These towers have been sitting ABANDONED for YEARS!!! Just think… all the homeless out on our streets that could be housed there, violent crimes and who knows what else happens in those towers, foreign countries/corporations buying up huge amounts of land in major cities (meanwhile we have a housing crisis), etc etc … yet everyone is appalled by the different layers of colors being applied on the outside surface of the building. Government officials need to do better and us, the public, need to look into the deeper issues here and hold said officials accountable. We should be thanking these graffiti artists for shedding light the actual problem here, via a non-violent and creative outlet.

You make a good point about Banksy’s work being very valuable. Many people would be happy to have him paint on their home and resell it. This is very rare case that wouldn’t upset the owner of property painted on without permission. Defacing peoples property even if done under the guise of political activism is wrong and expensive. An article from 2019 graffiti statics United States, states that annual budget for removal of this stuff is 12 billion in the US alone. Money that could be used for positive purposes.

Because it's owned by a private Chinese developer. The city of LA doesn't get to just decide "this random building will now be a homeless shelter". They would have to purchase the building from that private owner. And I doubt they would have enough tax payer money to purchase, complete the build, furnish the building, and hire staff to run it. It's unfortunate but I do agree with you that it being a homeless shelter would be better than it sitting abandoned and serving no purpose. Sadly that's not how things work.

Graffiti in this form is the most prolific art movement on planet earth. Embrace it. It’s been going on for at least 50 years with spray cans, arguably centuries before that depending on how you examine and discuss it. Graffiti is fascinating. Clearly the people enjoy it. And it will never stop.
