher Reichskriegerbund Kyffhäuser" or short "Kyffhäuserbund" still exists in some form today, here in Germany, it still is a veterans association. Here is the wiki: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyffh%C3%A4userbund Where I grew up in the 70s and 80s, in northern germany, quite in the countryside, we had a little guesthouse and many years older people came to a little convention or just drove on vacation with their club "in die Heide" (that means into the "Lüneburger Heide" or "Lüneburg Heath ", the area where we lived, great air, some monuments, quite some history around etc) these were the "Kyffhäuser" people, we liked them very much, to me, as a young kid around maybe 8 to 15 years old, they gave great tips, when I did them a favor or carried their luggage. :) Plus: They had to tell some stories, not only from the war years, no, just about everything. To me as a kid, they seemed kinda intelectual, I thought "Kyffhäuser" was some kind of educational or historic learning association of pensioned people, I only learned many years later that they were attached to veterans or were vets themselves, that explained the medals they wore, in retrospect.

Those helmets with the trench art were super cool. I bet there was enough there with the Unit and names to do a lot of research. Those are pieces you would expect to see behind a glass case in a museum somewhere. Which reminds me, I've been going to Garage and Estate sales for the past 30 years. I've seen dozens and dozens of WW1 trench art pieces over the years and never once considered buying one. Silly me. Then again, when I was 17 years old I went to a few Gun Shows in Topeka Kansas and Kansas City, this would have been around 1986 or so, they had tables full of German Daggers and the prices? $45 - $55 - $65 with some being no more than $100 - $125. I remember the prices specifically because, I wanted one but didn't have the $55 dollars to buy one. $55 in 1986 would have been, price adjusted for 2021 ... about $137.28 according to the internet. And 17 year old kids don't exactly have $140 to splurge like that haha.
