And to think farmers grow food as well as working as mechanics, builders, steel erectors and any other job you can think of. They aren’t villains, they Supper Hero’s. So why are governments determined to wreck farming? Once again a great insight into the tough world of farming. Thank you Tom👍

Working from a well lit and dry pit out of the weather to inspect, service or repair any farm machine is huge boost to productivity, plus you're going to see a lot more things that need attention that could be missed when you're lying on your back on the wet ground outside. Small repairs when caught in time can prevent serious downtime, that's important in any industry, but more so when you have crops in the field and machines waiting to be fixed

Not sure what's sweeter, the sugar beet from the last video or the new pit setup with the air-hydraulic trolley jack in this one... press B or J or BJ in the chat. Seriously though how much easier is that bailer to work on now. Practically a holiday. Nice work Tom.

Looking good. A couple of things re the jack: 1, the 'jumpiness' is most likely due to low fluid level & trapped air; 2, I would add additional side supports to the jack that are slightly above the track, so that if a rolling wheel fails, the whole jack & vehicle can only fall 10-15mm, and not fully squash you. :)

All looks very nice Tom. Especially the part where somebody who isn't me climbed into the cramped and dusty machine to grease it 😜. Jack behaved like it had air in the hydraulic system, so it probably needs bleeding. My only tip is to find out how many grease nipples there are on your machine, and then label each one with a little circle of paint and a number. Either around the nipple if there's room, or nearby with a little pointer. Paint a larger circle down on the drawbar with "T74" or however many grease nipples there are on that machine. For a tractor or similar, paint the total (the "T#" circle) next to the operator's seat. I always do them in sequence, which helps ensure you don't miss the hidden grease nipples -- if you don't grease any more until you find number 27, you make sure it always gets greased!

It's a pain to do, but I used to like to pull out that last bit of bale to check the hay dogs. The side and top ones on springs aren't that important, but it's nice to have them spot on, it's the the fixed 'crocodile teeth' ones on the floor can cause big problems if they're bent. I've had stones bend them in on the needles before, which jammed up and got destroyed by the plunger on it's next stroke (the failsafe throw-out bar just folded like a piece of wire they were jammed so tight). The other thing they can do is have teeth break off, and then the needle tips will find the occasional bit of crop to carry up to the knotter, with ensuing hiccups!
@Tomlamb9807 ай бұрын
Can you pull the bale out for me so we can check
@Jim-Scott7 ай бұрын
@Tomlamb980 I have pulled many bales out the back of them in the past! I used to run a few of the big Hesston 4900s back in the '90s, and you have to drag everything out by hand with them, there's no bale eject for the finished bale. Gel kneepads and a bale hook and you'll have that out in 5 minutes!

Interesting machine Tom and excellent video. You need to get yourself an inexpensive hydraulic press for pushing in bearings, Sealey do one. I bought one a couple of years ago greatly reduces the risk of distorting the bearing as you push it in. So why did you sell your farm in France Tom? Too much bureaucracy?

Hi Tom. Farming machinery being so expensive and requiring periodic greasing. Do you have a preference of grease / always use the same brand & type. Or anything to hand best value. Nice video the square bale machine looks proper complicated. Running new spools of string looks a job.
