During 1968, the Flintshire town of Connahs Quay was visited by the broadcaster, Franklin Englemann for the weekly BBC radio programme, "Down Your Way".
In this compilation extract, veteran Connahs Quay resident & salmon fisherman, Bill Latham, tells something of the life of the river Dee net fisherman.
This fascinating piece of Connahs Quay history has survived because of the foresight of acknowledged river Dee historian, John Coppack. John, a descendant of the illustrious family of ship-owner/operators, knowing that his father would be featured during the program, took the trouble to set-up his tape recorder in front of the radio as he listened to the show.
In March 2019, John loaned his original tape to Flintshire Community Film-maker, John Butler who digitised and compiled the item for this production.
Images of Dee, net-fishermen were kindly loaned by John Coppack & river Dee waterman, Keith Marland.
