I blame hills for the reason why my legs are now strong. God going up hills is a literal pain in the ass. Going down long hills can be fun, but scary cuz you need to look out for people getting in the way. How I'm doing? Couldn't skate for a bit cuz I lost my skate tool and I think I rusted a bearing so the wheel won't budge. I'm moving back to my University soon and I am hyped. 2 of my friends all of a sudden messaged me saying that they want to learn how to skate and join me. This have been happening more often, someone I know seeing skate for the past years and wanting to join me. I look forward to going back because the land is very flat which makes and overall smooth ride

Am pretty new to skating, recevied new bearings and wheels yesterday so I rode with the new ones for the first time. I think the original bearings (from MF500's) had taken a bit too much of a beating with no maintenance; I've been riding a bit occasionally since february and more intensely lately. Mainly working on posture and trying to glide on the middle edge/with feet pointing forward. Also trying to get used to drag stops with my weaker foot, and hopefully some lunge turns & powerstops soon for more confident stops… I'm mainly in skating for use as a means of transport & a bit for exercise, so I've been mostly skating longer circuits around the area; sadly not as nice asphalt as in Paris, but dealing with hills & rough asphalt makes for interesting challenges as well

I'm wondering about putting slide pucks on the sides of skates to do drag stops without killing wheels. I've learnt how to manual on my front wheels and do a duckwalk/inverse manual on 1 front and back wheel, still drilling my slide stops (i rarely slide lots of friction just kinda stops me usually) and going backwards. I am drilling transitions and just skating backwards, it's harder than it looks
@dawsdep4 жыл бұрын
That sounds quite interesting! Unless i'm misunderstanding, from my experience with slide pucks they won't give you enough friction to use for stopping

@@dawsdep Maybe a specifically designed material then? Wearing through 1-2 pucks is much more resourceful than all your wheels. 86a wheels get destroyed way faster than 88a when drag stopping, i usually resort to turns and just letting my speed go away instead

Hey Tiago! I'm currently trying to learn how to power stop/power slide. It's pretty difficult especially with the skates I have. I'm also practicing jumps and trying to get more comfortable with jumping. Jumping over curbs, obstacles ect. Doing tricks are hard with the skates I have. Currently I have my first pair of inline skates and they're just a pair of Schwinn recreational skates, I've definitely grown out of them skill wise, and I'm SOOOO excited to get my next new pair. I'm currently saving up money to buy the FR FRX 80 inline skates. Very excited!! Do you have any tips for someone who's learning how to power slide, or learning how to get comfortable with jumps?
@CrimsonStrider4 жыл бұрын
The powerslide becomes much easier when you can very comfortably do a mohawk transition or side skate. One of my initial issues was not feeling comfortable getting my foot to turn around. Then practicing doing a wide lunge with the other leg. A wide lunge loses grip a little more easily. One mistake is a weak lunge which causes you to spin and fall backwards. Otherwise Tiago already has a good video on powerslides. I don't recommend learning a power stop for a while. It's not as safe as a power slide. When you can comfortably power slide at higher speeds is when you might wanna start practicing power stops. wear a helmet and hip pads. It's easy to accidentally spin backwards. I've had 2 concussions that way. And generally when I fall I land on my hips. A good skill to learn, that I don't see other tutorials mention, is your shoulder and hip position. City Blades has a tutorial on 3 turns. They explain how checking a one's hips work. Being consciously aware of that skill has helped my powerstop become safe and more consistent. Bill Stoppard has good stuff on the PS. I'll add that learning to straighten your legs slightly to release, and knowing how to check your hips helps you immensely. Jumps, Shaun's at shop task has a video. Try to land on the the middle of your foot, don't tip forward or backwards. Practice. You'll get the feel of it with practice
@AddieBee96314 жыл бұрын
@@CrimsonStrider this was VERY helpful thank you. I always wear padding, helmet, knee pads, elbow pads and wrsit guards, but I'll look into hip padding. I'll also make sure to watch those videos. I think I'll start with a mohawk turn though.

I’m just trying to actually GO skating rn. It’s way too hot to do it in the day here, so we have maybe a 1 hour window before dark where it’s actually cool enough to.

Got back to skating recently (yes also thanks to Tiago) Got some USD Aeon's and some Powerslide Zoom 80's (Rockered them with 76mm front and back wheel) Been enjoying both pairs.. rockered takes some getting used to.. muscles get tired way faster. Thing us.. both skated kinde hurt my feet after a while.. mostly outside/middle part of my feet.. (wide/flat footed) Anybody got any tips for that? The size of the skates is good.. 1 size up would be too big Trickwise.. I wanna get into slaloming.. wanna learn 'The crazy'

Could you also do a video to teach users to purchase the right sizing to skate better. Thank you.
