I don’t say most, but there were plenty who knew everyone. This was also impressed on them (by their father) while growing up on that estate; they would be responsible for the welfare of every tenant. The latters’ lives depended on the owners supporting their village. I used to think (probably 3 decades ago) why are they so lazy, and can’t these aristocrats dress themselves till I learned in books they were responsible for the employment in the village.

Actually, I think he was literally tugging his forelock. That phrase is used metaphorically nowadays, but comes from a traditional gesture of respect to the upper classes. It involves pulling down the front part of your hair or cap. And that is exactly what he did in that scene.

I feel like they shouldn't be pushed together as a couple. They have a wonderful relationship as friends and that's how it should be. It's not necessary that every man and woman friendship has to turn into a relationship.

@@ashmitkumar3429 that’s exactly my point. I don’t mean that they need to marry or even venture into romance…. But they have a lovely relationship. I’d just like to see it a bit more on the next movie. I like their dynamic and chemistry. I just like the characters and feel like they both deserve someone who they can comfortably be their selves and feel safe with. If that makes sense.

I think in the entire cast of characters, Molesley is easily one of the most endearing and loving of characters. Honestly, can we ever see any time where he had even a bad thing to say about anyone, or was in any way scheming? Also he's by far one of the more entertaining characters when he has few drinks, and usually has the best intentions. He's one of my favorites and is always a pleasure to see him on screen.

I love mr bates in stuff like this. It's his own plot lines that are terrible though. Anna same thing. She is amazing with other characters and helping other people, but her own plot lines are just depressing without respite. Anna and John storie bits are the ones I skip every rewatch now. I really wish the writers had done more with them that isnt depressing drama. Like not even fun to watch drama, just depressing. But when Bates uses his skills for good he is so much fun. Showing off his clever side. He should have been able to show it off more. Anna also looks better happy then sad. And should have more meaningfull relations outside of bates and Mary. At least in the beginning she seemed close to Gwen as well. She really needed more on screen friends.
