Not sure she wanted to get away from Downton. She would have loved nothing more dearly than to stay at "home" had her family accepted Tom - which they ultimately finally did. Too bad it couldn't have been done during Sybil's life time. At any rate, the actress wanted to leave Downton, thus, Sybil had to die. But her character was such a sweet darling.

Oh, Theo James - how I fell in like with his character Sidney in Sanditon and what an unpleasant creature he is in Downton Abbey. This kind of goes hand in hand with a comment I saw from one of the other posters where the actress played Vera (Bates' wife) and what a vindictive vicious vixen she was in the character as Vera vs when she played the utterly wronged Catherine of Aragon in Henry. That's where you know you have a good actress/actor. One who can play such opposite extremes.

Cora asked O'Brien for her advice about hiring a lady's maid but she was very vague, providing no explanation whom the maid is needed for and O'Brien assumed that it will be to replace her. In her upset, angry that all her loyalty to Cora means apparently nothing, she decided to take her revenge. So then, when Cora accidentally dropped her soap, Sarah left the broken part of that soap by the bath, hoping that (at the time pregnant) Cora would slip on it and fall. . Spoilers! . . . . . . And that's exactly what happened, resulting in Cora losing her pregnancy. Only later, O'Brien finds out that the lady's maid was actually for the Dowager and Cora was only helping in that search....

They wanted this so they could, gain, Russell Brand's, favor, in his, grief, and then, get him, to, WED, them, all, and, then they could be, in the, Upper Classes.
