The drive down Pike's Peak is just as incredible as the drive up it! Starting at 14,115 feet, it's all downhill to get back to Colorado Springs. This video takes you around every twist and turn, as the highway loses elevation.

I did for my 27th birthday.... i was so terrified i stayed in the oncoming traffic lane for last 3 miles or so to the top... i swear i could have ripped that steering wheel off as scared as i was. Good experience and natural high. Dont know if i have the balls to do again. If i knew what was in store i probably wouldnt have went in the first place tbh😳

Made this drive 40 years ago with two young children in the car. Very nerve racking plus the road was not as good as it is today. Could never do it again!

It's been years since I have been to the top of Pikes Peak. So long that I have made several trips when it was still unpaved. I really don't know what to think of paving it all the way up. It kind of takes some of the mystique away from the drive. Why did they pave it? I remember as a kid on the way up on the hair pins or switchbacks, and meeting huge dump trucks on the way down that worked on maintaining the road. It definitely added to the thrill of the drive as there wasn't much room. they didn't slow much. I'm kind of torn for keeping it the way it used to be and the new pavement. Guess it really doesn't matter what I think, it's paved right? Kind of sad in a way.

No mandatory checks, and my brakes were okay. I kept it in low gear through the steepest parts.
