This downhill truck clinic is brought to you by www.motionboardshop. com. We've highlighted some general features of DH longboard trucks and the differences between brands. We show you how to flip your hangers to change the degree of the trucks and improve stability or turning. Also, we dive into precision trucks like Bear Smokies, to show you how they're made and what you're really paying for.
Make sure you check out our other clinics on longboard wheels, carving trucks, downhill longboard decks and more. If you have more questions and you want to talk to an expert, call us today! 206.779.3272

The 50degree Randal 180mms or the Paris 180s would both work really well. Upgrading to some venom bushings (depending on your weight, but a soft one like the 85a Standard or SuperCarve) would make a big difference as well. Venoms work particularly well with the Paris Trucks because of their deep bushing seat (like we mention in the video). The randals are great though because you can flip the hangers to change the degree so your board will ride lower to the ground and be more stable.

50* paris in the front and a 42* prandal (paris hanger on a randal baseplate) in the back with barrel bushings top and bottom. I find that this is a great setup for carving and downhill (tons of rebound and stability.)

the evo is a good board, it is a fairly easy board to setup because of the wedging. The reccomendation that we give for the evo is Bear 52 trucks and lime big zigz

i would say that if you feel more comfortable on smokies they are worth the price because you gain confidence, i ride smokies and i will tell you that in corners they feel great because they are so precise, but with the same notion they are 290 so they definately should feel great in corners. i would say that if you are serious about downhill then it should be a very realistic decision that precision trucks are in your future.

@threecheerer the newest version of the 852's come with green pumpkin barrels which I think are right around 85a. If you want to upgrade bushings to eliminators, I would think some 80a eliminators would do you nicely. the 852's bushing seats really engage the bushings to their full potential, so softer durometers are generally recommended.

For a dervishw e reccomend a randal 180 on a 50* plate or paris 180's, depending on the genre of riding you will be doing.

technical sliding or freestyle? For tech sliding I like to use an independent 169, for freestyle and high angled reverse-kingpin truck will suffice. I personally like randal 50's or bear 852's (especially the new ones, with the gnarly bushing seats). Paris' are also a great choice.

we do sponsor a few people, that ride around here locally, hottsauce 808 when you flip a crail truck nothing happens to the ride height, cuz 467 the side that is more stable is when you have the flat portion, (the non sunken in side) roadside, go to 3:50 in the video and look at the bear truck, the one with the orange bushings, that is not flipped ans therefore more turny.

@STFootballTrick great cruising trucks: paris 180's, Randal RII's with 50* plates, Bear 852's. Indy 215's are pretty rad too, if you have a deck that can rock them without getting wheel bite.
@MotionBoardshop
@MotionBoardshop 15 жыл бұрын
The randals actually will work, just just have to sand down that little part of the drop through that's in the way. The Paris will definitely work as will Bears.
@MotionBoardshop

@Powerrider77 The responsiveness and turning is very dependent on the bushings. I'd recommend any of the trucks mentioned in the video with exception to crails, which tend to be much more restrictive.

If you feel comfortable on them at speed then no one can tell you no. Paris' are generally not considered DH trucks because they have a high angled baseplate (50*) and shorten the wheel base a bit. Check out the video "downhill longboard deck clinic" for suggestions on a new deck.

Yea ofcourse they would be man :) You can slide on any pair of trucks, though carving into your slides does help when learning so keep your bears un-flipped and you'll have a great time; also I learnt to slide on Bear 852's so i am speaking from experience.

@hellsambassador666 obviously they don't physically change the angle of the pivot but EFFECTIVELY they do. Flipping a 42* randal is like switching from a 45* to a 39* baseplate with a non-raked hanger.

What would be better for the demonseed the bear 852's flipped or some crail dh trucks. If you put the right bushing on the crails then could you still be stable and turn a bit? And would you get rail bite with them?

@kirdro Definitely 10mm bears. The larger axles give you more strength to prevent bending. Larger wheels give you more leverage over the weakest part of and may cause it to bend.

@MotionBoardshop
@MotionBoardshop 15 жыл бұрын
I find 39 degrees to be too low of an angle for carving. For carving hard you generally want a truck that is greater than 45*. I assume you are talking about your 42* randals than? Try switching out your bushings. Bushings make a huge difference on how a truck responds.

@pkdukesnides1 yes sir, i hit about 35-40 today, good idea to have some 90a barrel at least on board side or something tho (at least 90a barrel works well for me and my 165lb friend). I hit 35-40 with 80a conical roadside and 86a barrel board side, not exactly a downhill setup, but it works fine up to 35-40. I got 1 wobble today from about 35, but that's mainly my fault for coming backup too fast after a toe side hand down turn = too much weight into my backfoot = wooble = road rash..

For every one who has been asking about which trucks to get for down hill so they don't have to worry about speed wobbles this is My answer, you are all ways at risk of speed wobbles, no matter what, but if you practice your speed tuck you need not worry as much, but if you guys are really all for huge hill bombing, you should buy a truck with a lower angle, which means it will be harder to turn but you will be less likely to get speed wobbles.

randall DH's come stock with a 35* plate. If you want a 60* plate you have to buy the Comp II 60*, which would be a ridiculous setup, especially with the 160mm of the DH hanger. I wouldn't call it a randal dh anymore.

@MountainTopBoards "flipping you paris hanger is not very good. sure it is lower, but it really isnt good for the truck. it has an offset bushing seat, so when flipped it has a larger space between the plate and the seat. in order to aline it, you have to shim the bushing, or just crank the pivot into the wrong spot. it really isnt designed to flip. you can do it, but it isnt good for it. i wouldnt." quoted
