Lived in tents for extended periods when I was in the U.S Navy in Africa but we would build 2X4 & 2X6 frames inside to support the tent.

Good to see someone put the tent through its paces. One thing you can do to help the tent out in scenarios like that is to put an internal frame inside the tent, you can get "angle kits" from the Wall Tent Shop or Davis Tents and then go to home depot and pick up some some 1inch EMT conduit and cut an internal frame to size.

Wow! Sorry about your tent. I’m glad that you were able to salvage it. Maybe for a future project you can build a hanger or some sort of wooden or steel structure over the tent where the roof of the hanger take most of the impact of the weather! Wish you the best of luck! Thanks for the vid! Looking forward to the next one!

Tent in the Winter, Crocs in the snow and all your stuff left out says a lot about your ability to plan, prepare, think ahead. You can do better than this. Mother Nature always wins! Time for you to plan and prepare and act that way every single time you leave camp. A tent is a temporary thing. You really need something more permanent. That and showing some responsibility. We’ve seen you cut yourself, run out of water and have no gas, now this. Those were all lessons to be learned from. Don’t wait till it becomes something really serious. Wishing you the best and hoping you can turn this one around.

Buddy so sorry about the tent but this is an easy fix bring up some 2 by 4 put them on the inside of the tent and wherever you have like a large gap build an inner frame those poles by themselves will not hold up as you can see, next time you take off that long put a tarp over your mattress. That then it will help protect it. You might even want to take some 4 x 4‘s on the outside of the tent sink them into the ground run some two by fours and make just a roof covering with some barn steel. That’ll get you through. Bad weather. Good luck 👍🏻 Ok 👌🏼🔥🤠🔥Camping Russ out

I guess the lesson is tents, even Kodiaks are incompatible with long term use during winter weather. I think just a single day left unattended would result in the same catastrophe, let alone a month. Probably need to consider hard sided alternatives.
@TheOffroadCamper
@TheOffroadCamper Жыл бұрын
This is why I prefer natural shelters when possible. Phil, you might consider a structural Adirondack, which is a three sided hard shelter. You’ve got enough trees and rocks on the property. You could probably fashion some thing with all natural materials, and then perhaps put a tent or awning off the front side of it, sorry everything fell in and got wet that’s a real bummer.

Oh man, that is terrible. Sorry that happened. My gf and I were keeping a budget overland rig (first gen honda crv) on our off grid land in AZ. We left it over the winter and came to check on it and it got completely taken over by mice. I was so upset, but got it cleaned up and took it home. Nothing compared to what happened to you! Excited to see what you do at the property. Get some hard walls/roof soon!

My guess is that Kodiak canvas probably sells a patch and repair kit, but in the meantime, depending on how far of a backlog you have on your editing, if you haven’t got to it already, you can use foil heat tape to patch the tent stuff sticks, really good and it’s waterproof

I never trust a tent in the wild unattended. Building a 10x10 shed is the best start on a property. Then build everything solid from day one with metal roofing. Using tents is great while your on site but I use quick pop ups so I can take them down when I leave.

Get a real US made Springbar tent that doesn't rely on ropes staked in to hold it up and you won't have these issues. Also use 12 plus inch screws with a impact driver, they don't tend to pull out... Mine's going on 20 years and has only minor repairs over the years, withstood 70 plus mph winds in the Badlands...

Okay, Bad news. Your tent is more than likely done, You will probably have to replace it. Your bed, I would throw it and buy another one. You can get some bad bad infections from sleeping on a weathered mattress. Information, If you're going to leave your tent for more than a week. You need to set the tent up. Reinforce the top and sides with wood on the inside. Make a semi-permanent shelter. If you watch the guys in Canada who leave their tents in place. They do that. So you don't come back to a soaking mess. I'm in southern AZ if you need help I can try to get up and help you. I'll give you an email. Good luck.

@burd, We operate a small organic teaching farm near the outskirts of Eugene, Oregon. The acreage is usually surrounded by goofballs in warehouse-pallet hovels covered with blue plastic tarps... ... but the feds decided they were bad for the 'delicate wet-lands'. All good now. . Back in those days, most of the goofballs were addicts. However, one gentleman impressed me with his enclosed carport. Inside, he had a backyard BBQ, a propane and wood fire pit, plus a tent for sleeping. He also dragged in a recliner.

most places allow you a real building up to 200 sqft with no permits. You would be way ahead with a basically year round no hassle off grid cabin for not much more than the tent set up. Don't waste much time on these tents or yurts, they almost always suck long term or when you have to leave, small shed cabins are much better.
