Jeep Gladiator FRAME BENDING FIX - Do it before it's too late!!

The BEST mod we could have done yet! There is info about this all over the internet, but I am glad that Kevin designed my frame gussets around real world experience! Whatcha think?!

Easy to see why the frames are bending. The shock mounts are right behind the cab. When you hit a bump hard the shocks are taking a bigger share of the load than the springs and that upper shock mount becomes a fulcrum point and with that much frame behind it, the weight in the bed is given a lot of leverage to exert force on that part of the frame.

When you are done with this build, the Gladiator emblem might be the only remaining piece of original equipment left on the Jeep! I’d really be missing the Dodge Mahal right now!

The Dodge just gets stuck too easily. I have a dodge and it is a handful off-road compared to a Jeep or Taco

Great idea adding plate to the crush zone on the frame, more like the Mojave frame now. Lots of overlay plate welded in. I hope your camper is done soon.

I was running the Mojave trail when a group of people flew by us by the penny tree, and that same Gladiator was towing that trailer with a bent frame (still hauling through the one way sections).

Truck U showed a kit from Baxter Performance for the Gladiator that prevents the engine oil drain back issue. 30 minutes after shut off all the engine oil drains back to the crankcase, even the filter is bone dry. Every start up is a dry start.

Would have been neat to add some weld to the shock mounts where they wrap over the frame, too.... I'm sure if it was "needed" them guys would have done it for you, though - Looking TUFF - Really looking forward to seeing this thing doin' it's thing!!

Where the frame bends in in front of the spare tire, right where the sway bar link connects looks super weak. Hopefully that holds up

That's a great idea to use wood pellets to make a tiny house out of. You can put insulation in the middle of it. I was thinking about doing that but, I have to buy some land first.

Letting the smoke out! Might be worth replacing that internal frame coating that got burned off with some Eastwood internal frame coating before it starts rusting.

I would probably put a cross bar into that frame and have it double under with the arches meaning under those gussets have a thick plate that is cut out for the fold up into that natural bend weld then put a tube steel beam across.

Any reason the plates weren’t longer to capture the coil spring area and belly plate? I know you mentioned the future addition of the hydro bumps but plates could easily be made to fit whatever mount they come with. Did Nichols say why the frame plates had squared off ends and not rounded ends?

Question frame stiffeners I have seen had holes in the plate so welds could be positioned within the plate area not just the outside edge. Is there a reason you wouldn’t do it in this application? Just curious?

I believe it gonna bend with all that weight so far behind the shock mount or be really flexy when wheeling it. That frame is nowhere near as beefy as a 3/4 ton truck and you're going to put a camper on it??? The platform wasn't designed for this but I wish you luck.....you may want to wheel it carefully..
