It was the economical choice lol ... seriously, that part if you asked a shop to quote all that work, the engineering time, the machine time, the material ... that was 1000’s of dollars in work to make that one end tank... even if you happen to own a CNC mill, the raw material cost alone was probably 800-1000.

@@chicagovasko there aren't any to buy up that's why they're 1 of 1. Rotiform may very well not make another set for a different customer even if requested. If someone drops the money to buy custom designed 1 of 1 rims that'd be bad practice to turn around and start cranking out copies.

I thought the angular design of the end tank was just the rough in the computer. The finished product looks amazing. CNC technology is allowing us to be more creative every day. I'm excited to see all the progress on this project.

@@DariusBuildz Those manual functions are processes you go through regardless of how old your CNC is. its programming the route. The blue block with the yellow lines is the route for the mandrel. So when he asks about needing to do this because its an old machine he is incorect. It has nothing to do with how old the machine is or if the software crashes. Its litteraly just like google maps planning a route but for a mandrel bit instead of your car on a map. Which is why Dematrie said its like any other cnc machine.

First off let me voice my massive disappointment for you guys not filming Mr. Coxs' work on the car! On the other hand this is possibly the best thing I have watched from Hoonigan ever. Seeing these titans of the automotive performance world step in to help is amazing. Like you casually had BBi custom mill billet end tanks for the intercooler. To the common man that is not even in the realm of possibility. So cool to watch Dan and Jose build a legit car!

@@mike93lx I was looking at that because I used to work a public front portion of this race shop and you would have mustangs camaros vettes and then there would be some random minivan that is there on insurance (because we always gave really big numbers on insurance jobs) now I work the nonpublic front and handle the street cars so no more minivans

Honestly it's a bit disappointing because in all videos it's "we had xxx do this and that" and there is no footage of these actions whatsoever, I feel like season one was a bit more detailed. Still can't wait to see the first passes with the car edit : I reacted harshly at the beginning but really like the part where you go from cardboard measurement to machining, that was cool !

I used to preform work very similar to this at a very advanced machine shop near Snow Show Pa years ago but we played with high end stainless steels for corning glass. Not waste high end aluminum for intercooler tank ends. Thats just crazy!

just wanted to put in my two cents and say I'm really digging this new format that you guys have going, it's very reminiscent of automotive shows of the mid-2000s - all of the fabricated drama and BSdefinitely keep it up for this portion of knuckle busters and possibly future ones as well, don't get me wrong the off the cusp Homebrew style video that you guys have been doing forever is good too but since you like to venture off all these different shows it's cool to have different production values as well

Air is cooler than water when you have a limitless supply of it rushing through the nose at 200mph. Air is lighter than water, because it doesn't need any plumbing, storage, or pumps on board - it's literally everywhere. Air doesn't leak on the track in the event of a parts failure or accident.

@@RyanMcIntyre drag cars often use water to air intercooler due to the compact size. Also having a tank in the truck that holds the water is great because you can add ice before passes to really bring down the temps.

As a cnc engineer I’ve seen some crazy events happen around these machines with swarf debris or tool breakage, eye protection should of been mandatory in my opinion... Besides that though the episode was awesome! 👌👌👌
