Wow, amazing! I used to love the slower, less artistic-sounding gospel-like version with a less precise pronounciation, but this is wonderful all by itself! It's a beautiful song that doesn't lose its fascination so easily.

Finally a fast version! ^_^ This song always makes me want to dance. Love the Aussie accent, really adds to the charm. Has a beautiful deep rich tone. Overall, it sounds AMAZING and is the best version I've found online. I wish you had a studio recording of it that I could put on my Ipod. =D

Phillip wrote this for the King's Singers, so it's a piece that is definitely suited to smaller choirs with a bit tighter harmonics. And of course no white person (or anyone who isn't a slave, for that matter) is going to be able to muster the raw emotion of a true spiritual.

I know a choir like this is supposed to use use proper vowels but to a Texas boy, this is a gospel song and the rolled R's and tall O's just sounds off for this song. None the less it he chords were beautiful

Who is “P Lawson” who is given credit for composing this piece of music?! Ahhhh!!! I see he is the ARRANGER, not the composer. My understanding is that this is an American Slave Song. So of course the composer of this profoundly beautiful work may be unknown, because of racism.
